It's a new feature because it will now import cds by default at 256 instead of 128. I got it the first time I read it why is this such an issue and so hard for everyone to understand?

Where exactly does it say that this will be the default behavior? Also, how is making something default make it a new feature?

Will someone please post in this thread when iTunes 8.1 comes out so that I don't miss it? I wanna help bring down Apple's servers ;)

Well...

Sad part is when you get laid off you read mac rumors more...so when I woke up at 12 today seeing the shuffle:eek:, which in my opinion might be a step in the wrong direction, I got all excited and now have nothing...:(....please apple just release it already...so I can be happy...oh and if its not too much release a new phone so the 3G doesn't tease me to death(Still own the 1G from the first day):):):):):)

Well I haven't been laid off but all the same I hear what you are saying... I think a lot of us here get exited by MacRumors news... I hope everything works out for you...

All The Best,

I also hate how iTunes automatically fills artist names and album names.
There are times that I don't want it to and it actually makes it impossible unless I copy paste from another application. Also, when I'm typing Japanese the autofill conflicts with the suggested conversion.

Hope that's fixed!

Preferences > General > "Automatically retrieve CD track names from the Internet"

Isn't that what you want?

iPhone already updated for release.

The iPhone Remote control app has already been updated by :apple:.

If they can make iTunes stop automatically expanding when I plug in my iPhone, that'll be enough. You can stop it on the Windows version, but not the Mac version for some reason.

The Windows iTunes also automatically converts WMA files.

Since when does Apple announce iTunes updates before they are out? Why would they?

Since the became Job-Less....

Apparently. This doesn't feel good. There were some things I wish Apple would do different but this somewhat confuses me.

Who cares? Why wouldn't they? You can bet nothing is done at Apple without Jobs approval, medical leave or not.

It is iTunes. Do they not explain features of OS X before release? They apparently think the advances made in the leap from the current 8.0.x to 8.1 is worth telling people to make sure they download the software.

Ditto on that. That would be called "new default setting", NOT "new feature". I'm sure default settings get changed all the time as software is improved and tweaked from version to version without being touted as a "new feature".

Next it'll be "New feature: No longer a universal binary". Oh wow, that's new. Must be a feature!

According to this thread's story, it says "Automatically import music from your CDs as higher quality, 256-Kbps iTunes Plus files."

Seems clear to me. People like the idea of higher quality music files downloaded in iTunes when they made the changes with iTunes Plus. Now they are simply saying, "Hey, you don't need to change anything, we'll import it automatically at iTunes Plus quality and you don't have to think about anything."

Like it or not, not everyone is as savvy as MR users. Some probably don't even know you can change import quality. They simply know how to import music by default. Apple is aiming their statement at them and not the advanced users. I don't see how Apple is overselling anything.

OMG! Why is everyone so bent out of shape and stuck on this little bit of wording? It doesn't even say new feature. It just says now import at iTunes plus, which is 256. Okay we'll find out soon enough. Can we move on to something else now?

Thank You! That's what I've been trying to say you just said it much better.:D

Well...

I have been anxiously waiting but it may not come today...

"4GB1
Up to 1,000 songs
Ships: 3-5 business days
$79.00"

As this states the iPod Shuffle does not first ship for 3-5 business days. With this in mind they really do not NEED to ship it for at least 3 days...

I mean there is no product that DESPERATELY needs iTunes 8.1 immediately... They could wait a few days to release it and polish it in the meantime without consequence...

I truly hope I am wrong, and I very well may be, but it is possible... Lets hope not!!!!!

What Do You Guys Think?,

P.S. What do you guys think about the new iPod Shuffle... I am not a big fan... Its design seems god awful from a usability standpoint... It looks so complicated to use...

Shipping software with as wide circulation as iTunes is not as simple as that. You can't just delay it for a bit and ship a build that feels right to one particular person. There's usually extensive testing required and updates are not announced until they are undergoing that process.

And as it happens, I like the new Shuffle. I've gotten used to the track skipping with my iPhone remote. All I need to learn on top of that is that I can hold the button to switch playlists. Sounds good to me.

They would normally simply not announce it. By the sheer fact they are announcing it, I presume it won't come out for days at least.

New iPhone software

With this new feature, Voice Over, maybe their could be a new iPhone update so iPhones can have it. Gizmodo says that Voice Over is not a hardware thing.

If that's the case why not just release the software... While I normally would agree with you there seems to be something more going on here... If the product was announced it stands to logic the software for it would be out there...

As of now this is not the case... What is going on I do not know... I was simply trying to suggest a plausible explanation...

If you feel I am wrong what do you think is the reason for the delay?
