pretty much what im thinking. maybe they are doing something different this year? have the beta 8 this friday, and the gm the following friday and than have the event the following wednesday with iOS 5 being released at the event? :confused:

The Gold Master will never ever come out before the keynote. If it did it would reveal the major features that are as yet, secret, mainly the voice/nuance integration.

Think about the White iPhone 4.

Months and months went by with speculation and confusion. It is the way the operate

So no, they wouldn't.

It would be a bit of a laugh though at the next media event: Tim walks on stage and says “Here’s iOS5. Oh by the way if you're hanging out for a new iPhone, it's another 12 months away!"

Tim would be wishing he never took the reins.

Friday September 23, 2011 Apple Keynote and the release of IOS 5 GM
Monday October 10, 2011 IOS 5 releases for the public
Friday October 14, 2011 iPhone 4S or 5 launches.
This is my prediction.
 
why would they do it?

If they announce that new iphone won't be here in this year, people are going to purchase other crappy droid phone now and they will probably lock them in for 2 year contract.
 
We keep seeing all these predicted dates for news come and pass with no more news other than what can be made up on forums like this one. If Apple is so secretive, who is to say when this phone will either be announced or released. I am currently using an LG dumbphone and am itching to get an iPhone but I could be waiting a few weeks to months. Who knows.

They wouldn't tell you simply because if they said they were going to release something it would allow all of the competition to try to figure out what and come up with something shortly after there release. This is why companies keep quiet about new products for the most part unless information is otherwise leaked.
 
I'll play Devils Advocate to this thread. I imagine if they were to delay the iPhone until next year, they would create a controlled leak through one of the bigger business publications like WSJ or Bloomberg. Thats I believe how they communicated a fall launch instead of the expected June launch.

There's no way they'll hold the event on Friday.

General sale - yes; event - no.
 
I recently had my iphone 3g stolen and I just received the money from the insurance claim.
I need to get a new phone but I won't buy the iphone 4 at this time because it is too old.
I'll give apple one month to get their act together or else I'll get one of the very appealing new android phones.
In any case, I'l be looking at the competition this time around since the smartphone market is now very competitive.

Other than enthusiast forums like this one, there is no hype. It's all speculation and people itching for information.

No keynote on a Friday.
They won't do 1 week beta -> GM. They'll do 2-3 weeks.

1.
Tues 9/27-28: GM+Keynote

2.
Fri 9/16: Beta 8
Tues 10/4-5 and maybe 11-12: GM+Keynote
 
do carriers have to approve ios5 before the keynote? if so one rumor said Oct. 5 is when that can be expected to happen so maybe no keynote until that day.
 
Well if nothing is announced soon I'm going to just go ahead and get an iPhone 4. I can't wait for a company to release a phone when I'm in need of an upgrade. I'm still going to wait until the end of the month. Didn't Apple say they will have a product transition that will affect the next quarter? Or was it this one? I think this quarter ends on the 24th and if that is true maybe will here an announcement after the 24th and invites go out sometime next week. Sorry if I sound like a dumbass.
 
They have until October 1st (My birthday) to give us something. If not, I'm getting the delicious EVO 3D.
