Stop whining & do something about it...

Alright, I don't mean to be mean, but I'm really growing weary of all you people whining about the color/design of the iTunes 7.0 icon. Seriously, not only is it just an icon, but it can easily be changed!

I'll even tell you how...

First, find an icon you'd like to use instead. www.xicons.com has thousands to choose from & download for free.

Once you download the icon you want to use, click it once to highlight it, then hit Command+I (get info)

At the top of the icon's Get Info dialog box, click the desired icon to highlight it, then hit Command+C (cut)

In the Applications folder, click the iTunes app once (to highlight it) then hit Command+I (get info)

At the top of the iTunes Get Info dialog box, click the undesired icon to highlight it, then hit Command+V (paste)

The new desired icon should replace the undesired one for iTunes. You'll have to replace the icon in the Dock by dragging the old icon off & the new one on.

That should do it. Now you have a different icon for iTunes. No need to whine to the forums. If iTunes is updated, the icon may revert, but you can simply redo this process.

How to do you get the covers? Any software available?

iTunes can do it for you, under the Advanced menu is the option "Get Album Artwork."

If iTunes can't find the artwork, my best recommendation is to go to http://www.allmusic.com/ and do a search for the album, then you can easily drag their album art directly from your browser into the iTunes artwork box in the lower left corner (while you have the album's songs highlighted).

Anyone noticed stability improvements??

I had MAJOR problems with 7.0.1 where it would crash when changing from one song to the next especially when playing the results of a search. It was just hopeless, in the end I went back to 6.

Has the new version crashed on anyone yet?

I love the people complaining about the blue icon. They're just showing they're Mac/iTunes newbies—they don't remember when it wasn't green. So cute.

New speed improvements

Well I'm certainly noticing a much smoother and faster coverflow that doesn't seem to bog down my computer as much. This is on an iBook G4

Coverflow now works like a dream on both my Macs. You have to wonder how rushed iTunes 7 was.

Slightly OT; does anyone know where Movie Trailers went on the UK store?

Found it. For some reason -- pretty sure this wasn't there before -- there's a pull-down menu on the front page of the store to select the country for my iTunes store. Is that a bug? I changed it to US, and it's fine, but aren't the licensing issues here? Seems like a bug...

That's been there for quite awhile, possibly as long as there have been stores other than the US one. I can't remember. It just isn't that noticeable because it's way down at the bottom of the page. I rarely scroll down that far, myself.

Oh, and mine came up as the French store, for the record.

me too!

After the update, my iTunes took me to the German store. It's a pretty funny quirk.

Same for me!!! Very nice. Now I just need to get the artwork for the 50+ albums that I don't have it for yet (I hate scanning them in... but the online ones I find are cruddy JPEGs).

I've found some good quality JPEG's on Amazon's site. Once you find the CD you're looking for - usually if you click on the cover art on Amazon it will give you a higher rez version in a new window that has worked very well for most of mine. You may have to crop it in Preview or something as some have a white border around them - but it's easy enough to do.

One thing that I don't like about Cover Flow that still hasn't been addressed is how it has to load up all the art before it will flow without being choppy. This means I have to slowly go through and look at all the artwork, and then I can do it fast no problem.
When I quit and open iTunes again, then it all has to reload. Can't they just just cache it?

Yeah -- I was quite bummed last night when I rushed home to download the new iTunes after hearing great things about improved CoverFlow, only to notice the art was still loading slow to me. :(

For various reasons, I don't always keep my iTunes open all the time -- so the thought of having to go through my entire library of covers (which is big) each time in order for it to flow smoothly is kind of a drag.

Album Covers

I also use Amazon/CD Now for covers that iTunes is missing. My problem is that no one must have the Pottery Barn/Banana Republic/Coffee shop...etc collections. I find I have to scan those suckers myself. Also, I liked the purple note Icon myself.

Haven't read all the comments yet, but:

I hope it solves iTunes completely and totally borking my machine. Streaming audio would result in a complete system lockup. Holding the power button for five seconds is the only cure. As a result, even though I like the way it looks/behaves muuuuch better than 6, I haven't used it much.

I didn't read through all the posts here yet, but just my two cents on this update. Not only does CoverFlow seem dramatically improved in iTunes, but much more importantly my iPod is running much faster and without incident. I, like many people, noticed that my new 5.5G iPod was a bit jumpy in the scrolling process, some unnecessary lag time between tracks, etc. After this update, my iPod is noticeably quicker and smoother.

iTunes 7 for FreeBSD

Hmmm... strange. Just synced my FreeBSD ports collection, but iTunes 7.0.2 still doesn't appear.

Hey, Apple, hurry up! I need iTunes on FreeBSD just now! :p

Just to repeat, for the record, this quirk has nothing to do with the update. Something funny's going on at the store. I haven't updated yet, but the store has sent me to other countries.
