[*]No way of selecting the album you're viewing with a quick click, like the arrow on the regular iTunes interface that quickly takes you to the item you're playing. This would be nice to have in case you start wandering around (and you will) and would like to quickly get back to the album you're playing. You'd have to wait a few seconds (about 10-15) for it to automatically reset back to the item you're playing.

this feature does exist!!! cmd+L for mac and ctrl+l for pc

what i'd like to see is the "flip cd case over" feature to see the songs on that album to play...but coverflow is much better (display quality and speed) with the update

Coverview with iPod?

Is this new update supposed to transfer the coverview to the iPod?
I thought I read a rumor a few days ago where the Menu in the iPod would give the option to used the coverflow with the clickwhee...

Fullscreen CoverFlow seems like a nice idea, but:

a) the scroll-bar is blurred for me, both in normal and in fullscreen. I can actually fix it in normal by resizing the CF window, but seeing as how there's not that option in fullscreen
b) I, too, am annoyed that it blacks out the main monitor. Obviously I want to still be able to use my MacBook while showing off fancy eyecandy! :D
c) I wish that the iPhone style CoverFlow album turn existed (that you can select individual songs by "flipping" the cover). More importantly, though, I wish that you select just that album. So that, when it's done, iTunes doesn't just carry on playing through the rest of your library. I mean, Jukeboxes never did that .

Other than these little issues, looks good.

No. And there will be no CowerFlow in 5G iPod.

What you say is true, and I will definitely try using more smart playlists... but it seems like there should be a more elegant solution. I understand the library would be longer, but in my example... the artists I listed currently take up 6 separate artist fields, when they should only take up 3, with multiple artist tags. I'd be willing to trade a longer library list in order to find what songs I want under each artist's name.

There's an even easier solution: you could have the main "Artist" tag, but then a less-important secondary artist tags. That way, when looking at All Songs the list is shorter because it only puts it with the main artist. But when browsing by artist, you can choose either.

Quicktime

On a Quicktime note, I've just nototiced the new 'export to Apple TV' option. I've just run a quick piece of 1080i footage from a Sony HDV cam to Apple TV and the result was surprisingly good. Instant interlaced to progressive, H264 around 5 mbits per second, in glorious 720p (1280x720). The only thing is that it's a bit slow, but it's a nice one click solution. :)

Quicktime Error

Anyone getting an error while trying to update quicktime?

I hope its not just me.

Blurry scroll bar

The scroll bars on coverflow are still blurry on my macbook. I had hoped that 7.1 would correct this issue :( Back to 6.0.5 just now then.

But only if both

1) The album is available on the iTunes music store and,
2) you have an account on the iTune store

I have many albums that are not available on iTunes store. For those I've found many on Amazon or some other on-line retailer of physical CDs. Worst case is that I had to scan the CD insert.

Sorry, I meant degree celcius in my post~
So any PowerBook or other MacBook/MacBook Pro owners got the same problem? Or is this just some exceptional case?
Maybe that's common in MB/MBP, but running iTunes push the temp from 28 to 55!?

I wish my PB ran at 28, my MBP is at 61C and thats a good reading:eek:

iTunes update not working?!

I've never had any problems with updating iTunes on my iBook before but now when I load it up it just does the updating library thing, gets close to the end of the progress bar and then freezes. It also places exclamation marks by a couple of tracks that are clearly not missing or moved from their library location. It's very annoying as now I can't listen to my music and I can't find a download for 7.0.2.

Edit: Seems to have finally sorted itself out now

Missed the last 100 or so posts. Forgive any reposting(s).

For posterity: Earlier, I read that some users were experiencing weird screen draws with full screen cover flow. Once home, I updated my wife's G3 iBook 500 (latest OS) and noticed something interesting... iTunes could only draw album art that was purchased through the iTunes Store. Any other art I pilfered (via Amazon, say) would not display.

Huh.

Sure, that 'Book's long in the tooth and full screen cover flow troubles were completely expected. Still, interesting the only art that would display was from iTunes Store purchases.

Anyone know the specs on images sizes (file type, res, etc.) that Apple uses or where iTunes Store album art is stored so I can look myself?

Thanks,
Scott

* Oh, FWIW, my work Mac (last dual PowerMac before Intel switch, latest OS) LOVES full screen Cover Flow.

If it's any consolation, I have the same thing with my G3 500 iBook. The graphics are just not up to the requirements of Cover Flow. It's not only the purchased album art, I can get others as well but the majority are a duplicated screen print (ie rubbish and distorted). However, there is a redeeming feature in that if you switch to "grouped with artwork" all the artwork appears to be there, albeit in a list formation.

:( Hmm Getting the same diagonal lines weirdness here in fullscreen coverflow mode:

mac mini 1.5Ghz G4, 1GB RAM, 64MB ATI Radeon 9200 Graphics memory.

Nice and smooth, just the weird lines.

Anyone else? Is this somethng which I can expect to stay?

Thanks

I'm saying that I told you so

Last week, I said that one of two probable reasons for the Apple TV delay was that the iTunes update was not ready. I still think that I was correct. Apple needed to have 7.1 out here fo a while before releasing Apple Tv. Could you imagine the mess if out in the field, incompatibilities showed up with both iTunes and Applke TV!!

I'm surprised that people with Macbook Pros are having trouble running this smoothly. My macbook does it just fine with 1GB of RAM. If my television supported an ATV I probably would've purchased one...but why not let all the early adopters have all the fun first. :D

Mac mini 1.42 G4, 1GB Ram, 32 MB ATI 9200...

best ever, very smooth and fast and NO weird lines

New Export to Apple TV

Sorry if this has already been reported ...

New Quicktime Pro App:

Just opened some 1920 x 1080i HD video footage and selected the new Export to Apple TV option (Default setting).

To my delight the result was superb. The size was 960 x 540.

I exported a 640 x 480 NTSC file too and that was retained at that size. It seems the Export option has built in intelligence and isn't just a dumb preset. More tests to do but so far ... way to go Apple :)

Just did one more test. The format created by Export to Apple TV is not supported by Apple's QT Streaming Server. Server reported is "Unsupported media type" . Standard Fast Start works but data-rate too high.

Was your content 30fps, I suppose?

It seems that this export option is pretty smart about sizing. Since the max is 720p @ 24fps, it seems to automatically shrink the size so that it doesn't have to change the framerate. So 540p is max for NTSC content, 576p is max for PAL content, and 720p is max for NTSC FILM.

I like the full screen coverflow, looks pretty sweet. Not sure if I will really use it at all but it does look good.
