Hey ~Shard~,
I'm up in La Ronge. Hows the weather down there in Regina?
:D

Small world, huh? Weather's not too bad today, do you guys have a lot of snow yet? ;)

Well at least we know that there are at least 2 people here in Saskatchewan that will be using iTMS Canada when it is announced!

Browsing iTMS not currently available?

I'm in Canada and I tried to access the iTMS to browse around and I was redirected to the page where you can choose an international version of the store. When I tried to enter the US store, I was redirected back to this same page. Ditto for the three other stores. In short, I can't even browse the store at all.

Has anyone else noticed this? Either it's just a bug or maybe Apple is about to launch something... :)

The same thing happens to me - interesting...

ditto

Can't connect to the iTMS US store from Canada using iTunes 4.6. Used to be able to (last monday) to browse samples and check movie trailers.

I hope the Canadian iTMS is coming soon because now we aren't even allowed to peek through the windows of the US store anymore. :(

Exactly. If this is a sign, then let's hope they make the announcement bright and early tomorrow. If it's a glitch, let's hope they fix it right away! ;)

iTMS Canada tomorrow?

Holy Cow! I think they mixed up the months. I have "cool" feeling we are getting iTunes music store in Canada on October 26th and not November 26th :)

Funny, I've had the same feeling too...

Same here is Aus

The same is happening here in Australia, which has also been rumoured to be opening a store. Good sign maybe.

BTW you can still search for songs.

Very interesting. Same thing with me, and that's a behaviour change from last week.

Oh great, now my hopes are up. I was trying to avoid that.

Here is an article that even makes mention of macrumors.com:

Apple to open iTunes music store in Canada next month

The Vancouver Sun
Wed 27 Oct 2004
Page: D4
Section: BusinessBC
Source: Ottawa Citizen

Ending months of speculation, Apple Computer Inc. said Tuesday it will launch its popular iTunes online music store in Canada next month.

But fans of the company's products -- who have been clamoring for iTunes information on websites such as Macrumors.com -- will have to wait for more details.

Apple did not provide specifics such as price and the number of songs available.

The move is the latest sign that the market for paid music downloads is maturing here as the music industry struggles to adapt to an online business model.

ITunes will go head to head with Napster.ca, launched this summer by digital-media company Roxio Inc., and Moontaxi Media Inc.'s Puretracks.com, the first paid online-music service in Canada, which has a marketing arrangement with Vancouver-based TELUS.

Quebecor Media Inc. recently introduced its own service, Archambault.ca, and retailers such as Future Shop, a unit of Best Buy Co., have licensed Puretracks' technology to launch online music stores.

Launched in spring 2003, the online iTunes store has become the dominant provider of paid online music, racking up more than 150 million downloads.

Apple has a market share of over 70 per cent in Britain and the United States, where users can download individual songs for 99 cents US.

The service has become an effective online platform for the company's iPod digital-music player, which accounted for over 12 per cent of sales in the last quarter.

ITunes should do well here, since its brand is already well recognized among music fans young and old, said analyst Kaan Yigit, president of Solutions Research.

But the service will be more effective as a tool for selling iPods than as a stand-alone business, he said, because demand for paid download services has yet to take off.

I guess MacRumors was right afterall! It may indeed by November 26th now as initially reported - well done on whoever picked this one up...

I think Steve would have said something...at least hinted if it was looking good... :(

Please clarify-- are you the hosERs or the hosEEs?
Since we've been hosed so many times by Apple Canada, is suppose that would make Apple Canada the hosERs and the rest of us Canadians the hosEEs...but perhaps that discussion would be best left to Bob and Doug Mackenzie. :D

BUMP!!!

Here's a direct quote I pulled off of Macnn.com about the lack of iTMS in Ireland (bold and underline are my emphasis).
....Several readers note the lack of a localized version of the iTunes Music Store for Ireland. to which Apple said "We are not announcing any new stores beyond Canada in November at this point of time.

I guess this confirms that we are getting an iTMS in November!
:) :D :D

Not a bad deal for Canadian customers, considering the 78¢ Canadian dollar...

Not really. The Canadian dollar may be stronger, but our CD prices are still lower than in the USA, and the other online music stores are also selling tracks at 99¢CAN.

It'd be a disaster for Apple NOT to sell tracks at 99¢CAN.

Has history shown that the launch of a new store in a new country coincides with the addition of artists from that country being added to the iTMS? There is some Canadian 80's hair band stuff I just gotta have ...

dollar

Yes, but the current predications are for an $0.85 CDN dollar to appear before then end of the year -- so the gap, and hopefully the complaining, will narrow :)

Regards,

Leroy

...and we're already nearly at $0.83.

Broke it briefly today actually! The problem with this is that as a result it also reached parity, which isn't a good thing for exporting among other things - kind of a double-edged sword really, and a little concerning...

Yes, it will mean some things will be a little more difficult for some industries. But, as with all things, moderation is usually better, and with my industry sure it was easier to sell to foreigners, but it was also more expensive to buy the gear I needed to do my thing.

And at the end of the day, a more powerful dollar is helping me be more productive more than it is taking away my ability to compete internationally. A good trade-off in my mind.

Yeah, I think it's significant to note that even with the rising dollar, our budget surplus increased (the only of the G8 to have one, and the only projecting one for the next two years), and our trade surplus with the US increased.

I know in BC, with the recessions of the past decades our forestry industry rebuilt to become very efficient (side note: that's why the issue with the US; they can't compete with the efficiencies in the milling here). I bet a lot of the core industries accross the country have done the same thing.

You can't be complacent, but we're certainly on good footing.

Well... having posted often enough in the old "iTunes Canada is coming soon" threads, I've avoided this one until now. I'm surprised to see nobody gloating that they've got it in europe... Somebody posted in page 1 or 2 "Great, now when will we see it in Finland" or something like that..... Looks like he/she is one lucky dude. Dude.

2004-11-07 and still no iTMS Canada.

See you tomorrow.
Remember, the original rumor was for it to open Nov. 26. That's a Friday. Hasn't Apple had a few other music events on Fridays? I believe the Nov. 26 date is correct.
