Alright, I don't mean to be mean, but I'm really growing weary of all you people whining about the color/design of the iTunes 7.0 icon. Seriously, not only is it just an icon, but it can easily be changed!

I'll even tell you how...

<snip>

That should do it. Now you have a different icon for iTunes. No need to whine to the forums. If iTunes is updated, the icon may revert, but you can simply redo this process.

There's another way, too. It's a little more technical, but, in my experience, it works much better than using the Get Info command.

1. Get or create a new icon (a .icns file). You can create a new icon from any artwork using Icon Composer which is part of the Developer Tools from Apple. It generally works best if your original artwork is square (so it doesn't get distorted when scaled to be an icon), larger than 128x128 (so the largest icon size doesn't look pixelated), and is in a format that has transparency such as .png (so your final icon isn't just a square). Save your new (found or composed) icon with the file name iTunes.icns.

2. Open the Applications folder and right-click (or control-click, or highlight then click the sprocket button in the window) on iTunes. Pull down to "Show Package Contents" and select it.

3. In the new window that opens up, open Contents, then open Resources.

4. If you want to save the original iTunes icon, find it in this folder and rename it to something like iTunes-old.icns. Then drag your new icon into this folder.

Done! When you launch iTunes again, the icon in the Dock will automatically update.

Here's my iTunes icon:

For folks asking about downloading album artwork, I recommend using gimmesometune (look it up on versiontracker). iTunes lacks big time in the rock/heavy metal department and most of the time the built-in album artwork finder fails to find any covers for my music. so....give gimmesometune a shot.

Transcoding feature..

I really want a Transcoding feature... :(

Keep library in Apple Lossless format, set option for your iPod to Sync at xyz format and it takes care of it. Right now I have my library in Apple Lossless and I have to rip, re-code to AAC, copy to iPod, delete. A bit of a pain....*crosses fingers for 7.1 feature*

Strangely enough, iTunes already supports this, but only for iPod shuffles... I too wish iTunes supported this for all iPods.

Shuffle still seems weird...

I don't like the new way shuffle has been working since 7.0, where if you set it to display 0 upcoming songs, it stops when just one song has played. It used to advance. I was hoping it was just a bug, but after a couple of updates, it seems that that is how they want it to work.
Btw, my store turned german before the update notice came through. Of course it won't let you download anything from germany.

And with a setting for each iPod too (and not iPod models/capacities only), i.e. my 4GB iPod nano at 128kbps/AAC, another 4GB iPod nano at VBR256kbps/MP3, etc. What makes the shuffle so special? Maybe it's simply a hidden file or something... could we just copy/make that file and put it on other iPods?

Yeah, I had considered telling them that way as well, but anyone slow-witted enough to complain about an app's icon color in a discussion forum is probably too ignorant to be allowed to be messing around with "showing package contents" where some real damage could be done.

At least with my way, if they need to change things back, all they have to do is Get Info -> highlight icon -> Command+X (cut). No chance of causing permanent damage.

They could also download a utility like CandyBar ( http://www.panic.com/candybar/ ) to do the work for them.

Either way, they get the same results; changed icon. Me? I'm a purist; I prefer the icon as Apple intended. ;-)

I like this multipod concept a lot!!!

Apparently, I am now German.... Wo ist das Hasselhoff??!!!!!!!!!

Hillarious!!! Is David one of the featured artists? His video's a such a guilty pleasure... :D

Thank you, Apple, for releasing this "small" update. I have seen great performance gains on my ThinkPad T43 2 GHz. Scrolling is greatly improved as well as cover flow view. It is starting to remind of the good old day of iTunes 6.

The bottom line is...Apple really dropped the ball with this release. I wonder if it got shoved out the door before it was really done. They gave us cool features (that I rarely use) and took away performance. I used to leave iTunes open at ALL times, but I know longer have faith in the program cause it makes my system unstable (on Windows). Hopefully with more releases like this, my faith will return.

And what's with the ugly, pixelated installer screen? That's so NOT Apple. It looks more like a spyware program posing as iTunes. Sick! Come on, Apple!

i'm still having the audio quality problems with my mac pro and creature II speakers.

You don't need to re-rip a cd to convert from Apple Lossless to ACC for your iPod. Set your import preferences to AAC, select the track, go to menu >Advanced >Convert Selection to AAC. It will make a duplicate in AAC. Copy that to your pod and delete it in itunes. Since the original is Apple Lossless, there should be no difference from the cd version. Not the perfect solution, but saves you a trip to the cd cabinet.

That works, sure, but it doesn't auto-update and auto-sync play counts and stuff like that. What I want is a feature that automates this conversion and syncing process. Yes, there are AppleScripts that do this task for you, but they are slow.

Did the update and try to access iTunes, but it took me to the Japan iTunes store. Fixed it by logging in and it said my account is valid for US store only. Happen to anyone else?

Read the thread! At least a little. This has been one of the major discussion points. This has nothing to do with the update, but something to do with Apple tweaking the store, as it's happened to people who haven't updated yet. You can also fix this by simply scrolling to the bottom of the iTS front page where there's a pop-up menu to allow you to choose which country's store you want to view.

Sorry didn't have time to read all 6 pages about people worried about a icon.

still not 100%

in itunes 7.01 I could manage to sync my contacts, calenders, photos, & movies with my ipod but for some reason the window would freeze every time I tried to sync my music.
Now it seems I can sync my playlists but only the playlists that go up to the letter M. I don't even get to see any playlists further down the list.
Very weird and frustrating....

I realize that reading everything can be a bit daunting. My point was that this very issue was included in the discussion in the last ten posts before yours (post #141). Post 131:

anyone switch languages in the store?
Apparently, I am now German.... Wo ist das Hasselhoff??!!!!!!!!!

That alone would have answered your question about others seeing the country change in the store. You could have then asked "How many are seeing this" rather than "Is anyone else seeing this".

Sorry if I came across a little harsh.

Actually, Version 7.0.2 is improved in certain areas of performance. Note that when Itunes browses the CD Covers, it loads every CD Cover into the RAM. That's why it hogs so much memory. In 7.0.1 and earlier, when closing the artwork browser, the memory allocated was still there, even if you didn't need it!

That's fixed in 7.0.2 and thats a very big improvement.

Ok, BIG problem.

I installed the itunes update last night, everything went swimmingly. It looked at my library, something I hadn't seen before, but nothing changed and I went back to playing my music.

I shut down my Macbook last night as the battery was down to 1% and my power cord was elsewhere, and I was oh-so tired. This morning I plug it in, turn it on, open itunes, and it is completely empty! No playlists I have made, no music in the Library, nothing. Nothing at all.

In music, the 'itunes music' folder is also completely empty. What is going on? Nothing is in the trash either. This must have happened as a result of the update, and me subsequently shutting down (about 2 hours AFTER the update).

Please please help, I have lots of music that would be nigh-on impossible to get back.

Thankyou.
