Nobody needs iTunes anymore.
Apple Music is everything. As long as there's a Mac app that interfaces with Apple Music then everyone will be good.
Before Apple Music, I was a subscriber to iTunes Match. What I like about Match is that I could upload the music that I have that Apple does not. Even with a very fast connection, it took 3.5 days for the process to complete (all of my CDs were ripped as Apple Lossless, so the process included down-converting what was uploaded). My question is whether they will merge that with Apple Music. I do not have a family sharing plan because we cannot share what I uploaded in iTunes Match! Each person in my family would have to have a separate iTunes Match account and have a copy of the library on their computers. I understand it's a licensing issue -- but one that should be able to be rectified. So, we shall see what we end up getting. Perhaps just iTunes in a separate music app, and separate apps for podcasts and movies.

so where iTunes Match goes to?
I have the same question. What I don't like is that if you go for the family sharing plan, you CANNOT share iTunes match unless each member pays a subscription to it.
My guess:
1. You will still have access to all purchased music
2. You will still have access to iTunes match music (whether you can upload new music that Apple doesn't have is unclear)
3. Hopefully, this new app will provide a more common-sense approach to family sharing and music you have that is not available from Apple (which is why I love iTunes Match).

Plus how do we backup? iCloud is not the way for everyone.
I would imagine that the iPhone, iPad, and iPod back-up function will be moved to a separate app as well, or remain part of the new music app. I use iCloud, but understand why some prefer local back-up.
