You must me talking about old stock at Sanity. Otherwise, what the hell?? New release albums at BigW are $19-21.

Yes, you're right, but the majority of CD's are around the $29.95 mark.

...We've heard talk of Australia getting iTune for the last 3 years....

I'll believe it when I'm buying stuff from iTunes.....

It's only been in the US since 2003, so I don't think you've been hearing about it for quite 3 years yet :)

I don't care if Sony hold out! They can site there with their thumbs in their mouths while the rest of us can enjoy whatever is available.

I say boycott Sony for stuffing us around for so long!!!

Most of the big ones I'm worried about are apparently on EMI (my main reason for waiting for iTMS, an opportunity to bypass CopyControl - let's go Coldplay!).

Let's not forget here - it's not just Sony, it's SonyBMG - the biggest recording company in the world (a merger of two companies that were close to the biggest in their own rights beforehand). I just looked up the Australian database of worldwide artists, it's HUGE. If they try to compete with some ATRAC system, I'll be pissed, because it will fail, and many great artists will miss out on potential sales.

If you want to get technical.

I just mean it _seems_ like 3 years, because it's so late in the year, it started in the earlier part of 2003, and it was so long ago.

I think we can safely say that it's been too long. I hope they keep their pricing model similar to the US one -> eg: $AUD1.49 a song or something like that...and hopefully it does actually materialise sometime soon.

price is not the issue for me.
(well $1.69 inc. gst is ok, $1.75 inc. gst is tops)
the local record co.'s like to keep a strangle hold on what's released here.
content will be the killer.
the local rec. co's probably want it restricted to the crap they put in local cd shops.
hopefully the range of music is huge.
we'll know on the 25th or 31st or................

Finally!

About time! One question... Does that mean we can download episodes of Desperate Housewives and Lost that havn't aired here in Australia? Like, can you download from "other" iTunes Stores??

LOL, I've been waiting for this since the orginal iTunes store opened back in the day...

Cheers

- Den

Bets on pricing ??

anyone want to bet on the price points....in $AU only

I say
$3.99 for a new single
$2.99 for an older song
$21.99 for an album

Any other takers....person closest to the correct price wins a shiny new ipod video...

PS
only kidding about the shiny ipod video bit

I'm actually beginning to doubt that man landed on the moon in 1969.
(for lots of reasons including: they went to the moon with a computer less powerful than the one in a washing machine yet they can't synchronise a set of traffic lights along a mian road in any capital city in Australia)
Aha, so that explains all the shuttle delays, NASA have been busy changing light bulbs in Perth!
They'll tease us for a week, announce the date for a week later, disappear back to the US and blame further delays for the store on a record company.
So there's the solution, put RKA in charge of music. You won't get anything recorded after 1980, but it will work every time.

(I need coffee, now.)

Nope, each store is its own little island :( If you can get your hands on a foreign credit card or gift certificate, that can work, but otherwise you're out of luck.

I need some of the drugs you are on :)

Wow!!!

Did anyone else (ever) notice this guy's name is Greg Joswiak?

I think that is what Apple should have been named by Mr. Jobs and Woz....

Introducing the Joswiak G5 Powerbook....

Usually I would totally discount ANYTHING AppleTalk Australia says...

BUT, this rumor has appeared in many newspapers which have a slighty (much higher) credibility record.

Can't wait :)
