Even though iTunes says that 5g ipods are up to date software version 1.2 is in there...

You must restore the ipod and it will restore using software update 1.2

note that this does NOT give search function, but it does provide compatability for games and the newly released 640x480 movies/videos

RobP

False: No need to restore

This is something separate.

Albums become automatically gapless if iTunes judges they should be (I guess it looks at silences in the files). That option in get info/properties to make the album lossless is for if you are using crossfade, to make iTunes not crossfade those tracks.

I saw a knowledge base article on this.
There's not been an article today (after version 7 came out). And the Gapless Album tag in the iTunes song info window is brand new. Not seen before version 7.

There was an old "workaround" trick to get sort of gapless playback, by setting crossfade to 0 seconds, like you describe, a trick I myself used, but that has apparently nothing to do with the new Gapless Album feature...

Where is the visualizer button. It's gone!
It's moved into the View menu, along with the Equalizer, among others...

I dont know what the deal is, most of my Art-Work is still not showing up. All music that iTunes has but I just got from my CD's.

It also does this thing of for example, Soundtrack from "Miami Vice" will show up under like 5 different things in a row, but their all under the album "Miami Vice" and grouping "Miami Vice" and will be under the Genre "soundtrack" so under regular view, all my albums are perfect but with artwork added, it suddenly seperates them. Any solutions? I have an iTunes account and ive signed up and its added some but missed most. Like Kill Bill Volume 1 was in like 4 segments.

Highlighting them and going under Compilation works for some but still wont bunch all of them under 1 album for some.

You can select all the albums, get info for all of them (if you select all your songs and hit Command I it will bring up one dialog to change them all) and erase the artwork and then have iTunes find it (or do it by album or track). It will not find new artwork unless its empty first.

Gapless appears to not crossfade but rather tell the player that there is no gap between that song and the next.

Thanks for the tip on the album art.

On the gapless, how does it choose which songs get gapless? Does it do all the songs automatically, or does this analysis procedure compare the files, or is it by song/album selection??

Ok, officially voting this worst itunes update ever. I want my visualizer button back. I used that all the time. Kids love it. Now I have to go to a menu or do a keyboard shortcut. Plus I loved that burn to disc icon in the upper right corner. That thing was COOL!

OK so...

You are right the Amazon UI sucks but Amazon did one thing that is very important to me. They offered rentals. I would much rather rent a movie for $3.99 from the Amazon store than buy a movie for $14.99 from the Apple one. If I want to watch it more than once Ill go get the DVD for less with all of the nice casing and extra features. I'm not really sure who in their right mind would pay these prices for content without physical media and I can't see people ripping all of their DVDs into iTunes either so it seems to me that this feature is dead in the water and so is the streaming media device. On-Demand from Verizon Fios if you have it in your area has this beat hands down. So does Netflix, Amazon, the video stores and buying the actual DVD from Walmart or Bestbuy for that matter IMO...

OK... so don't use it... that is the great thing about capitalism ... vote with your money... Some of us however see it as just what we have been looking for ... I have a room... I do mean room ... with walls full of DVDs... that can finally come to an end... I love my iTV...:)

Oh wow I just found my favorite feature ever that I was wanting for years, Artist by album.:)

gaa - HELP!!!!!!

The new iTunes won't let me keep my shuffle in the source list?!?!!? How the heck am I supposed to add things to the list for future update if it's not there?????? Please help!!!!!

Does iTunes automatically start detecting for gapless songs? I only have one album that would play gapless (bought from iTMS), and it was not automatically detected.

I changed the gapless settings manually for that album and now it plays gapless in iTunes, but not my iPod. Do older iPods (a 1G iPod Nano to be specific) support gapless playback?

An absolutely disgusting iTunes update!

Cover Flow adds nothing. It looks good for a second, but has zero functionality the way Apple implemented it.

I love Apple and I know most people voting Positive for this are Apple faithfuls too, but this is a piece of trash, as was most of todays events. Windows Media Center is years ahead of this.

Today's highlights: iPod nano, basically reverting back to the mini.
Second: iPod Shuffle: Nicely done

But that is it and this Special Media Event was a major disappointment!

At least we didn't hear about the iPod Hi-Fi!

Not sure about older iPods haven't tried it yet with mine.

Oh please you mean seemless tracks means nothing?

This is a great update if you get past the looks.

Look at the jaggies on the itunes 7 icon when you apple-tab. Bleah. Did they switch graphic designers or what?

My wife would be great too, if she didn't look like a dog! And she is gapless too, but that isn't anything special. iTunes 7 is a huge disappointment. Windows users won't even notice though, because of their low standards.

Enhanced podcast chapters button is gone in iTunes 7

Has anyone seen the enhanced podcast chapters button in iTunes 7? The new "views" buttons are right where the chapters button used to be and I can't find the chapters button anywhere. One of the reasons I liked enhnaced podcasts was that you could skip to a specific chapter (that's also the idea behind the chapter tool in GaragaBand 3, is it not?).

I still don't get the big deal, besides the note color change I don't see a difference.

Found chapters in the iTunes 7 menu bar

Nevermind. I found it in the menu bar now. Man, you get used to a thing in one place and then they move it on you.

I wonder if iTunes 7 was a rush job to meet a deadline for the release of the new iPods. Maybe they'll refine the ui in a few weeks for 7.1.

The button is now at the bottom (next to the eject button). Select a playlist and it appears.

lol true but i did love the disc

These boards crack me up. Everytime there is a new major version of iTunes, there are cries of "ugh! It looks ugly! I want to go back to Version X" Let's forget the fact that everyone thought Version X looked ugly too...

For me, I like the new UI. There are some odd things, like moving the "eye" button to the bottom, and removing the visualizer button (this especially doesn't make any sense). However, I think it's a great update--gapless playback is something people have been clamoring for forever, and the new backup feature is good, too.

As for the Icon....Sheesh...you people are WAY too picky!

I do miss the old Radioactive Disc Burning Icon, though.

The biggest issue for me: STILL appears to be no support for subtitles and/or Closed Captions on downloaded video. I WILL NOT buy any movies until you can do so (Maybe with Leopard?). As a Hearing impaired user, I have been very angry with Apple for neglecting this issue for so long...

I have at least 300 DVDs (many of them purchased for $5) but the point is that I would have to rent those DVDs about four times each from the Amazon store before buying them from the iTMS would be a better economically. I just don't see the point in owning the media if you can rent them on demand anytime. Unfortunately, Apple doesn't agree with my vision but I think that some other company will and could surpass Apple as the top online video content distributor. Of course, all this may be moot as the cable/phone companies are already gearing up to provide instant content on demand with their subscriptions. See Verizon and Comcast for details...
