Wouldn't it be cool if when the lucky winner downloads the 100 miilionth track, they would hear the voice of Steve say "BOOM!! You are our 100 millionth download!"

Okay, the excitement is definitely starting to get to me...

Actually, he would say..."The 100 millionth download will be available from the Apple Store in 3-4 months, if we can meet demand"
:p

yeah, but you know what's gonna be REALLY funny? The most bought album tomorrow will be that 'Pull My Finger' CD...oh, apple's gonna love us for that one! lol

I can just see it now. In a classy move Apple anounces on CNN that the 100 mil song was #94 on the pull my finger CD.

Steve Jobs: Well Wolf, the 100 millionth song was #94 on the pull my finger CD

Wolf Blitzer: Interesting. What exactly is track #94?

Steve Jobs: ....... Its a recording of someone crapping into a toilet, Wolf..

Wolf Blitzer: ...... Oh.

Is it just me, or is this 100,000,000 mark perfectly timed: overnight for most of the mainland U.S., morning for our European users. Imagine the server strain if it was in the middle of the day

Great timing to happen on early Monday morning when everyone is about to go back to work (i.e. analysts, certain press, etc)....as opposed to like 4 AM on Sunday

I really hope Apple goes on a all out press blitz(er - sorry couldn't help myself) with this. Including major fan fare and Steve appearing on all of the cable news channels.

Everyone's waiting....

The pace seems to be slowing just a bit....
as we approached 99,950,000, it seemed like the updates were close to 5,000 every 5 min.

Now it looks like they are dropping to about 3,000 every 5 min.

I hope the 100M song is something controversial. Apple will no doubt be wanting to/have to advertise the specifics on it, so it would be funny if it was some song by Cannibal Corpse et al., or perhaps something racist, satanic, etc. ;)

Well, look at it this way. If that happens, at least it'd prove to everyone the diversity found within the Store's music catalogue :)

Steve would go ballisitic.

Though it would suck, it would also be hilarious if Bill G. purchased the 100 millionth song. We all know he secretly wants a 17" Powerbook. :D

After reaching 100M

...so you say you want a revolution...

I predict, that upon reaching 100 million songs sold, Apple will announce a partnership with the Beatles, thereby making that band's albums available. Everyone will receive a free download of "Revolution" once the 100M mark is reached...

the only reason i can see that happening , is because beatles were playing before the start of the recent keynote.

BTW, if anyone finds it horribly disturbing to own 99 fart sounds, there's also an inspirational album of 99 songs "99 Ways to Get More Out of Every Day" by Gene Griessman, PhD. He's really annoying sounding, but it's another choice. There's another one out there, I think the album is called 100, but the first 10 are normal length songs with the last 89 at 4 seconds.

I'm tempted to get an account and buy one of those albums at the last minute, but it seems a bit futile. I'm greatly amused that those guys with the 99 song-albums will be getting quite a bit of cash from this promo.

Now THAT would be funny!! Or even if it's any Microsoft employee, how great would that be?!
