Nope for me. Nothing to upgrade to since Apple already made the decision to not make any more mini sized iPhones. Sitting this out and save money.

I decided to keep my 2016 Nissan Frontier because I don't like the new revision of the model. I'm going to keep my 2022 iPhone SE, and my 2023 MacBook Air. I'm good for a number of years. I'll worry about tariffs when I need a new battery for my Nissan or iPhone, I guess.

Absolutely. There are no winners, and that’s why it is so dumb.
The big difference is that in the rest of the world nobody actually voted for this to happen.
A fix for a made up problem. Not saying tweaks aren't needed here and there but by and large things were working. It's a global economy for good reasons. You get to leverage the best core competencies across the globe and get to amortize development costs across a huge world market. Any country that opts to do everything in-country will have huge costs and a small market.

Battery replacement shops for iPhones will make a killing in the next year. I was aiming for a iPhone 17 pro this fall but if the prices go above 1000 dollar for a phone I'll wait. I will try to replace the battery in my 13. If prices go above 1000 bucks then I'd rather wait another year as the main selling points for a phone for me is the camera and apple intelligence. Apple intelligence is likely a no show for another year and the camera update alone is not worth it to me right now. Especially as I expect that prices will normalize in 18 month from now as trade deals will be hammered out, exemptions granted and tariffs reduced. However, even if all of this happens the prices will stay somewhat higher than before. We will never fully go back to pre tariff prices.

People who think this is a made up problem - drive through Flint, Michigan, or High Point, NC, or Rochester, NY, and tell me if you still think it's a made up problem.

Everyone who needed a functioning iPhone already has one. Nobody needs to update to the latest iPhone 17 later this year. So the smart decision is simply to keep what you have. And wait and see. If Trump has to back down, you win. If Trump doesn't back down, you also win by saving money and not upgrading until next year. Only scenario you lose is if you lose your iPhone and have to buy a new one. Apple Silicon is not changing much. I guess you could take a vacation abroad and bring back a new iPhone sans tariff.

This wont stop me from my yearly upgrade .
I wasn't planning on upgrading my Macbook Pro, but when the M4 came out (before the whole tariff crap started) I checked it out and was impressed. I traded in and my M4 MBP is on the way. I'm slightly more relieved that I did this before there are any Mac price increases.

We're so ****ed. As you said with the Switch, who knows what it'll end up costing with the new tariffs? It might actually be cheaper for my co-worker in Ireland to buy me something and bring it with him on a work trip rather than me buying something here in the US.
There will likely be no tariff in the end. A deal will be made, just like with everyone else.

They offshored jobs very quickly in the 90's. They can reshore just as quickly. And they will if they want to avoid tariffs. Don't be a corporate bootlicker.
I'm not here to support corporations. Offshoring jobs rapidly back then without regard for people's livelihoods was as big as a mistake as what's happening right now. Screw over the many so the rich few can benefit faster. Take your time and make a plan and most people probably wouldn't even notice.

Also, I'm not sure where exactly you expect those jobs to reshore to. We sent sent jobs overseas for a cost savings to a place already experiencing massive industrial growth via the investment of a huge portion of the world. You want to bring our jobs back to a place that is 35 years behind in capability and capacity to scale, where no one else wants to invest in that renewal and everything costs more...

I'm not saying that it can never be done, but it feels like a 10 year plan at best with careful considerations to not mess up people's live and instead we're trying to speedrun through it in a few months.

Listen. We are way better off than some other country. I mean the Penguins are totally screwed!!!!

The Heard and McDonald islands are external territories of Australia. A 10% tariff on Australian imports automatically applies to all Australian territories, which would also include the Coral Sea Islands - which are also uninhabited.

I'm curious if prices outside of the US rise, for Apple to get more revenue from to offset the much bigger tariffs in the US.

As a Canadian customer who already has to pay a lot more for Apple stuff, i would not like that.

A good opportunity is given to consume less, keep longer, and pay off debt. Maybe it’s tough to be Apple, but I will get over it.
though for many the pay off debt part won't work well. A combination of higher prices for the (fewer) things they do still buy/need combined with many layoffs will make it harder to pay off any debts. The major US auto makers have already started layoffs in certain areas.

My guess is you will worry about tarrifs when people you know start losing their jobs, when food becomes expensive, or when you stand in line for 5 hours for civil services that used to take 5 minutes. Tariffs are not just about your batteries. Sure a low tariff here and there is manageable, but giving the middle finger to the whole world? Yeah the world is going to give it back long before you have to worry about a battery.

Yeah I've been listening to all this "you just wait" FUD for the past nearly 100 days, I'm tired of it, doesn't work on me. But props for trying I guess.
