Does anyone actually check facts before posting?

Is it not clear that apple has i everything? I mean unless their company is really old they shouldnt have named it itv. I mean it sound like they named it itv just to get people to go to their channel thinking it is apple.

Put "ITV founded" into your Yahoo! search window and you'll see:

ITV is the oldest commercial television network in the UK, having begun broadcasting in 1955.

Jeez....

In other news, Steve Jobs born 1955.

To begin with, "tele" sounds old. Brings images of telegraphs, teletypes and rotary telephones --"tele" was your grandfather's "i", like "e" was for your father.

Not television, TV; internetvision, iV

ITV is not a global company. Apple is.

Listening to those execs talk up their company is pretty funny. He even starts dissing the iPhone 4. Who does he think he works for, Verizon or Google?

THERE IS THE SOLUTION!!!

Apple should call :apple:TV 'TeleTV'. Or even better, TeleTube' to upset the BBC executives (about similarity to Teletubbies, in case you wonder why). :)

TeleTube!!!

Putting that 'i' in front everything now seems hokey...it's lost its novelty.

They should consider going old-school or retro with more 'boutique' names again like the old Apple Lisa, Macintosh, etc.

Considering this is a rumor, those execs are acting very unprofessional.

This is just a ridiculous reaction.

Ah, but because we live in a 'doomy?' island, it means our women aren't so keen to get plastic t*ts to display in the sun. Fake false plastic t*ts. We also do not get earthquakes or destructive hurricanes, not like you do anyway, or feel the need to drop nuclear weapons and kill 260,000 people..... And I also seem to remember we do not have an industry based here that makes billions by showing filth and sluts on the screen?:D we are only a second world island in your blinded eyes mate, I guess you have been watching too much of your country's filth on telly? Do you need any kleenex?

+10000000000…

I'm american and I'm NOT proud of it. Because of how ********** up our country is.

So to summarise:

• People on here don't like to check that ITV has a trademark on digital content boxes (erm, isn't that what Apple TV essentially is?)

of which the eyeTV is essentially also, and likely to cause brand confusion for both ITV and the mythical iTV.

Did ITV ever challenge the use of the Trademark eyeTV in britain?
If no then ITV has possibly lost it trademark on digital content boxes.

p.s. I don't believe the rumour to start with Apple started with iTV and most likely moved away when they found it wan't a defendable trademark nothing has changed why dig it up again?

Apple should just buy Britain.

hahaha. You know Apple goes to extreme lengths for their own benefit ;).

Wow, that will be interesting! Don't mess with the Brits ;)

You sound ridiculous... would Apple or rather Steve Jobs like someone to call their company very similar to there's? Don't think so, Jobs would go nuts. Same thing here.

I don't really think Apple are going to name Apple TV iTV after changing it years back probably because of ITV in the UK, they probably want a consistent naming of their products in every country, hence all of Apple's products are the same English name products in China/Japan, etc. You have to admit though, iTV and ITV is pretty damn close and it's understandable these execs are angry over the speculation this will be happening.

I think some people need to calm down. Just a bit.

An upgraded Apple TV is NOT how to conquer the living room Apple. Personally I think they should make something completely revolutionary. Like a hybrid between the Apple TV and PlayStation 3. It should include Blu Ray, next gen console gaming potential, massive app store, media streaming and all with motion input like the Kinect that works seamlessly. They took handheld devices to the next level, now lets see Apple take the living room devices to the next level. The key is a healthy mix between gaming, movies and music I believe. All are required.

Not sure why they just don't stick with Apple TV, unless of course they have plans down the road for this thing to take over cable and movie rentals/on-demand, just like iTunes did.

And I'm pretty sure ITV doesn't have a case here... wouldn't you think Apple's lawyers would have made sure the name iTV was locked up back in 2006 when this thing first launched?

The whole issue is Apple has become so innovative in so many ways, that they're now being sued for things they created the idea for years ago!

They invented television? Brands are important, in its lifetime independant television has secured use of upper and lower case letter in all combinations and can show use of same.
Apple would have to deal with the European commision if they decided to brand as itv in mainland Europe. That is the way global brands work.
I wonder how well Apples lawyers might succeed where MS lawyers failed in Europe?

You miss the point, eyeTV sounds not reads as ITV, iTV.
It does not work like that. Rupert Murdoch has been poorly advised. His lawyers must be coining it though, chances of winning battle against Skype, v slim indeed.
iPed or iRobot anyone?

While reading this article, I was thinking as a UK citizen, hmmm yeh renaming the Apple TV to the same name as one of the UK's largest TV channels is going to be a little confusing, frustrating many Brits...

However when they started using the silly iPhone 4 'problem', having a stab at Apple in their selfish defense, I decided... change the damn name. Dissolve the ITV channel for all I care!

Apple should call it the CBS or NBC. I'm sure the exec's of those US TV companies won't mind.
