Had a problem with my mouse , then realised I had my Sony tv remote next to it , moved it and it went away

Bluetooth really is a nightmare ?‍♂️

I have a mac Mini M1 and monterey 12.4 i am experiencing mouse lag when it is 4K and wifi is active (no lag for wifi because router is in 1 meter radius). So either it is HDMI cable or wifi interfering with apple bluetooth mouse.
I havent changed the cable yet , in my case when i turn off wifi and use ethernet issue is solved.

I also experience scrolling lag in web pages when wifi is on.

Do you turn off wifi completely in settings or just disconnect from a wifi network?

(It matters because location services don't work when wifi is turned off completely.)

Actually my case was turning off wifi completely, good point you have in terms of pointing out the source of the problem, if it is wifi as a device or wifi as a connection interfering.

Now i am using it Wifi connected. When a lag occurs i will try either ways (wifi on but not connected vs wifi completely off). And keep you updated.

I have Bluetooth Wacom, trackpad Magic Mouse. Ditched Magic Mouse because Bluetooth issues.
Was already using cabled keyboard from my 2006 Mini and use now also the cabled mouse.
Wacom and trackpad seem to work fine, but I keep them also cable-connect.
A little messy desk, but it simply works!

Hi all ! Since I got my M1 Mac mini, I've had bluetooth issues : Laggy/stuttering trackpad.
If it can help, I've solved the problem by doing this :
> Uncheck "prevent automatic sleep" in system settings (sorry, in French in the screenshot...)
> Never use Cmd+Alt+Eject that make the Mac mini in sleep mode (I just turn off the screen)

This way, I almost never had bluetooth issue. Sometimes bluetooth becomes very laggy (don't know why), then I do in terminal
Bash:
sudo pkill bluetoothd
I do it approximatively one time a month because somtimes every bluetooth devices (keyboard, trackpad, headphones) are going crazy (i.e. Very very strong lag)

I'm pretty sure that bluetooth issue is software and not hardware

not solved. bluetooth audio from airpods 3 & airpods max ALWAYS cuts out consistently. Mac Mini is placed on stand vertically with plastic bottom facing me. No USB A ports used. No interference. it's a design flaw

Or maybe your Mac has a hardware problem. Did you try go to an apple store to diagnose it and/or replace it ?

nope, had the same issues with the Intel Mac mini & the m1. have seen a a lot of threads online with similar issues. the main difference with the m1 is that the keyboard & mouse lag issues are fixed. the Intel Mac mini had issues with those mainly. the m1 doesn't have any input lag, just audio cuts from wireless headphones. it's just accepted as a design flaw of this current chassis. the Mac studio reportedly doesn't have these issues. so until the Mac mini is redesigned I don't believe it will be fixed.
some ppl report no issues so it may be luck or a combination of certain peripherals they use.

No issues at all on my M1 mini with Logitech MX anywhere 3, K780, M590, older (replaceable battery) and newer Apple Bluetooth Keyboard, Magic trackpad and Sony PS4 Bluetooth game controller. Very reliable, even concurrently and across reboots and device switching with the Logitech devices.

That said, my Mini stands on my desk and I haven’t much used any BT devices with sustained high data rates (e.g. audio).

I have two networks one 5ghz only and one mixed 2.4/5 , no problems on the former , the latter the keyboard is always losing connection

Definitely the whole mini Bluetooth problem is wi fi related

I have really bad range at home with my headphones at home but while at work with my iphone no problems, explain that one?

I bought a Mac Mini M1 a few days ago. The first days went quite well. I was able to setup everything without any bluetooth issues. I deliberately didn't use the USB-A ports and it was never connected to WiFi (but WiFi is turned ON to make location services work).

BUT... then I connected my Sony WH-1000XM4 headphones and started watching some Youtube videos. Within less than 20 minutes I had several short interruptions and it all ended with both my mouse and keyboard completely disconnecting from the Mac for several minutes. SAD!

Because of Christmas I can apparently wait until January 8 before returning it. And I may do that. But I have ordered a Hideez USB Bluetooth 4.0 Adapter that I will try first. Since I'm in Denmark it will take 7-21 days for it to arrive.

I'm so annoyed about this. Everything else is great about this Mac Mini. Decent price. Good performance. Super quiet. But this bluetooth issue is just not acceptable.

Edit: I have made two changes that have improved the situation.

First, I switched my Logitech MX Master 2S to using the Unifying Receiver instead of bluetooth. I'm not sure how much that helped. I still had audio dropouts fairly often but probably less severe than before.

Second, I changed the sound quality mode on my Sony WH-1000XM4 headphones to use Priority on stable connection mode. That made a big difference. So far I've had no audio dropouts and no other bluetooth issues.

I'll see how it goes over the next few days. I can't say I'm satisfied so returning the Mac is still an option.

Edit 2: Status after a few days of use. Without headphones I have no bluetooth issues at all. With headphones I still occasionally get some lag.

Edit 3: Status after a month. Most of the time bluetooth is stable with no lag or interruptions (still without using bluetooth headphones). However, sometimes bluetooth completely disconnects both keyboard and mouse for an entire minute or two. This is obviously seriously bad and unacceptable. I also received the Hideez bluetooth adapter and have had absolutely no luck getting it to work. I've been in contact with Hideez support and have basically given up. I cannot recommend Hideez to anyone.

Edit 4: Status after 9 months. It has gone from bad to worse. In fact, it's horrible. I have now given up on using a wireless mouse completely and switched to a USB mouse. So the magic keyboard is the only thing using BT now. Even then it sometimes loses connection. I am looking for another Mac now but will probably wait until M3 arrives.

So the new Mac Mini seems to have the exact same enclosure. Correct? Do you think we can expect the exact same Bluetooth issues? I hope we see some tests of this soon.

Hopefully it is still working much better now? Thanks.

I'm afraid not. The situation is basically the same as I described above. I have "solved" it by only using Bluetooth for the keyboard. My Logitech MX Master 3S mouse is connected using the Bolt receiver. And when I need to use headphones I use an audio cable. Even with this setup the keyboard still occasionally loses connection. Though it has actually been a while since it happened.

I don't think there is any doubt that the Mac Mini has very weak Bluetooth. It replaced my old 2013 iMac that never had any issues at all. And it's in the exact same environment. I assume the reason some people have no issues is because their environment is different.

But apart from the weak Bluetooth it really is a great computer.

Sorry to hear that at least you have found a mostly workable solution. I wonder if they will redesign the next chassis?

Just wanted to confirm that I found the only way to avoid the BT problem on my M1 Mini is to plug the Magic Trackpad into the USB port (I'm using a hub, but it works without one, too.) My Mini is well over 1 year old and there has been no improvement in the BT functioning, even after I bought the newer model Magic Trackpad.
