Waiting less than half a second before you go swipe crazy is hardly classified as "unresponsive ".

Oh it definitely is. A half a second in responsiveness terms is forever. It was the knock on android forever and now that they are getting it sorted out it appears that Apple is purposefully adding unresponsiveness to parts of their OS. I do find that a bit puzzling.

So is windows 8 a beta also because it doesn't have a start button because people wanted it? The animation speed in iOS 7 doesn't bother everyone.

I'd wager a bet that 98% of the iPhone user community won't even notice the slight delay.

People can have opinions and the reason that most of this country owns an iPhone is because one upon a time "it just worked".

And I would argue it still just works. It may work differently than iOS 6, and it certainly doesn't seem to appear to work to your satisfaction, but it still just works. I've been using it since Beta 1 and the GM just works for me.

And honestly, I'm not sure why so many of you are bitching about the speed of the animations. If you have the free time it post here again and again, on the same topic, beating the same dead horse...it would appear to me that you have the ONE FREAKING SECOND it takes for the animation to complete.

Except I wasn't bitching about the animations...

And yes...I am saying it is absolutely ridiculous to think that more than .0001% of the iPhone using population will give two s**ts about not being able to tap an icon a millisecond later due to an animation more than they will appreciate the novelty of actually having the animation there in the first place. It enhances the user experience for the VAST MAJORITY of the users. Just because you don't like it doesn't make it wrong.

I have to respectfully disagree with you, at least in part. I love the animations. I think they're very pretty. But we do need to be able to interrupt them. I find that I am constantly making false swipes that don't take because I jumped the gun on the animation. When you do that several times a day, day after day, and week after week, it becomes annoying. The more it happens, the more annoying it becomes.

They need to fix this. When I swipe on the screen, I want it to do something, even if it was in the middle of its pretty transition animation at the time.

You need to adjust your driving...This isn't a sports car, it's a luxury car now .

In other words, "You're swiping it wrong?" No, I don't accept that. Being unresponsive and slow is not a premium feature, it's a defect. Honestly, I expect better from Apple.

Got the GM from a third party website the other night. I love iOS 7 but I think they should have dropped support for the iPhone 4. No transparency and the animations can be jumpy at some times.

When has an x.0 release of iOS ever been perfect?

...

...

*crickets*

...

Yeah, that's what I thought.

I don't know why there is so much more bitching than usual this time. But I've never come across a x.0 release that doesn't have a few minor problems. If you don't want to deal with them, DON'T UPGRADE TO A NEW MAJOR RELEASE UNTIL x.1 or x.2 COMES OUT!

This should be common sense, but... oh yeah, this is Macrumors. If ya'll were paid to whine you'd be millionaires.
When has a X.1 or X.2 been perfect? Same thing applies to those as well, or really to any version.

So because it doesnt meet YOUR "needs", then it is a defect? Its a design that im sure 99.999% of users will be happy with.

Now, its inability to making toast, I am bummed about.

It can be better...and for people like you, Apple is introducing the 5S with a 64-bit A7 processor...get out your credit card...:D
If only that would mean that the animations would somehow have their duration changed...except that it won't. Perhaps animations would be even more smooth, but they will still be there taking up the same amount of time because they've been designed to be longer in iOS 7, mostly for aesthetics and nothing else (form over function basically).

Whether or not that actually gets in the way of something or significantly degrades the experience is more subjective, but the fact that they are are longer in duration now isn't. The fact that they can't be interrupted is also not subjective either.

And despite the likely possibility that most won't care (although I would argue that quite a few of those coming from iOS 6 and earlier versions will notice it, even if quite a few of them won't really care or care enough), it doesn't mean that it's actually a good design from usability and productivity point of view, even if it might be "good" from pure aesthetics point of view of making it eye-candy in some way.

They only want you to get a newer iPhone. Apple is known not to care for older products. Go to Apple.com, try to find something about the iPhone 5, it's like it never existed.

Pretty much everything that applies to iPhone 5C applies to iPhone 5, so there's that.

Remember how awesome they made the IP5 out to be last year? LOL.

I dont see how much better they can make the 5s now that I have moved from the 4s to the 5. The 5 is very fast and fluid for the things I do...

I guess it will render maps faster and play games better...Other than that?

Come on, seriously... it's a .0 release....

 No?

Not only is it a .0 release, but it's one that would have been forced by the need to have it ready for the launch of the 5S/5C. The devs would have had to make a call on what to fix and what could be fixed in time for the GM to be deployed onto the new phones. There will be a long list of bugs that they'll know about but weren't deemed show stoppers.

So because it doesnt meet YOUR "needs", then it is a defect?

No, it's a defect because the touch screen sometimes doesn't register my inputs. That should not happen just because an eye-candy animation is running.

For the record, I like the animations, and I don't care how long they take. I just want to be able to interrupt them.

Its a design that im sure 99.999% of users will be happy with.

I seriously doubt that. I've never met the user who's happy when his phone ignores his inputs.

Now, its inability to making toast, I am bummed about.

The 5S can make toast. You should upgrade.

Well I'll be first in line for a 5s anyway, but the iPhone 4 is seriously dated now. Almost in the realm of the 3GS.

Where are all the internet janitors who used to insist in threads to not talk about bugs because 'it's a beta'....
well it's the GM now and what?? you still can't swipe until after the animations are done???

I'm not sure that's a bug. That may just be the way Apple designed it. In a way it makes sense to let the animations finish (so long as they aren't long and arduous) before you can swipe.

Are you talking about the unlock and quickly swipe technique? I seem to remember someone posted a video of that on here. Well I'm getting that effect on my iPhone 5 running iOS 6. It may not be quite as long as iOS 7 (I'll find out on Wednesday!) , but I get get 3 full (nonresponsive) swipes after unlocking before the screen is functional.

Yes. I also had this delay on ios6. It's not just ios7. People need to chill.

Its still Beta people, dont you understand what Beta means? Apple will iron out all these issues once beta phase is complete. Stop nagging, just watch the performance once GM is released.

Oh mother of lord...we are talking about the GM!!!

I got some small things to say, we all know that most probably the GM is going to be the public release, thats fine but you people keep saying its a .0 release thats fine too, the thing is you dont see iOS 5.0 or ios 6.0 being slow on either of the supported devices it has not even the 3GS, iOS 6 on the 3GS runs pretty decent. But iOS 7 on the iPhone 4 runs like crap pure crap, if your going to support a device at least consider that there like a million ppl who still use that phone and consider that Apple is still selling that iPhone in china, if customers bought that device in China and found out that it lags like hell they wouldnt call the 4 the cheap iPhone anymore they might then consider the 4S or others but the others are more expensive.

GM is supposed to indicate the final release. The only difference is in the timing... GM is released to developers in advance of the public release to ensure all the updates to their apps can be done, without further changes done to the OS.

It isn't "still in beta" just because it hasn't been released yet.

He was making a joke.. talking about it as if it was a beta and then in the last line realising it was a GM. sorry to explain the joke :p
