Classic. This trashy tv station doesn't want to be associated with Apple, pretty much the most successful company of all time, because Apple makes inferrior products? What a bunch of horsecrap. Being associated with Apple would be the best possible thing for iTV.

Why is anyone taking this crap even remotely seriously? It was written in the Mirror for god's sake. If they ever print anything remotely approaching the truth it's down to sheer coincidence.

And as soon as they quote anything from "a source" or "an insider" or "a friend" it simply means "nobody ever said this but we wish they had".

There is no reason to believe a word of this bull, and every reason to believe that Kate McMahon made the whole thing up.

Seriously guys, I know this is a rumor site, but there are rumors, and then there's the daily torrent of puerile effluent that British tabloids successfully shovel down the gullets of the terminally stupid.

What I find hilarious is that it is just a rumor.

Hey. I heard a rumor that Apple will be producing a new desktop computer with plenty of space. They will be calling it the Big Mac.

"Oh no! Somone call McDonalds! They have gotta know!!!"

:D

Seriously, if it wasn't a rumor I'd believe getting mad about it, but as it stands right now it is STILL a RUMOR.

That's as bad as fanboys getting their panties in a bunch when they hear a certain object of their desire doesn't have what they want.

hahahahahahahaha, "We all take our ITV brand very seriously"
This is from the network that makes,
http://www.itv.com/lifestyle/loosewomen/

And "I'm a Celebrity, get me out of here"
Although it should be called "I either used to be a celebrity or want to be a celebrity, so I'm willing to eat bugs and pretend to live in the bush while it's actually quite clean and safe in order to get some money and hopefully be back in the limelight even though it's the crappy sort of celeb trash limelight that no sane person wants to be in"

Loose women is basically an hour of stupid women talking about how **** men are. (And to those of you that think I'm a troll being sexist, I'm really not. It is actually that bad, and anyone in the UK would probably agree)

ITV are desperate for money, so I think they secretly want Apple to do it, so they can try and get money out of a lawsuit (or out of court settlement like Fujitsu/Cisco)

The Mirror, yeh right a really credible source! and ITV protecting its brand! What brand? they are a 2bit TV company spilling out the same silly shows for more than 20 years!, they should be glad for the free publi. :p

Freaking out over a rumor? Idiots. Sounds more like they're foaming at the mouth and seeing dollar bills in their eyes. Good luck with that one ITV!

...

No it isn't, it's made up nonsense written by some tabloid hack with about as must journalistic credibility as my left arse cheek.

I am sure Apple already had this trademarked long ago anyway, and has figured out the legal ramifications. The Apple TV has been under the radar its entire existence anyway. This could be a lot of free and valuable press if Apple attempts a product relaunch under this name.

Do you mean Apple had "iTV" trademarked years ago? Because the ITV channel has been around since 1955... Something tells me they'll win in a trademark dispute here in the UK...

Maybe instead of using iTV and being associated with that channel they should use the good name of the BBC and call it BBCTV (Thinking of BBC earth here with all their spectacular nature documentaries, at the top Attenborough's)

Not an expert on British trademark laws but would suspect they're based on classifications. The Apple TV is not a television network and the UK iTV is not computer hardware, so I don't see the conflict. If there was a stink, Apple can just call it AppleTV in the UK and iTV everywhere else, or just not sell it in the UK - would serve the bloody limeys right.

ITV is worried about the negative impact to its brand from being associated with Apple? That's backwards, surely? Worst broadcaster in the country by far.

Since it will be rumored to be the size of an iPhone/iPod, why not just call it iPod TV. Then everyone will wind up calling it the iTV (like people do for iTouch). Apple wins, no lawsuits.

one "insider" at the network worries about possible damage to its reputation should Apple make the name change. A channel insider said: "You only have to look at recent problems with the iPhone 4 to see not everything Apple produces is gold dust. We all take our ITV brand very seriously and we'll do everything in our power to protect it."

Yes, ITV takes it's brand very seriously, indeed...

Let's face it, but "furious" iTV execs mean they want a payoff.

Device hasn't even been announced yet and ITV have their knickers in a twist.

Amusing that they are meeting with lawyers when Apple hasn't actually done anything yet.

Just goes to show any group of idiots can run a broadcast company. And idiots believe anything without research

Calling it a different name isn't going to make it any less of a hobby for Steve Jobs unless they reduce the price or actually going ahead with some of this feature boosting. Keep it Apple TV.

But I agree with others that iTV was never going to work for the UK. Besides, even if allowed, would Apple really want to be associated with the trashiest of the main screen TV channels in the UK?

Anyway, wasn't the reason it originnally changed to Apple TV because of this potential problem? Or is that Apple is now in more of a position to bully its way into the name it really wants?

I'm with ITV on this one. Apple can't name it's products what it wants. They go after anyone that remotely uses a similar name to theirs.

As Apple's tactic with the iPhone and iOS was to just announce it and then deal with the legal issues, perhaps ITV responding to rumours wouldn't be such a bad thing.

Wow, they are mad over a rumor. imagine how mad they will get when it happens. Man, how terrible it must be to be compared to a company that makes a "defective" device and still make enough of them to keep any stock in stores regularly.
