Last year Apple unveiled the iPhone on June 7th, with preorders starting on the 14th. The actual launch was on the 24th. That's 10 days from preorder til launch. If the rumors can hold true, the invites should be sent today for a September 21st unveil, 28th preorders, and a October 7th launch, which is 10 days after preorders begin again

Does Apple send out actual paper invites, or just emails?

Just email

is there a reserved "corporate meeting..." at the moscone center? or are they holding this on campus this year?

Apple generally uses the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts for fall events. The campus events are for smaller based events, due to less seating available. With the iPhone 5 they will want as much press as possible there, so it will be at Yerba Buena most likely. There's only a handful of dates available though at Yerba Buena: September 21st, 26th, 27th, 28th, & October 3rd and 5th. http://www.ybca.org/calendar

I suppose they could use Moscone, I just don't see it happening.
