Apple should build some Facebook connec right into the iPhone and ipad os (or create a competing social repository). Part of the popularity of facebook games (and xbox ones) is that they allow you to compete with friends with a centralized database of user icons and scores. Farmville and mafia wars wouldn't be as popular if I couldn't see a cousin or friend's score to compete with.

So are you one of those that makes all of your friends get the constant invites from those games.............You know they hate that right?

I don't understand all the complaints about iTunes, it works great for me. Never had any issues at all. Maybe it's just the windows version that people don't like?

Same here, i love itunes. It uses 2% or less cpu when its playing music, how is that bloated and slow? :s

I take it I am not the only one who reads this story as "iTunes to See Increased Data Mining And Advertising Platform Integration?" then.

You must be on a PC because I don't have any problems with iTunes on any of my Macs.

I'm on a PC and I love my iTunes, although sometimes it does freeze for a second or two but it doesn't bother me. I've been using it for 5 years and I don't see myself using any other music player.

The only reason I mentioned about a PC because most people here with a PC complain about iTunes. But I'm with you on this, I have friends with PC's that love iTunes. Just depends on the user.

Every version of iTunes is crap. OSX, Windows, doesn't matter. Try this. Compare iTunes on an iMac i7 vs. the Zune Software on a Core 2 Duo. One of them completely kicks the other ones butt, and check your fanboyism at the door when making this comparison.
You're the one who should probably be checking fanboyism at the door. ;)
I agree that iTunes for Windows is bloated, but Zune Software vs. iTunes on the Mac? A little overly dramatic there? I agree with many others here. iTunes on the Mac runs marvelously. I have no issues and a library with tens of thousands of songs along with plenty of multimedia.

iWHAT?

I think iTunes needs to go back to just being a music app, or else change the name of the bloody thing. They just keep tacking more and more crap on to it, causing major headaches. It is taking longer and longer to launch (and yes I'm on a mac) every time they have an "update". Give it a rest Apple.

Just say NO to Facebook.

Last.fm integration, on the other hand, would be golden and way more appropriate.

completely agree!

I read this quote somewhere and saved it because i love it:

"Facebook is the cancer of modern day society where idiots gather."

so, no, i do not want facebook on or in my itunes whatsoever...

This is a sad sign of where Apple has been heading recently. They used to stand for such great ideals and ideas. Now they occupy the forefront of hollow and mindless consumerism.

Apple should come up with an iTunes lite without the fancy add on features for slow computers

(...)
Do you think Apple will dare launching a flat TV screen next?
Or maybe a Mac Touch? A Social Network? A new iPad based home computer? Or they will come out with something that we haven't even yet think about?

(...)
I don't have any idea what apple will do next, but a social network doesn't make sense when apple pretty much anti-social :p Seriously, they sell software to sell hardware. Setting up a social network doesn't buy them anything. (...)

Would be cool to see what they would do with that, considering they got MobileMe and could easily extend it.

I know that is just a "collaboration"/implementation or whatever is, but I got close.

A point for me. :D

WTH are you talking about... iTunes runs awesome on OS X, but has always been mediocre on windows for some reason.

iTunes spilt into several applications? Sounds a bit messy to me, not something Apple would do.
I have another idea (not sure if it's plausible or not, just thought i'd share it)
What if you were able to select what parts of iTunes you wanted, like if you only wanted it for music, you only get a basic music player, but if you then decide you want some movies too you download another piece of software that simply plugs in to your existing iTunes. That way people could avoid a lot of the unnecessary bulk that they complain about.

Anyone think this is a good idea?

Gotta agree. iTunes has always worked perfectly well for me on OS X. Fast, no crashes.. even with a plugin i use. (iConcertCal)

I agree on some key points; mainly, that the constant revising of the interface and basic operational protocols on FB is very aggravating, especially when they upend the whole thing and bring about features that *might* be cool if they also hadn't brought less stability with them...

From everything I have read, though, the rumours of a monthly fee are unfounded and, in fact, have been circulating for most of the past two years in which I've been on FB...

My only real worry about tying-in with the place is what happens when the next big thing comes along? I've invested a ridiculous amount of myself into FB and dread the thought of having to start over on a new social networking site. I know many simply won't and those are people I will in all likelihood fall out of touch with... Can't go to MySpace, because it's even more of a mess than FB; and hardly anyone I know is on the other sites like Orkut or Friendster. I'm on all three of the aforementioned and my profiles are very lonely places...

YES: FB's Flash-heavy nature bugs me to no end...

A.

Many of my friends have left facebook. With facebook forever making changes to the home page and layout, many have become upset with the changes and how buggy / error prone facebook has become. facebook also has had many viruses. not a problem for mac users, but for those using itunes on windows that makes them even more vulnarable.

Also there is a rumor that facebook (with all it's games, advertising, etc) may start charging users $4 a month in the upcoming months, due to server overloads and the cost to keep up and running. I know if that ever comes true, my 140+ friends said they will leave facebook.

I left myspace due to being hacked a number of times, it is only time for facebook to face the same issues. facebook may also turn out to be a fad (unless some big company starts supplying them with money to improve it, since there are so many using it and apps making connection options). Once facebook goes, what is next.

Also what about LinkedIn. I use Facebook for my personal agenda and LinkedIn for my business groups. just this week alone, I was asked to join 3 other social networking forums I never even heard of. Where does it end, so many to keep up with.

And if facebook is the chosen method, by God update the iphone so that I can play the videos people are posting. I mostly use facebook from my iphone anyway. oh wait, facebook uses flash.

I live abroad and use Facebook mainly to be in contact with friends, relatives, share photos. The in-browser ajax chat is OK too. I started using iPhoto because FB sharing is much cool than creating the albums by hand. But i HATE farmville, the quizzes, people "sending" you stuff, opening chinese cookies, etc., the constant UI changes...

FB (and Flickr) in iPhoto is cool, but FB in iTunes is useless I think. Unless they let you post the whole song but the RIAA won't allow it.

I hope Genius isn't going to start taking into account what my friends listen to!
I don't know how iTunes could possibly integrate with Facebook, I mean okay, it could display what I'm listening to in my Status, which I don't want to use anyway, but other than that, I can't see how this could work!

I hope not, if only because there is enough FarmVille crap in the world already... :p

This. I started giving up on using Facebook when I had to work my way through farmville junk, mafia wars, and all the other retarded apps people play on Facebook to find actual posts. Kinda loses the point when Facebook can longer accomplish for me the simple task of knowing what your friends are up to.
