Downloaded the 400+ MB update on my MacBook, update performed, asked for restart and never did ... Looked at Force Close list and only Finder listed.

Using the power button to pop-up the Restart/Shutdown options, restart wouldnt perform. I managed to force shutdown by holding down the power button for several seconds.

After the reboot, About tells me that I'm still on 10.5.2 and software updates is asking to do the same update process all over again ????

Do try using the Combo Updater found here http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/. Probably works better than Software Update when the downloads are huge and the internet is unstable.

Repaired permission (for luck) and did an extra restart after the double-software-update-installation-restart and all is well. :)

Every time I try, I get this :(

^^ Time to download and manually install the combo, I think... (I've never seen that particular error before, BTW...)

Hopefully it's not anything more sinister than that (but you do have current backup, taken just before installing the HUGE 10.5.3 upgrade, right? ;))

I do have a back up, I did a fresh install, then installed the combo.

I'm going to try a Repair Disk, and will report back.

Wonderful update for Airport.

It doesn't even need me to manually connect to a wireless signal after waking up from sleep, now automatically connecting to my previously used network.

Hmm... what happens if you try verifying the disk?

Edit: Ah... too slow... ;)

Thanks for your concern :)

I just booted from the Leopard disk, and tried repairing permissions, the same error occurred. I then pressed Repair Disk, and it said all was ok. I just re-installed the combo update (I kept it on my backup drive, so as not to have to download for friends and family members I 'work' for) and everything seems to be fine.

I did get my first Kernel Panic on this Mac about a week ago, so I'm being careful and I'll regularly back up.

Applied it only to the 17" iMac G5 so far, it still hasn't fixed the fact that it is unable to see our WiFi. Buttholes, last time it worked was at 10.5.1, and I can see I'm going to have to reinstall and only update to that point to get it working again.

I'm holding off installing it on the other machines for now.

Sleep mode works again in my MacPro after the update, it didn't work when I was running 10.5.2 and I tried all the fix suggestions that were posted in the forum so I am so far very happy with 10.5.3.

didn't have issues before this update -- seemed a bit sluggish on reboot, but i think it's fine.
i haven't tested the issues i was having with iMovie 08 crashing out on me every time i have a non-mac-formatted disk mounted to the desktop (i.e. my flash memory from my HD camcorder), but i will . . . oh i will

I didn't have any issues before the update, so the only thing I've noticed after it is that Spotlight searches are even faster now.

I seem to have gotten some free RAM back, I was using about 80-90% with camino/messenger, now I'm down to around 70% usage with the same apps, it is a noticeable difference as well. Oh, and the famous DVD player crash has been fixed for my machine.

10.5.3 resolved a graphics issue introduced by Leopard at introduction.

I have a G4 Mini that when minimizing or maximizing items to/from the dock, the desktop would flip upside down, and return to normal in under a second.

This issue is gone.

It did not resolve the graphics issue with Time Machine. At 1920x1200, Time Machine is unusable due to wildly flickering screens. If I drop my resolution to 1024x768, it works.

Hopefully in 10.5.4. I don't use TM for restorations yet, so it hasn't been an issue. But the screen flip was terrible, and is very nice to see it fixed.

I've got a few issues but, for the most part it's working fine.

1. I don't have the translucent menu bar option in Desktop and Screensaver prefs anymore. (Might have to do with the hack I applied back in 10.5.2 ... even though I reverted back to the stock files, I still don't get the translucent options)

2. Call of Duty 2 still runs like crap on my new 8800GT

3. Menus are now very very opaque. Pretty much white now.

4. Spotlight results still suck

I am glad with this update. It seems to feel snappier and it fixed a really nasty issue that prevented me from writing to my work smb shares. I am also really happy about syncing my address book with gmail.

It did crash on me once- Camino froze loading google, and then it refused to force quit Camino, then Safari froze and that wouldn't quit either, but after a restart everything's been fine. Thanks a bunch apple!

10.5.3

No problems with the 10.5.3 upgrade on my MacBook Pro 2.2. Used the combo. Only thing that looked like a problem was when Time Machine took a long time (30 minutes) getting ready but then it transferred over 2 Gb and has been working ever since. Photoshop and InDesign (CS3) seem to play nice with Spaces now and InDesign will also hide without any nasty aftereffects.
