I wonder if the speed improvements stop the re-drawing of cover art in the icon view.

be nice to have some more options for this view.

Is it just me or is the Genius feature not all it's cracked up to be? I just don't find it all that useful. Maybe I'm missing the point somehow.:rolleyes:

No, I don't think you're alone…

I have had very limted success with "Genius" — it only works for me with tracks I have purchased from iTunes. (Maybe that is how it works?)

Although I suspect my music tastes have a lot to do with that.
:D

I have a 245GB iTunes library. Mostly it is CDs ripped to Apple Losses. about 12,000 tracks. iTunes is not slow at all on my 24" iMac. The library lives on a 1TB Segate disk connected via FW800. I can scroll through the entire library about as fast as I can move the mouse. searches for a composer or band have zero lag time. hard to see how it could be faster.

Scrolling isn't the problem I have, it's updating simple things, like checking and unchecking a TV Show, every time I do that it takes iTunes 10 seconds to make the change. I have a large library (60K songs, 800 audiobooks and 1.5K TV shows) and an obsolete but serviceable Mac Pro 2.7 GHz DP G5 with 4.5 GB RAM, but even so, iTunes shouldn't be that slow. I welcome a faster version, I just hope they also fixed that problem with playing video that causes initial playback to freeze for 20 seconds.

This iTunes update (the back-end of it) will probably also close the gift certificate loop hole, I hope it does, but that's just me of course.

Maybe this will finally fix the graphics issues that I've been having. Plus TV genius is great, I have 2400 episodes and I could use a better way to choose an episode to watch.

the tracks just have to be available in the iTunes store for Genius - you don't have to have purchased them.
but yes, it doesn't work with more obscure music. fortunately, iTunes is always adding more content.

iTunes is one of the worst applications I use. Looking forward to some improvements.

I wonder if they're going to port it over to Cocoa?

I also have a very large libary and don't see any slowing while running the program on my mac-mini. It can take a very long time to load and to quit.

I just wish my Genius feature would start working again! About 2 months ago it would get half way through the update process and would say network timeout.
it was the 1st thing I turned off. maybe it's useful for people who just don't have that touch what's needed to find good music?!? like people, who listen to music on radio and think their taste is top notch.

i'm waiting for the speed boost as well but don't think it's gonna happen. itunes is such a hog, one of the worst media player around. too bad it can't be avoided with the app store. :(

Sounds like you're only talking about the Genius Sidebar, but I find Genius Playlists more useful

Is it me or does it seem like it is "Genius" that slows down iTunes?

iTunes has been slow on Windows for a long time... Hopefully it will be faster for Windows users now.

Note: I don't know about the performance of iTunes 8.x on either OS X or Windos as I've been travelling.

Hey!!!!!!!!
Apple has just updated the iTunes Store!!!!
They have changed the way it shows iTunes Plus albums!!!

It used to say it in words as with the icon which was below the price!!

C'mon 8.1!!!!!

But will it allow full screen on only ONE display without blacking the other one?

Probably not.

The most moronic thing about iTunes as far as I am concerned.

I can't believe Apple themselves put up specs on something before it's released. That's almost unheard of in Apple-land.

Great about a speedier update but there are many of us who wish Apple would finally release a 240GB classic. The drives are out there now. And for those who say who needs it, there many many music freaks, DJs, restaurants and so on who want our entire collections with us.

I'd be pretty tempted to snag one of those and I really don't need it. But I would probably buy one anyway :)

In regards to posting the specs beforehand, it's usually not good. Specs were dropped from Leopard (fast-user switching between OS's) after they were posted.

Although, iTunes is a totally different animal but still they've done it before.
