How can the 7 not be so then?
iPhone 7 is a better phone than 6s in my opinion in every factor, only the headphone jack is a compromise.

Yes the 7 is slightly better. If you're going to buy one of the two, buy the 7 but if you're already on the 6s changing for the 7 wont give you any perception of improved performance. The 7 is better on paper, in real life not at all.

yeah cause the 7 for sure is slower and has a terrible form factor compared to a 6s

Actually it feels cheap next to the 6S. I’ve had two iPhone 7s and went back to the 6S, due to the hissing and the camera not being good enough for my dogs fur, also it just didn’t feel as solid.

For me I think my iPhone 4 will hold a special place for ever as the best iPhone design, like a solid piece of jewellery, until the home button started to pack up that is lol..

But the 6S is a great design, I actually wonder if the new 8 none Plus is the best though bar the headphone jack? Because it’s a mix of both the 6S and the 4?

Wicked fast. Headphone jack. Solid form factor. It feels like the 6s is the last great iPhone...

An amazing phone, I still have one. But not the last great one - iPhone 7, 8 and X are better. Wicked fast, solid form factor, a lot of improvements....

Im currently trying to talk myself into an iPhone 8 Plus (not interested in the X until it gets the plus treatment, beautiful device but far too small for me) and Im struggling, now I have no need to update my phone but ill be honest, I want a new toy but I'm not sure the 8 is that much better than the 6s, Ive slowly embraced wireless so lack of headphone doesn't bother me as much as it used to(though given the choice Id much rather have it, I don't care what anyone says it will be a very useful feature for some time yet...or at least it would have been)

So.....I think id have to agree, I'm not at all convinced the slight speed and camera improvements are better than having a headphone jack and the X is actually quite small as far as I'm concerned so I actually think the 6s is best overall if you make any use of that jack

I share some of your similar thoughts. The iPhone X I think offers a lot and is a step forward in A new direction. But being how I have really appreciated the larger Plus model iPhones over the years, the 6.5 iPhone X will easily be my preference for 2018.

‘Great’ and ‘best’ for many people are mutually exclusive.

For example Michael Schumacher is the best formula one driver in the history of the sport and his records will stand for many years to come. The greatest driver in history is subjective because people have their own views on what means ‘great’. For me it’s Jim Clark, for others Ayrton Senna. The same can be applied to mobile phones, and for me the 6S was the last great iPhone due to what it offered. It brought 3D Touch, had the iconic form factor on the front, and had a headphone jack. It was also widely available to the masses. After that I felt Apple lost a bit of touch with their user base. We are in a weird era for the iPhone if you ask me.

No, I understand what the OP meant by “great” and you explained it nicely too. I just strongly disagree, that’s all. 6S brought roughly the same amount of innovations as the 7 or 8, and X brought even more - in my opinion. Also, I could’t care less about the headphone jack. Even if I did, there’s an adapter and now you can even charge the phone and listen - if you’re into that. And the argument “I forgot my adapter” applies just to small children. If you care about headphones that much, don’t forget your adapter - it’s that simple. Attach it to those expensive headphones. I really don’t get it.

Personally, I use AirPods, so I don’t care- but even if I did want to use the cord, it wouldn’t bother me.

That’s fair enough, that’s why I said it’s subjective. Many like myself don’t care about FaceID or notches or Bluetooth headphones, so the very definition is different to the individual. It all boils down to what value we put on an innovation and some are more exciting than others which helps define what we think of a said device.

As long as people don’t get offended that others don’t think their phone is the greatest then there is no harm in having a difference of opinion.

It is. It is the phone Jobs should have launched in 2007. It is the phone Apple themselves can never beat, no matter the improvements in the phones post 6s.

For me it is..

The best value for money iPhone is the 6s.

Still super fast, take great photos, headphone jack, etc.

Easily able to handle everyday tasks for the next 2 years.

Surely the X is the current last great iPhone?

To be honest I think theres far too much compromising on the X to make it great, (lets not even get into the headphone jack argument) but that screen is actually really small if your used to a plus phone and that notch is a nuisance, I used to think people complaining about the notch was some grade A first world problem stuff but the more Ive tried out the X in the store the more annoying Ive found it, a device that expensive needs to be damn near perfect but the phone just screams 'not quite ready yet" to me.......now I know some will find the screen size perfect but for many of us who want the big screen that we've had years now its a downgrade

If the rumours are true and we get the plus this year(I think you can probably bet your life we will) then yeah I think the X could be amazing, it is cool af in a lot of ways.....but there are too many ways its not as good as it could or should be right now.......imo

Uhhh, the phone that had a battery recall due to unexpected shutdowns and led to "Trottlegate"? This is the last great phone? Go back to the 4S or forward to the 8, please.

I truly think the iPhone X is the best iPhone made yet. Every phone has it flaws and almost every iPhone had some sort of “gate”. But the iPhone X is an amazing piece of hardware and I’ve had no issue really at all.

The iPhone X is aimed at such a small segment of the market I can’t see how it could be crowned the greatest. Best possibly but not greatest.

I think that's a reasonable view. No one would say that the original iPhone was the "best," at least not after it's first successor. But it was a game-changer. I think that's the way to look at the X (or at least it's the way I look at the X): an amazing device with amazing technological leaps, but just like the original, not one that I really want to own and use when all things are considered. YMMV, though.

I’d say 6S Plus. Especially with iOS 12.
Do like the dual cameras on my new XS Max, though.

True dat. Also the last with the Qualcomm modem. RIP.

The 6S bent don't forget.
That was the 6, the 6s got a higher strength aluminum casing to fix that. The 6s was great for me because as much as I love new Apple gadgets I had absolutely no reason to upgrade to a 7 or 8. They’re both better obviously, but the 6s was good enough for me and a lot of people for 3 years. How many of us kept phones that long before then? I caved to temptation and upgraded to the XS this year, but I could’ve easily done another year with the 6s. Great phone for its time.

I think the iPhone 6s Plus 128gb is the best phone ever made. I sadly gave it to my wife after upgrading to the Xr. I think Apple reached a zenith with that phone and it is still going strong now. it still supports the latest iOS and I think if it were still available for general sale I would recommend it even now to people after a new phone. I bet it would be an absolute bargain now.

Curious, what didn't you like about the 7 or the 8 then? Each of those phones upped the ante of each other in processor speed, sound, features, display, charging, overall looks and camera etc.

I use the 6s on iOS 9. Really like it, blazing fast, really great battery life (8-9 hours of on-screen usage without issues), and I really enjoy it.
It has the headphone jack, and it does everything I want/need it to. I don't see the latter changing anytime soon.
