I'm definitely going to buy the 39.99 Netter's Anatomy for sure because it will definitely help me and patients. I can't wait to see what ePocrates looks like on the 3G iphone :)

Gotta buy one after the 11th sometime... probably off a scalper who camped outside the apple store...

See, the thing is, to get an app on the App Store, a developer must pay $99 to get in the program. The development software is free, but you have to pay to get on the store. Thus, if someone only has one product, a flashlight app, then that person will probably charge $0.99 and hope more than 100 people buy the App (Apple gets a 30% cut), so they can make a profit.

but the devs don't get none till the total of their cut (70%) reaches $250.
apple does not write cheques below $250.

"As a result the only people buying apps are the ones who followed these instructions to install the Firmware early."

Maybe I am exception, but I dont even have an iPhone yet. I have an iPod touch, but am downloading all the apps I want before the servers get hammered.

Same here. I plan to get my first iPhone tomorrow, but I already got a bunch of apps, including one I paid for (flickr). This way I'm all set when I bring it home.

This is unfortunate, as a Canadian who does a lot of traveling to the US I would love to use some of the US software. Unfortunately I only have a Canadian mailing address so I am stuck not being able to download these apps.

Also why would the Google App be country restricted?

OKAY HOW MANY TIMES DO PEOPLE IN OTHER COUNTRIES NEED TO BE TOLD THIS!

For years and years and years and years and year its been common practice for music movies books etc be distributed by companies LOCAL TO THE CONTRY IN QUESTION the reason being who better knows how to sell to the local population than a company that has prior experience selling in the region. Basically the person who hold the WORLD WIDE ownership of 'whatever-item' sells exclusive distribution rights to the highest bidder (or some prearranged company - or whatever) for different regions... The region could be 'europe' or broken down to the country level or even further. Sometimes items sold in US are broken out into 'east' 'central' 'west' market (think avon, snap-on tools and marykay I think) and the person who has the 'rights' to sell 'whatever' in NY (east) might not have the ability sell to a company located in CA (west).

This isn't Apple being mean...
This isn't AOL being mean...

This is SIMPLY BUSINESS and the way it was done prior to the global internet (world without borders) whatever.

These 'global distribution contracts' have been signed sealed and delivered for quite some time and Apple and AOL had no say in those negotiations... Apple is forced to live by the CONTRACTUAL DEMANS that the CONTENT HOLDER puts to them. AOL is in the same boat...

You wanna be mad at someone be mad at the TV SHOW OWNERS or MUSIC OWNERS or MAP DATA OWNERS or RADIO STATION OWNERS.

Not Apple or AOL... You think Apple DOESN'T wanna sell EVERYTHING to EVERYONE in one simple store... You KNOW they do... but they are FORCED into doing things they way they do SOLEY at the DEMANDS of the MUSIC COPYRIGHT HOLDERS.

Sheech... :)

Download a pdf from www.wmata.com and asume it's always broken..that's what I do.

Woohoo DC Metro going to and from work.

There are worse things than WMATA -- like no realistic option for public transit. I miss my daily ride to and from Pentagon City/Farragut North, especially now that I have to drive half and hour each way, and there's no option to read.

Erica already has one free app up in the store, so we may expect a lot from her as long as it isn't system stuff Apple won't permit.

I didn't realize that her flashlight was the free app I was pointing out. Erica has three free apps up on the store.

Can someone please point me to where you see the stats of how many times an app has been downloaded because I cant seem to find it anywhere.

Does anyone know how updates to Applications will be pushed to the store?

Will you be required to rebuy the App to get any updates or is it up to the Developer to decide?

Voice dialing MIA?

I wonder what happened to Makayama's voice dialing app, described at http://www.makayama.com/iphonevoicedial.html. Their Web page has a broken link to the app store. It'd be a shame if Apple rejected it, since voice dialing is a needed feature. I'd pay $20-$30 for it, although it should be part of the iPhone's default functions.

Dave needs a hug. My arms are open to you snuggle bear Baaaa ha ha ha

I'd like to see a way you could trigger it from either the clicker on the head set or from a bluetooth headset.

Unfortunately there is no way to do that with the current SDK. Best we could do was button OR using the proximity sensor. Its actually really nice. Just bring up the phone to your head and start talking. Bring it back down and recording ends. Setup Note2Self to automatically save or send and you never have to touch the screen except to start the app..

Right now, there are only free updates. Devs cannot - yet - setup prices for upgrades. I'm sure that is coming since I don't see people making free upgrades for life.

I really wish you could demo some of the apps before you plunk down the money for them, especially the games. I can just see myself buying a game for 10 bucks and either not really liking it or becoming bored with it fast.

They could use the same technology that they use with rented movies but make the rental time like an hour and then the app/game self deletes itself.
Oh well.
wait till someone or multiple people post reviews

The App Store / iTunes WILL NOT crash or even become laggy from people downloading apps. Akamai hosts most if not all of iTunes stuff and Akamai is the junk.

"As a result the only people buying apps are the ones who followed these instructions to install the Firmware early."

Maybe I am exception, but I dont even have an iPhone yet. I have an iPod touch, but am downloading all the apps I want before the servers get hammered.

I highly doubt the servers will get hammered, they are the same servers that serve up the music on itunes, and there are millions of people downloading from itunes at any given time.

Have you seen how freaky fast itunes downloads a song when you purchase it?!

Is it me or is Loot messed up. Every time I try to download it I get an error "error = -100000" Weird
Anyway, as any one noticed that Apple changes the Terms of Service.
When I went to download another App is said "The Terms of Service have changed." I wonder what happened?

Akamai baby!

Application button doesn't work

The App Store link from the iTune Store works fine, but the Applications button in the iTunes application doesn't.

Has Sega ever said how much their development costs were for making Super Monkey Ball?

Things are looking good so far, the pricing looks ok. But I hope soon to see more 'quality' software right now most of the games look very lack luster, nothing like a potential rival for the DS or PSP.
