Steve says Genius will become smarter and smarter. The way I see it, it's only a matter of time before it becomes self aware. iTunes=Skynet

Oh Really?

Sales Tax

I apologize if this has already been posted, but I was actually skimming the updated iTunes Store Terms of Service (probably for the first time ever), and I noticed a paragraph about Sales Tax. Anyone know if it was there before, and what it really means? I didn't think there was any sales tax for buying stuff on iTunes. At least, I haven't had to pay any yet.

First impressions-by aafuss1:
  • Installs quickly on my 1.5ghz mini
  • Album art for grid view took about 2-5 minutes to generate
  • Grid view has iMovie and and iPhoto like scrubbing and is very impressive to look at
  • Genius setup-quite easy, my results were displayed quickly
  • New visualizer looks wonderful

Well to answer my own question about Smart Playlists, it looks like they have not been touched since the previous version. Disappointing but expected I suppose.

just learned about terminal to do this.

close itunes, go to applications - utilities - terminal. open it, select new command. copy and paste this:

defaults write com.apple.itunes show-genre-when-browsing -bool FALSE

then run command. open itunes and genre column is gone.

do the same with:

defaults write com.apple.iTunes invertStoreLinks -bool YES

to turn off itunes store arrow links

Awsome, thanks for that it was driving me crazy... (And I've never used Terminal before!!):D

Genius = Skynet?

Just finished watching the keynote and couldn't help but think that Apple might have just created Skynet with the way Steve described how Genius works.

What happens to HD TV shows when you try to sync them to your ipod/iphone. Will itunes convert them?

Well I have to say after being extremely skeptical I backed up my library to an external drive and installed iTunes 8, and after letting it do its processing/updating it seems to be working great. I have a library over 160GB and well over 100 smart playlists, which was really chugging on my dual 2.7 G5 with iTunes 7.7.1. It is very noticeably faster now (though I wouldn't go as far as to call it Snappy™).

I also found the Genius playlist feature to work pretty well. I'm hoping this feature comes to my Classic because I could really see it being useful there, and of course on the iPhone it will be nice also.

I don't like the grid view too much because I don't see any way to see the tracks or go to the tracks which is stupid, but I don't have to use it so no problem.

Still early stages but so far I'm pleasantly surprised. Doesn't have many of the improvements I would have requested but the performance upgrade is a huge deal and will save me a lot of aggravation.

Hear me out about Grid View

i've been waiting for this sort of view for a while and now that it's hear, it seems like i could probably get used to using it a some, but i dont think it'd still ever be a realistic default view for me. and so i propose a way of once entering grid mode, we could minimize/collapse the left toolbar for playlists, et cetera, and then put a bit more of a comprehensive toolbar up top in black, similar style to the tabs already in place. it should give you the ability to browse your whole itunes library, including playlists, smart playlists, folders, your devices (my iphone and ipod's music libraries and their aforementioned qualities). so this would mean a button with an icon and or text (options here apple?) so as to represent each of the grey titles we see on the left of itunes, such as "library, devices, playlists", but also in addition, artists, albums, et cetera. possibly for playlists you can roll over the albums with your pointer like you can with iphoto when view events. just throwing ideas out there but i do like how the grid view breaks down once past actual grid view, and how it handles different songs and even albums, with their ratings and all, quite nicely.

just double click to see tracks, album art, and arrows to go from one to the other; it's pretty nifty imo

You always piad tax depending on state.

How long does it take apple to reply to a message about missing downloads, I'm so  right now.

Why the F* the visualizer gets mentioned all the time?

"ooh there's a visualizer!" Wasn't these thing "hot" YEARS ago when Winamp had Milkdrop etc.? What next, drooling over a screensaver on iPod/iPhone? How about some sexy beziers?

Come on, HD movies!

Seriously, what's up with that? An iTunes HD movie would be cheaper than Blu-Ray. Ah, now I get it. Sony Pictures. Thanks, guys.
