Yep. It's good.

Exposé is faster, Spaces is smoother and it's generally more prompt. 10.5.2 got VERY laggy.

I have a feeling this was to do with the graphics update Apple put in 10.5.3.

10.5.3 is complete and utter crap here. I downloaded and installed it this morning. The RAW update failed, but there was no error message for the 10.5.3 update and was told to restart. I did. I waited. I waited some more. My Mac Pro sat on the grey screen with the Apple logo and the swirly bit underneath. I gave it 10 minutes then had to leave for work. I got home and nothing had changed. Grey screen with swirly thing spinning away. So I yank the power cord and restart, resetting the PRAM. Same thing. Then I figure I might need to put the install disc in and repair permissions or something. Well... I can't open the disc drive of course. I can't even use Bootcamp to get into Windows and actually use my computer. So I now have a $3000 end table. Wonderful.

edit: OK. Figured out how to manually get the drive open. Restarted with install disc in drive. I used the disc utility to very the drive, no problems. I repaired permissions, a few problems, but they appeared to get fixed. I made sure that the proper drive was set as the startup drive. Restart and crossed my fingers. I'll refrain from repeating what I actually said when the grey screen sat there, and sat there, and sat there because well, let's just say I'm not in my happy place right now.

I'm wondering if I'm on the verge of a reinstall. Joy. Then when it comes to updating to 10.5.3 again (since I doubt I'll get the option to only go to 10.5.2) I'm probably screwed all over again. Yay. Go Apple!

Wonderful update for Airport.

It doesn't even need me to manually connect to a wireless signal after waking up from sleep, now automatically connecting to my previously used network.
What the...

You had to do that before? Mine has done that since 10.5.0.

Or maybe you're being ironic and I swallowed the bait like a total sucker...

I found a minor bug. I was hoping to use the new gmail contact sync as a free workaround to sync contacts between my imac and macbook. I synced the contacts from my imac to gmail, but the gmail contact sync option didn't appear in my address book on my macbook. It reports as version 4.1.1, which I believe is correct, but the gmail option isn't here- strange.

Had my first kernel panic on this MBA since I got it 3 months ago. I just closed the lid back at my work, and when I came home, opened it and faced a kernel panic screen.

It was very lucky that I saved all my important work and quit all programs before I closed the lid.

Also, yesterday I've had to reboot after my menu bar icons started to disappear and reappear every 3 seconds. Crash report app went crazy being called after each crash, and its dumping started to raise CPU until I got a core shutdown.

Both issues happened just once, everything worked very fine on 10.5.2.

I'm really hating 10.5.3, didn't see any benefit yet. I'm really considering going back to 10.5.2.

The update has been fine except it killed the layout of any message boxes that may pop up.

Can some one please tell me what the difference is between me downloading this up date , from the normal software update or using the ... combo update ..? I only have a very slow dial up internet connection , which normally takes Hours to download anything thats large , which download option would be best for me .?

Parallels 5600

I don't know whether or not it has something to do with the 10.5.3, but my XP VM running under parallels has started to behave oddly -- all of a sudden it becomes unresponsive and screen refresh in the applications I'm running begins to stutter.

Has anyone check their Wi-Fi icon on the menu bar? All options on mine are greyed out and not selectable. Also clicking the "Open Date & Time" under the time icon in the menu bar does not launch System Preferences.

Any ideas to fix these?

Switcher updates to 10.5.3

The only odd thing that I've noticed is that my screen brightness was reset to maximum (I normally have it at 1 bar).

Programs seem to launch slightly more quickly. My Windows VM (under VMware Fusion 1.1.2) works as before. So far, no problems have raised their ugly heads.

All in all, a much better experience than when using Windows.

It seems to have fixed a rendering/graphics problem I was having with Safari and Mail... so I'm happy.

Different sized updates, read this: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25799. Basically if your Mac has all the updates prior to 10.5.3, you might be offered the smaller update. The Combo Update includes all the files needed to update any versions of 10.5 to 10.5.3.

If your internet is slow/unstable, I recommend downloading the Combo Update. Better still download using a resumable download manager, e.g. wget, DownThemAll!, or Firefox 3 RC1's download manager. You could even download from a PC and transfer the Combo Update over via a USB disk.

The Combo Update is the largest compared to Software Update. But you can be sure that the file you downloaded is not corrupted. Plus you can reuse it if you ever reinstall Leopard.

Get the Combo Update here: http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/

Well I'm back to having a functioning computer plus I didn't actually lose anything. I still had my 320GB drive with 10.5.1 on it from when I bought the Mac Pro. I threw that in, changed the system drive over to it with the install disc, and was able to recover everything I wanted from my other drive. Pulled it out, reinstalled to my 500GB drive and updated. I crossed my fingers, prayed, and sacrificed a chicken and a goat. 10.5.3 updated fine this time. Now to just get the system back to where I had it with regards to all the settings and whatnot.

Hopefully this is a one time only incident, but at least I was able to recover from it in the end.

Seems to be ok on my end. One thing that made me leap for joy is that I can now hide InDesign CS3. Really really excited about that! Maybe there were more adobe/apple bugs fixed on this update.

Then maybe I can retire my solid 10.4 at work!

So far, so good... the only thing I've noticed so far is that it seems to have reset my MacBook Pro's "Automatically adjust brightness" setting to the default (the box is checked), which is annoying. I suspect I may find other annoying defaults have returned as well.

working fine for me. i was not having too many issues anyway. i am glad that apple addresses the problems Leopard does have in a timely manner. :apple:

Its not like there's a huge rush (afaik) for you to get 10.5.3, how about going somewhere (friend's house/Apple store) with broadband, and downloading the Combo update there and putting it on a USB stick.

People with problems are often the ones who got the updates through the SU app.

I voted "no" because 10.5.3 did not include a fix I expected and really did due diligence since 10.5.2 released to ask Apple to give us back what they took away at 10.5.2: a way to have translucent menus with the blur effect.

Urban Terror

10.5.3 broke Urban Terror in my 2.2 SR MBP. I used to get 90 fps, after the update I get 20 fps. UT is the only f. game I play

Voted No, Still wont play nicely with Adobe CS Apps

The instal went flawlessly using software update, "download only", then manual instal on my MBP 2.4 SR and iMac G4 1.25 20".

I have been eagerly awaiting this update hoping to be able to get CS3 Web Premium to work and update as it should.

I'm feeling somewhat maudlin at the moment. Come on Apple, I want my Macs to work properly, it "Just Works" just isn't good enough!:(

No good here. Computer will not shutdown without holding power button and computer will not start if my external FW 800 connected WD My Book Studio is plugged in. Arghh!!!
