Okay maybe not entirely true, but I find it really odd that I can find Broken Social Scene, the Weakerthans, and the Constantines on the US store, but they aren't available in Canada. So much for promoting quality Canadian content. They even have two of the three listed above on the UK version, and the Weakerthans on France.

I guess I will be buy CDs and LPs for a while yet.

I'm not sure how long you have been following iTMS's, but when Apple first released iTMS in the US they had nothing. None of the bands you just mentioned, just have patience they will be added eventually. The greatest thing about this is that now that there IS a Canadian store, they can start adding more music.

PS hey guys (and gals) the Complete U2 is number 2 in top albums, this would mean that you guys probably put it there, I'd say that maybe this is top two of maybe 5 albums sold. ;)

Localization for Canada?

After a delay reaching the promised November release, we've learned from an inside source that the Canadian localization of the iTunes Music Store is headed for launch on December 1.

What does Canadian localization mean?

Dialogs that say???

Would you like to purchase this song, eh?

Click "Yes" or "Piss off, eh?"

:p

No one concerned about the 128 kbps quality?

Strange!(?)

Maybe I'm an audio maniac!?!?!?

It depends. Where do you listen to your music. If in the car, on the go, etc. it will be fine. If it's in your custom acousitically designed listening room with your $50,000 Hi-fi, then 128kbps is probably not good enough.

You can listen to 30 seconds of each song. Try it and see for yourself how good/bad it sounds.

well at least i got some sort of surprise today. not that there would be a music store

but $0.99 a song. very good

what happens when the loonie falls again ? ahah

Um, Canadian's say "eh" about as much as American's say "h-yuk" or "yee-haw!".

I represent that remark being from the hills of east tennessee. On the note of sarcasism...i know a canadian that says "eh" all the time.

Thanks guys!

I guess i wasn't up to date with the AAc encoding; it seems much better than the old mp3 that you could hear the compression...

OK! BACK TO EARTH!!!

BACK TO ITMS CANADA!!!

Is it just me????

I was on iTMS on my Mac this morning, no problem...

But I'm at work on my PC and everything is in French!

They must be updating something and setting up the dual language stores.

Now it's Ireland's Turn

What with Canada now up and running, I think it's Ireland's turn to rant. Every iTunes fan in Ireland has been very patient and a lot more calm about not getting your store. Well done and I hope it comes soon.

I've already requested Jean Leloup, Autechre, Boards of Canada and Squarepusher through the "Resquest Artists" form...

The finnish store needs some BoC too! Kicks totally ass! actually anything from Warp records would be cool..

"albums" vs. "entire album" vs. bought-from-brick-and-mortar-album

Hehe. Oh Apple, how do I love the?

BTW, I noticed some "discrepancies" in the songs included on an "album". I think that the iTMS (and possibly other music stores?) are going to have to not call them "albums" or "entire albums" soon. For example, I was going to grab the Barenaked For The Holidays "album" off of iTMS. Specifically, they have a song (We Three Kings) that Sarah Mc. guests on.

Except that I notice that song is absent.

To confirm, I check out the official site:
http://barenakedladies.com/holidays/

Sure enough it's there.

So what gives? Why do they crop songs from albums? How many more are like that? Would most people notice they're not getting a full album? Should the buyers be informed? (or at least, not misled)? I'm mildly ticked, but I'm glad I caught it.

Anyway. Just an FYI.

You got that right, but has Apple?
The U2 complete package is listed at the Canadian store
as $149.99 (CDN)

The same collection at the USA store is $149.99 (US)
By today's exchange rate, that's $201 (CDN)

Actually its closer to $178 CDN...

I have the same problem with the regular apple stores difference in pricing going the other way..

I don't see the CDN dollar going down any time soon vs the Greenback...

The store seems to be half french, half english right now on mine. It honnestly looks very stupid...

I'm very disapointed about the lack of québecois artists in here, I am outraged!

Anyone have any idea if they are going to have a francophone section like music stores here in montréal?

There are still a few glitches to iron out... From home, I can view the CDN pages in all of their glory.

From work, some of the labels are in French.

"Choisir le Store"
"Parcourir la musique"
"Cheques-cadeaux"

It looks like they simply see where your IP is coming from, and assign some french to your page if it matches a certain block.

Does anyone know of where I can set the language on the Canadian site?

I had the same thing here... After choosing the canadian store a few times in a row it switched to English...

uhm. why not get the mp3's direct from the source at bleep? they were one of the first lables with an online store to offer awesome quality mp3's (Lame VBR) without any limitations (mp3 player, software, multiple pc restrictions, etc). sure they are a little more expensive, but you do get access to their <almost> complete catalogue, hard to find ltd. edition stuff, as well as goodies from other experimental/electronic labels.

http://www.warprecords.com/bleep/

i have a funny feeling that it will be a while before you see any substantial number of warp releases on itms simply because they've put so much effort into bleep. sure its not itms, its bleep, its warp. so enjoy.

when the loonie falls again (i.e. $1 CAN = $0.85 US down to $0.78 US or whatever), that means the our singles effectively become even cheaper when compared with the rest of the world :)

enjoy!

WE DON'T NEED THIS!!! It is VERY STUPID to include EVERYTHING THATS FRENCH in ONE SECTION... French songs are as Alternative, as Rock, as Electronic, as Blues and as Jazz as the English songs...

Just give it time... i expect that within a month a lot more will be added. i think getting the store open to meet customer expectations was the higher priority. now that that's done, they can focus on updating :)
