Interesting in this case indeed. 90 days that’s rough. 2 yr in europe
I used to get all riled up about it but I’ve come to embrace it. It gives deep anxiety to newly arrived whining foreigners, therefore they leave, and only the nice foreigners remain. Aside from that it makes you really think about what you buy, research the product, etc. 😁

Also service is a completely different concept here. Apple Japan basically acknowledges the only thing you can do to an iPad is replace the screen. Other than that anything else requires a new iPad. So basically AppleCare is a hybrid warranty/insurance policy. And a good one. For other things like home appliances, having a guy come to your home to repair a refrigerator is actually a joy. For example the guy came to replace a worn rubber seal on 1 of the 6 door/drawers on my fridge. He thoughtfully brought repair parts for all of the doors, and for only ¥3000 more replaced all of them. ¥8000 total including labor and tax. That extended the life of my refrigerator for probably another five years. Service is on top of the world here. I don’t think I could live in any other country anymore. I’m somewhat turning Japanese ha ha ha…

I think accidental damage stops at "is it in more than one piece" after that it is no longer covered under AppleCare Plus. But that may have changed recently.
Yeah there are clauses in the AppleCare+ t & c that they won’t repair things in multiple pieces, clear signs of abuse, or if it’s “beyond economic value,” something to that effect.

AppleCare+ coverage pays for itself with one use typically. For me it’s worth it having extra peace of mind. But I’m also the guy who maxes out life insurance in case I die, I don’t want my wife to struggle. I’d rather err on the side of caution.

If I had just a nickel in my hand for every time someone here, Apple Support Forums and Reddit posted that they damaged their screen or the hinges broke but didn't have Applecare Plus I would be rich enough to buy out Apple. I find it offensive that some here are trying to call others careless just because they have had zero issues with their Macs and others have. Furthermore they are calling people stupid for buying Applecare Plus. Okay good for you, you've had no issues, that doesn't mean you never will and it doesn't mean that others should buy Applecare just because they are careless. SMH.
I think the point most people are making is that Extended warranties in general are priced such that the house always wins. If you were to buy an extended warranty for every device that you were offered one for, you would spend more than you would spend just covering the occasional issue you have along the way yourself. It looks like a good deal, but it never is.

iPad Pro 12.9 3rd gen I just got replaced under AppleCare, my nephew cracked the screen... not bothering upgrading so I extended AppleCare to monthly just now after the 2 years were up.

I've never ordered AppleCare on my desktops (and I don't use laptops) but I did get AppleCare on the iMac 24" I ordered today since its a gift for my brother and my nephew will probably figure out how to break it.

I get AppleCare on my phones even though I get a new one every year but I give away the old one so they have coverage... when I got the original iPhone I knew I'd be breaking a screen every year...

.

You also won't need to pay a fee if there is a manufacturing issue, as problems that Apple's fault will be covered under the standard one-year warranty. If the warranty has expired, Apple will charge the $699 fee.
yeah… try that in a modern nation with a modicum of consumer rights. If it’s Apple’s fault that liability doesn’t end after 365 days.

I have dropped my 11-inch 2018 iPad Pro multiple times in these 2.5 years and despite minor cosmetic damage, the device is going really strong and I don’t need any repair in the two years of AppleCare+ coverage. My insurance premium was totally wasted.

Thing is, there are plenty of accidental insurance policies that cover far more than just your Apple products and cost significantly less. Also, for the supposedly premium product and prices associated with Apple, why don’t they have the confidence to offer more than 12 months warranty on their products.

Applecare is a no brainer on anything Apple. It’s especially great now with monthly payments.
I’ve never had apple care on an iPhone. Never an issue. I have it on my 2020 iPad Pro because it covers the pencil and the delicate magic keyboard that I swear will start to fray on the edges.

It’s definitely worth it on macs. They break a lot out of warranty. Usually there ends up being a repair program, but I always seem to have to get my repairs before Apple realizes they have a design flaw.

In my experience so far, Mac Mini has been the most robust and reliable Mac system ever made. Virtually flawless with proper cooling, without quirky keyboard mechanism, backlit display to speak of or any fancy coating. It just needs more spotlight, and frequent upgrades from Apple.

Mini is a simple reliable computer just like any regular desktop. Had 2 Macbooks failed on me, 3 iMacs with dirty displays/broken graphic card, and 3 flawless Mac Minis.

No. The Applecare agreement specifically states that the accidental damage part of the plan does not cover catastrophic damage. A drop is accidental damage as more than likely a corner of the screen gets damaged but if you sit on it, roll over it with your car or dunk it in the pool and allow it soak past the water resistant tolerances that would be considered catastrophic.

so if my iPhone slipped out of my pocket and down a bridge, breaking into 100 pieces, it wouldn’t be covered?!? BRB canceling my AppleCare+ now

Because there’s any product in the world at all competitive with iPad Pro?

good luck with that.
My Galaxy Tab S7+ is my preferred tablet (I have a 3rd gen Ipad Pro 12.9, too). Both are excellent but the Tab is easier to carry. Also, the screen is better (probably not better than mini-led). On both, apps are great. Also, android is more customizable. I'm a fan of Apple but not a fanboy...

Never had apple care on anything, my home insurance covers these things and costs less than £15 a month 👍👍👍

Extended warranties are always priced with a house edge, so in the long run you will spend more on Apple Care than just replacing those products you have damaged (unless you are extremely clumsy and claim regular).

Seems like it’s time for a lawsuit regarding this too, and official general regulations. Unbelievable, 699 is certainly not a repair. We need 8y right to repair, and something like right for „real value repair“. Based on the overall purchase price, by deducting the % value of the unbroken rest, and by considering the base purchase costs.

E.g: If a Speaker breaks, we shall pay for the speaker only+replacement work time of 30min. If its all clued together, Apples fault, this should be seen as a replaceable part by law.

So Apple is saying they don’t want me to buy a new iPad Pro. mission accomplished. I love my iPads and iPad pros, but they have been anything but reliable. Apple is basically forcing AC on us. Very unethical, and I won’t play that game.
There really need to be even more people who just refuse to give Apple money especially when they feel Apple are acting unethically.

I think iPads are the one category I get AppleCare+ on, it is quite cheap for what you get. Never get it on phones and stuff because it just cost too much while my home insurance’s electronics coverage is good enough. AppleCare+ only wins if I break it multiple times.
