Hey guys.

Apple aren't going to call it iTV - *anywhere*.

Look out for a post tomorrow from John 'disgustingly smug can-we-punch-him-in-his-face-please' Gruber where he smugly makes it clear he has a source without actually saying "I have a source" in which he 'scoops' this particular blatantly obvious factoid.

There's just no way, on this Earth, that Apple are going to call it iTV. At all. Ever. Anywhere.

Can we all just stop being ****s now please? :)

I would not exactly call The Mirror a reliable news organisation so this story is probably total rubbish. If Apple did decide to rename it iTV I suspect they would come to some form of agreement with ITV to licence the name just like they have done before.

ITV is a ***** channel anyway, watched by grumpy old women who have nothing better to do than watch This Morning, Jeremy Kyle, and send in complaints about "controversial" storylines in Coronation Street.

might be appropriate for this story

does that change the fact that it is still a trademark issue?

Is it common for British companies to get "furious" and assemble a team of lawyers to sue over uncorroborated internet rumors?

With 24B in cash reserves, I'm sure Apple will stir up an offer, and if they can't they can just use AppleTV. I sure hope the aTV or iTV has PDVR, I'm not sure if it would be successful if it doesn't.

I have my doubts about this claim and is simple fat news to fill in space for friday

Canada has an iTV news channel and nothing coming outta this?
That means UK should be going after iTV in Canada as well, when iTV in Canada has been around a very, very long time.

Who's infringing who?
Maybe UK should shut the F*%^ up Canada iTV may just come after them for using iTV name after Canada established it loooong ago.

Shuv that up your a** UK

GO CANADA

Go canada? you guys didnt have the balls to get rid of the british queen like the americans did. you guys are our queens btches.

Why not iOS TV?

Why not call it iOS TV? That's basically what it is right? iOS on the tv for apps and streaming music/tv/movies? :apple:

If you believe our tabloids it would be. However those warning stickers above are very appropriate. This story is full of the hallmarks of "churnalism": - a unnamed "source", like you say - a barely credible scenario , Apple thrown in which as shown by the nonsense being spouted in this thread is good for some attention, and a "much loved" British brand being put upon by those dirty Americans. The chances of this being a real story: zero.

I bet the bosses at the Mirror are very happy with some junior journalist today. All those international page clicks!

Lol

Get over it. This is just another stupid little rumour.

And where's the "we" in iSelfishLittlePrick? It's time for a name change. Time for Apple weDevices. Apple weTV :D You don't want to watch movies alone, do you?

Lets name the nbctv, how bout the foxtv, or the nickolodeon tv?

Why does this TV network care anyway, wouldnt it be good exposure?

Apple iTV?

I always thought iTV was the best name for Apple TV as since the 'i' is supposed to stand for 'internet' and that is basically what the device does. I did think it would be more of a problem for Elgato with their EyeTV. I wonder if the Name 'Apple iTV' would be acceptable to everyone? People would just call it iTV anyway.

It would cause confusion. People would see ITV and think it is some apple network when in reality it is not. Might also cause some adversitiers not to want to go on it because they confusing the name again with apple.
I honestly think the name confusion would hurt them more than it would help them.

Who cares about yahoos who made something as dumb as Love Island.

I told everyone the first time nobody cares about some dumb tv channel on some little island when it comes to naming global products.

I heard a pygmy tribe has a hut design they have called "Big Mac" for 100s of years. I guess McDonalds better change the name!

Don't call the iPhone stupid.

Most people here won't know anything about this picture. I do, it features my classic car (red SL outside of the garage).

I'm just trying to calculate - South Park started in 1997, thirteen years ago. Some of the posters have not been born then or needed a regular change of diapers. That's it, probably that's where the bad manner comes from. The cartoon they grew up with was South Park and they don't know anything about any fish, whatever it's called.

By the way, great reference! I love Kline's response contrasted with the snobbery of Cleese and the incompetence of Palin.

Working for the big paycheck...

These folks at ITV are doing nothing but trying to position themselves for a big pay check. They are stomping around acting like this is a major issue... in hopes of upping the price tag Apple will pay to allow them to use the ITV trade mark....

Pathetic really... they might just as well through themselves under a car and claim back injuries to get a check from the insurance companies too...

That's my impression too, that they are huffing and puffing to build up momentum for royalties, a one-time sale of rights, or payment for damages. In fact, my guess is that they'll be disappointed if Apple turns out not to want rights to the name.
