He-he... I'm testing "The Wall", too... :)

Did the "Gapless Determination" detect your The Wall album or did you, like me, have to set the Gapless Album tag yourself...?
It detected on its own.

Looks really hot BUT where is EQ?, i live by this thing, now i can no longer find it. Whats up?
It's listed under "view"

So the 60% brighter display is just a software update?

OK, so there are no added features, just minor things like tweaked display and battery. All the new functionality is just new software and available to the other 5G ipods. Is that better?

Gapless playback is a software update ????

I believe so. I think someone has already posted that they tried it on their 5G and it worked.

Eq???

what happened to the EQ???
oh i found it... under view and no more key command. why does my visualizer suck now. it's all glitchy. i have 256MB video ram on a dual g5. it used to haul butt.

Yikes!

Don't like that electric blue note icon at all - reminds me of the Manchester City strip from a couple of years back before we reverted to sky blue. But maybe it will look better on the super screen of my MB... WHEN IT ARRIVES! I ORDERED IT A MONTH AGO APPLE, AND IT STILL ISN'T HERE!

Can someone please confirm: is the search function available for the new iPods only or available as a software update for older 5G iPods??

i was hoping with the seperate media libraries that u could have more then one music library.

oh well, one day they will let laptop users have more then one library without having to login as a different user.

Wow! Looks pretty sweet! How long did it take to go through your library and determine the songs for 'gapless' playback?

Havent installed just yet :)

Did the Apple engineers forget to add a music video icon on the left side of iTunes 7? Everthing else is there except music video.

This is exactly what I'm trying to figure out: how to find the music videos I've downloaded. Ones that came with an album purchase (as a bonus) are in "Movies". Ones I downloaded separately are just mixed in with "Music" and not distinguished except by the little TV icon.

I'm not sure how one would quickly find their music videos except for manually looking for each one and creating their own playlist with just music videos. Is there a better way?

Well, I love iTunes 7

Fantastic

the get album art is SICK

the album scroll view is SICK

the gapless playback is well you get the idea!

I love it!

Just put it on my PC at work, and it's awesome

I'm a little concerned about putting it on my Mac at home because of the massive 140 gig library that it will have to process...

Hopefully it goes well,

Shared libraries don't do the coverflow thing I'm pretty sure. It sorta makes sense, as itunes would have to absolutely hammer the server when it's retrieving all the artwork for a particular shared library.

The artwork which gets sent over with songs are actually embedded within the mp3/aac/ale files, meaning that on connection with the shared library you'd have to essentially start streaming every single song in the library to retrieve all the artwork.

I was sort of hoping the apple engineers would have come up with a daap workaround for this. Oh well :(

Strangely, the iTunes update was the best thing to come out of the announcements for me today.

Updated regular iPods- Meh
Updated iPod Nanos-Why didn't they just come out with a flash based Mini last year?
Updated Shuffle-New form factor..nothing really new though...
Selling Movies-BLAH...Too expensive and no rental option...who cares
iTV-Somewhat interesting but without cheaper movies/rentals I'm not sure I would use it. I don't know that I want to rip all of my DVDs to take advantage of it.
iTunes Update!!!-Woohoo! Many of the complaints of users are addressed and several slick new features! Probably the best iTunes update in two years IMO!!

Full screen playback of videos now has Quicktime-style translucent controls.

You can properly tag TV shows.

But unfortunately, it looks like there's no way to edit video info for more than one file at a time. Bummer, since I have dozens of TV episodes I'd like to have tagged correctly. I guess maybe either a future update, or hopefully a Doug's script?

iTunes puts Music Videos in with music. You can change that, select your file, hit command I and select the video tab. If you want it to show up under Movies or TV, just change it in the menu that appears.

I can't play more than 1 song before it crashes. I went ahead and appzapped the friggin program and started with a totally fresh install and I'm having the same problem. It plays 1 song and then crashes.

Another thing I noticed is that it misreports song length by a few seconds. It's reporting them too short. It plays out until the end and then backs up a second or two, then crashes.

Anyone else?

iTunes 7
10.4.7
PB 12"

the new look is kinda "microsoft-ish" if ya know what i mean. not sayin its a bad thing. i hope the leapord takes as much of a gui upgrade as itunes;)

The only thing I don't like is that the album art view options don't work for iPod music.

The EQ column option is cool, I don't know if it's new or not, but I just discovered it.

I can't figure out how to do the reverse iPod sync, has anyone done it yet?

Ummmm... just hit "APPLE" and "B" in the first view... :p Works in all except the cover flip view.
Or click the eye button on the lower right corner.

dang

Shoot, they took away the ability to "Upload checked episodes" for podcasts. If I listen to half an episode and then plug my iPod in, it will sync that podcast off my pod, even if I wanted to listen to the second half later. I have to go back to the podcast directory and "Mark as Unplayed" the podcast to get it back.

I think I figured out what is bothering me so much with the UI (other than the flash-like scroll bars):

Every aspect of iTunes uses Apple's system font, EXCEPT for the iTunes Store - all of a sudden it's Arial, or Helvetica, or something...it really throws me off. All of the Mac OS (not just iTunes) uses Lucida Grande, except for the store.

Very strange, and un-apple looking.

I sooo regret installing itunes 7 now. And you can't even revert back to the old one. With the amount of music I have, it's freaking time consuming having to scroll down to find the artist I wanna listen to since the Artist's name is repeated for each album, so there's thousands and thousands of things to scroll through.

And now its impossible to choose to listen to, for example, only Clapton and Hendrix. Before I could just command+click each artist or even album and there, instant quick playlist. Now I have to create an actual playlist, and probably remember to delete it or else I'll end up with tons of lists.

All in all, this is visually nice upgrade but the usability is down the pan drastically. Its virtually unusable and VERY time consuming.

APPLE BRING BACK COLUMN VIEW PLEASE!!

... it's right there on the bottom right

Question for everyone.
I was playing with itunes 7, and I realized that if i hit the yellow minimize button (with scale effect set) it minimizes into the dock like normal, but when i try to bring it back from the dock it does nothing for a second and then it just appears. I don't know if the way i wrote that makes sense, but give it a try and see if it works for you.

Dude, I am having the same problem. This is getting me real frustrated. I repaired permissions, found all this crap wrong with iTunes, then restarted. Same thing! I don't know what to do, but this is not a good update for me.

Thank you for the clarification, however when I do command-i and choose "Video", the pull-down menu is greyed out. I tried this with several videos, and it's the same: I am unable to change video type on my music videos downloaded from the iTunes Store (American Idiot, etc.). They were all downloaded well before today's updates, so I don't know if that's the problem or not (maybe ones bought afterwards will not cause this problem?)

Are other people experiencing the same problem?
