Absolutely positively not. I own the Sapphire Glass Stainless with the black band in 42mm. Owned it for a week now. It looks cheap, feels cheap and fails to accurately update DJIA quotes and Weather temperature changes. Also, the watch faces are ATROCIOUS. My watch is getting returned tomorrow. Apple has released an over priced over hyped failure of a watch. I am thoroughly disappointed in Apple. My 2012 $299 Galaxy Gear was more functional, more reliable, and felt better on my wrist than this $600 2015 Apple Watch.

Is Samsung hiring more anti-Apple posters? How much are they paying per post? Would love to get in on this gig. Looks like fun.

Is a tiny 1200 sq ft house in SF work 2.2million? ABSOLUTELY NOT.

Is a 2003 Honda Civic worth $6000? ABSOLUTELY NOT.

Fun fact: It costs Apple roughly $84 in materials to build an AWSport.

A good business will charge what the market demands for a product. The current market will pay $600 for a nicer looking SS watch. Whether or not you choose to take part in the market, OP, is on you.

This is the kind of comment that is very annoying and makes me feel sad for the person who says it. You speak from your point of view and decide our reasoning and decisions are irrelevant and wrong.

For me, the watch is very relevant and worth the money. For you it isn't.

BTW, I'll bet if I go into your home, I will find numerous items that you have spent money on that I wouldn't want for free. As you said, a fool and his money are easily parted. Have a nice day and continue to spend your money on foolish and overhyped things.

Either you got the wrong end of the stick, or I'm missing your point.

The OP was saying the watch is over hyped and over priced. I agree, but wasn't foolish enough to buy it like he was and then come on here and moan about it. I could see from the various ads and reviews it's not a product I'd have any use for, so kept the cash in my wallet.

My point is I don't spend my money on over hyped things because I purchase with care and forethought, unlike the OP it seems.

I have a 38mm SS with classic black leather and a 42mm Sport with the blue sport band. I picked up the blue one to see if I like the size better than the 38mm.

As an accessory alone, the stainless steel and leather band make it look like a more luxury product. The Sport one I have looks like a toy in comparison.

As for the OS and features, I wanted a glorified notification device and it does that super well. I actually really like Siri on the watch too.

Fun fact: It costs Apple roughly $84 in materials to build an AWSport.

Fun fact: That $84 estimate is based on comparable items in the marketplace, and does not take into account R&D, custom engineering and manufacturing, etc. The $84 figure is useless for determining the profit margin of the watch.

That's a valid point.

As far as tech go, I'm personally more amazed by the Citizen Eco-drive charging tech than I am anything on the Apple Watch. It is actually revolutionary.

http://www.citizenwatch.com/en-us/eco-drive-technologies/eco-drive-how-it-works/

Funny I just sent my citizen back to citizen as apparently they don't give jewelers the ability to change the battery when it starts to fail to hold a charge. I paid around $600 and all mine does is Stop watch, time, date and alarm. The Apple Watch SPort does much more.

No kidding Dr. New Product Developer.

The operative words in my post were "roughly" and "in materials."

Of course there are a billion other costs associated with the development of the Watch. I suppose my point was not relayed - the market will pay $999 for a link SS watch, because the watch looks good with an SS link. I doubt that link costs 449/unit...even when you add in development costs.

Fun fact- no one knows how much it costs. Also how can you name a chip by its manufactured cost, not raw materials (1 cent) and not do the same for the case (quoted by material cost).

And manufacturing labor.

And shipping costs.

Capital amortization factored in? No? Why not?

And, of course, R/D. Lets be honest, it's not $84 and noone knows what it really is.

I also wasn't too keen on the SS models due to the past history of iPod backs. Those things scratched when you looked at it too hard. :p

yeah... because all stainless steels are created equal and Apple used a hardened 316L steel for the iPods. sure.

My take is that the finish of the Sport says not worth $350-$400. But that the look of the SS certainly feels like it is more in line with the $550-$600 pricing, though at the same time I am a metal band wearer and $950-$1,100 is too much for the Link combos. I also think that the entry SS should have included a Classic Buckle at that price. But no matter how you slice it the Sport and SS are too pricey for tech because of the obsolescence factor.

It's cheaper than most phones and even as gen 1 product will be useful for likely 3-4 years. A lot of folks have rationalized their decision to not buy by banking on some incredible change in tech in a year which is unlikely, probably more of a two year cycle. Considering the guts are essentially an iPhone 4S it seems sufficient for a three year span, it's priced about right.

By and large I do not understand these threads.

How can anyone be "surprised" by Apple Watch (good surprise or bad)?

I'm "comfortable" with tech, but not a geek. At times I wish I was. Regardless before plunking down $450 (42mm SG Sport + Apple Care+) I had read dozens of articles. Watched ever Apple video on the Watch I could find. Read every person I could find that had actually touched one.

I then compared with other options (running GPS watches, advanced fitness trackers, Pebble, even learned a bit about the Sony Smartwatch even though I'd likely not give up iPhone to get it).

I read about the "fashion statement", the sizing (printing the life size images and tapped them to my watch).

And when I got the watch is was within +/- 5% of EXACTLY what I thought I'd get. Do I think it perfect? No! Do I think it worthless? No! (I'm keeping).

I would imagine the vast majority of who bought did exactly what I did. IMO if you are not happy or shocked by the Watch it is your own fault. There were pretty much no secrets about the watch.

And did you see Nilay Patel's Verge video review? His was already scratched up and he had it for a week. Point Proven... they didn't solve it.

Don't live in denial SS scratches it's a fact and yes you can polish it out. But I don't want a device I need to polish scratches out of every few months.

Also I LOOOOOOVE how people on this site find the need to cherry pick sentences out of paragraphs to harp on.:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Why are we responding to this troll?

That's not a word I use lightly, but look at his other posts. It's the typical mis-informed pot shots from an insecure Apple basher. He doesn't miss a chance to jump into any thread here and crap all over it.

If you respond, you are giving him the attention he so desperately needs. Just ignore him. Eventually, he'll go away.

I'm sure there's a good profit margin on all the watches, otherwise Apple wouldn't sell them. I've just seen the $84 number thrown around a lot when it's really a meaningless value when determining profit.

odd... my 38mm SS BSB doesn't have those massive scratches on it. Even after wearing for 2 weeks now and not doing anything special.

Sure - if you hit your watch hard into something ... you will get those massive scratches. But good luck doing that to your aluminum watch.

Fact: 316L is used among all major watchmakers and I have yet to hear about "scratch-gate" from Tissot/Omega/IWC owners ...

and no - "micro-scratches" only visible under a magnifying glass in blinding bright light don't count

I haven't been wearing watches because of having a large wrist. But became interested in the Apple watch. I ordered on the 10th the 38mm with Milanese loop band. The next day, I ordered the 42mm with black leather loop. I have been wearing the 38mm and love it. People have told me it looks nicer than they imagined it would. I have loved all the features. I really like the notifications showing up on the watch so I don't have to pull my phone out. I have even taken a call on it when I couldn't get to my phone. Sorry it didn't work for the OP. My 42mm isn't supposed to ship til sometime in June. My sister wants the 38mm if I like the 42mm better.

You could always have it gold plated ;)
