I usually put the featured artist(s) into the Name field. (E.g. "Crazy In Love (featuring Jay-Z)"). But this is just another workaround to not be able to specify multiple artists.

Well, the album artist field works well enough I think but it not being used by the browser just pisses me off. Why offer it at all if some parts of iTunes still use the regular artist tag?

Apple finally fixed the scrollbar issue in iTunes! :D The new fullscreen Cover Flow is nice. I don't know how often I would use it, but it's definitely good for show off purposes. :p

Looks like I can set how iTunes finds my artists and songs, so like the aforementioned Beatles, I can just type "BEATLES" and it will go there, instead of having to type "THE BEATLES", which iTunes did before, but now you can adjust perosnally for not only artist names but songs names and more.

That's weird. iTunes has always ignored "the" for me. "The Beatles" would appear in the same place alphabetically that just "Beatles" would on my library. That's one of the things I like most about iTunes.

I love all these new sorting options. Funny, just the other day I was wondering how I could start a grouping for all songs from Anime soundtracks when I was already using the grouping option to keep all songs from a single series together. Now I can just associate the songs with the Show blank.

As I had previously posted, using the export to Apple TV option in Quicktime pro using HDV 1080i source, produces a 720p video. That is not 960x540 but 1280 x 720 (720p). Not quite sure why you got the odd size.

Well I did ... and all I did was select the default. It is not an odd size, it is half of 1080i linearly measured or 25% of 1080i in area. It is indeed still interlaced. However I wonder why you got 720 from the same source material using the same export? Very odd!

I was only using QT Player. I will go and fiddle with FCPro and Compressor now.

It's very possible the original file wasn't recorded from a HD content AS HD content. For example I have HD Cable.I use an Elgato box that does not have HDMI or Component inputs so while the recording may be 720 in dimension it is not Progressive scan or true HD output.
Thus the odd sizes.

This post may provide the answer.

Yes, I know 540 is half 1080i linearly. I meant odd in that Quicktime Pro should encode to 720p using the Apple TV preset (being the maximum size supported) when using an HD source. I have since encoded several more clips from my Sony HD camcorder (1080i source) and all have turned out 1280x720 progressive. The deinterlacing definitely worked and although it's not as good as Compressor's field method, it wasn't bad for the little pro app.

Damn this is odd! I have tried several source clips of 1080i (shot with Sony FX1 and captured via FVPro HD 5.1.4) and using Apple TV export from QT Player 7.1.5. I get 920 x 540 interlaced every time. There is no way to change the default on my QT app, is there on yours?

iTunes stores all content, including video, in the iTunes Music folder.
Your movies would be stored on the FW drive with the music.

I would like to see an option in iTunes to allow you to split that into multiple locations, or keep it the same if you like.
I've always thought that video content should be in the "Movies" folder, anyway.
I guess there are some benefits to keeping it all in the same place, too.

I'm currently using a 500GB FW drive for my iTunes Music folder.
118GB is Music, Podcasts, and Audiobooks.
187GB is Movies and TV Shows.

The video adds up quickly whereas the audio slowly but surely increases.
I could get away with a 200GB drive for Music for quite some time to come, but I could see Video filling up the 500GB by itself in the near future.

Others results may vary, of course.

I guess you could uncheck "Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library", but that could get really messy.

TY for clearing that up for me juniormaj ,iagree with you on wanna be able to put the movies in a/the movies folder that is on a seperate drive since video takes up far more space then audio, but for now i guess its saving up money for a bigger drive, with all the movies coming ;-).

I assume that file won't play on iPods? That sounds very cool, but I'm not sure what the solution is for those who own both aTV and iPod. It would be a pain to have to store two versions of everything.

I am very interested in this too. How is Apple going to handle this? If they start selling 720p movies, do I have to buy a 720p and a 480p? Or are they going to make me do the conversion?

I can't find any options for the Apple TV export, even in the Pro version.

Maybe QuickTime is not able to determine if your source is interlaced so it does not apply a deinterlace filter. What format is your source in? DV?

Come to think of it............... yes you do ;)

Just wait a couple more weeks before you start to encode for Apple TV. Handbrake, MPEG Streamclip, etc., will (if they can't already) encode video for the Apple TV so you don't have to ever use QT.

This update screwed up Party Shuffle. Before, if you set it to "Display 0 upcoming songs", it would stop playing at the end of the list. Now it when it reaches the end, it randomly chooses one extra song and keeps playing indefinitely. That's not what I want. Now I have to use a regular playlist, which would be fine except there is dedicated "Play Next in [playlist X]" option; that only exists for Party Shuffle. Jeez, do I have to go back to Winamp to get sane playback options now!?

No! This is GREAT. That's how it used to work when they first added Party Shuffle, then in iTunes 7 they changed it. I had left mine set to 0 upcoming songs so if I manually dragged tracks over they were the next ones to play. But after iTunes 7, I either had to leave it on 0 and it would stop after reaching the bottom of the list, or I had to remove five randomly chosen ones queued up to play next before I could hear mine.

This really fits in better with the named purpose. Not to be too corny here, but the idea is to "keep the party going". :D

Actually refute my statement. The best source of album art is.....Google Images. I've ust replace all the crap ones and even the good ones i thought were good.

Anyone else having problems?

On 10.3.9 since installing the updates my Full Tilt Poker client won't run, and there is at least one other person having the same problem (thread going on the forums over there).

Additionally, I see on Apple discussions that some 10.3.9 users are having TurboTax problems since the update.

Very troubling.

I'm bummed... no multiple artist or genre tags :(

I need an easier way to sort all my jazz music, Apple!!! It gets really frustrating when you have so many duets and trios... For example, I have:

"Duke Ellington"
"Duke Ellington and Ella Fitzgerald"
"Duke Ellington and Louis Armstrong"
"Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong"
"Ella Fitzgerald"
"Louis Armstrong"

Its so hard to remember which artist to look under... If Apple made it possible to have multiple artist tags, these songs could be found under any of the 3 artists names! It would make my library so much more organized.

Or, you could just type the name of the artist you're looking for in the Search Box, thereby pulling up ALL the tracks with the artist's name on them, regardless of whether you listed both artists in the Artist field, or gave one Artist primary billing and listed the other as a "featuring..." on the Track field.

Unchecking the "copy to iTunes" option (as you mentioned) would be the first move to make. Also uncheck the "keep folders organized" box. Then keep the movies on your separate folder/drive. You would add new features to the appropriate drive before dragging them to iTunes to add them to your library listings.

Also, you don't have to use the folder that Apple sets up as the storage location. I have mine using the root level of my "My Music" folder (I'm on XP) So when I open the folder I get all the individual artist folders inside. This also helps when you use multiple jukebox softwares with the same library.

You really should upgrade to Tiger.

Not DV, HDV from Sony FX1 which captures as 1080i. What is your source? Maybe yours is already progressive?

My source is virtually identical to yours, a Sony FX-7. I have also tried using our little HC3 we use for travelling with the same 720p result.

Source files are in a mov container using the Apple HDV 1080i50 codec and straight off the camera. Quicktime Info shows the Normal size AND Current size to be 1920 x 1080. There are 2 interlaced fields in the source but a single field with 25 fps in the Apple TV conversions.

I believe it is dependent on what size the file is currently opened at! I exported the Spiderman 3 movie to Apple TV format and at first it was 960 x 456. But I had the file set to "View > Half Size". Once I set it back to Actual Size the export became 1280 x 608. (The original was 1920 x 912).

In my tests using only QT Player Pro I always had my 1920 x 1080 HD source media open full size and the default export to Apple TV produces 960 x 540 interlaced at 29.97 f.p.s. every time.

I have not managed to repeat the results reported here of obtaining 720p from 1080i using the default export.

Any one else been able to determine the default nature of the beast - Obviously with QT Player at full size.
