Keep trying. Home delivery failed for my for about 8 hours of on and off attempts, and then all of a sudden I got through once. Just received my order confirmation email.
 
ok...so did anyone stay on the page where it says "unable to complete setup", go to the cart, click say "change data plan" and then just tried to resubmit it? you don't have to go through the whole process but i've gotten the same error like 40 times so far. awesome.

Used the iphone app....
tried to preorder.

it failed after i entered my zip/phone number/last 4. (unable to connect to server)
It asked if I wanted to make a reservation to the apple store for help ordering/setting up. So I did.

Got a confirmation email.... (see below). Note that the part where it mentions iPhone rate plan is not included, nor does it discuss price of phone. But it DOES say that I have a reservation.

Is this a computer glitch? Is it a valid reservation despite no price or rate plan?
Anyone else have this?

I've been trying since 1:15am and FINALLY got it through just now!!!!!! My day is complete.
 
I did home delivery just now, and got as far as placing order and then I get this:

An error has occurred during your session. Please return to the Store Menu to continue shopping.
 
Yeah I've been trying since 7:30am CST and I finally got through on the Apple website at about 6pm CST. I have NOT gotten a confirmation email yet, although I did print the confirmation number and all that stuff from my "thank you" page after my order was complete.

Keep trying. I just kept trying Apple.com and it finally went though.

EDIT: I finally got my confirmation email confirming a June 24th date 3 hours later than my order. I finally feel satisfied!!!
 
You should be good to go as long as you rx'd the email.

I was able to reserve one using the same method and received the same email. I didn't want to go to the store so I kept trying to preorder and it finally went through.
 
I would keep trying. I was able to save my first line to my account between 3 and 4 PM. The second line took a good part of this evening to get in the cart. Many times it would get the eligibility but would error out later in the process. I checked out around 9:10 PM EDT (two separate orders).

A majority of the east coast is going to go to bed here soon, so the load on the servers might die down a little bit and might make things easier.

AT&T (and Apple) have 10 days to make sure they scale up the activation infrastructure or implement some type of batch/queuing system. It won't be cheap, but it will be worth not annoying thousands of customers.

Will Apple be able to confirm a reservation if you call?

I would hate to leave work, go to the Apple store, deal with a line, and find out they tell me that my reservation is not valid.

Although, if they did, I would go ballistic since I got an email from them....

I also think that AT&T should waive the $18 fee that they are charging for us to upgrade our phones. Why the charge?
 
is it worth it to keep trying if I get this error msg consistently right after choosing a data plan?

i had almost given up. then i got it. keep it up. get 2 tabs and bounce between them. let one screw up then start the other, then reset the other. just have one ready when the other dies off

At first it was at&t. Apple.com was not getting a proper response from there servers regarding my upgrade status, and it was obvious. After 12 hours though, it finally did and it let me add it to my cart.

NOW ITS APPLE. I can't get through paying for the preorder now... My fear is each time I try its authorizing my card and eventually either (1) my credit limit will be reached or (2) my apple.com cart will time out and I'll have to start over again...

Hmm, after about 15 tries to go from cart to finished checkout, I got to a "thank you" titled page with that "oops" error message on it. It's gone from my cart now, but I have no idea if I actually completed the order. The order status page isn't working, and I haven't received an email. What a CF pre-order day for Apple and AT&T.

If at first you don't succeed, post about it on the forums! It just went through, finally! Geez, I should have started posting about this hours ago!
