I should have seen this one coming....

I work in a downtown area where I take the bus each morning. As this was my first morning commute with my new iPhone, I tried to figure out the best place to put it. Front pocket wouldn't allow me to sit down and laptop case wouldn't allow me to know if I get a text from the family, so I put it in my back pocket.

I get on the bus and it's standing room only. No big deal. We are about 1-2 minutes to the downtown bus terminal when a kind older gentlemen sitting in the seat beside me says "hey, you might want to turn around". So I quickly turn around and I catch some guy red handed, arm stretched out toward my back pocket. He quickly puts his hand in his jeans pocket like nothing happened. I figured either he was trying to get fresh or grab my 6+ and run off the bus. I hold my hand against my back pocket until we pull in to the terminal. When I get to my office, I notice that the top edge of the gold does stick out of my pocket about 1/4 of an inch...

I'm not sure if I should return the + and get the 4.7 inch or just get bigger pants. If the Apple Watch was out, I would figure just leaving it in my laptop bag would be fine.

Anyone else had anyone try to swipe their phone yet?

Oh man! At least you still have your phone. Though In general I wouldnt recommend putting any phone in your back pocket. The 5S had bend issues when people sat, I wouldnt even want to think what would happen with the 6+.

I don't think it's a very good idea to put it in your back-pocket and sit on it anyway ... if it doesn't get stolen it will bend.

If the front pocket wouldn't allow you to sit down (no wonder why many here are having second thoughts about the 6+!), then you'll need to find a better solution than the back pocket. Perhaps wear a jacket with an easily accessible inside pocket.

I always put my phone in my back pocket so my jeans don't get the dreaded phone ring after months of having it in the front.

Theft is one of my main worries with purchasing a 6 Plus.

You sir need to be more aware. I don't have anything in my back pockets when I go to crowded public places. Waaay to easy to pick pocket, especially since the Plus may stick out of the pocket. Easy to spot and makes you a target.

You didn't want to put in the laptop case because you were concerned about getting a text?

What did you think was going to happen when you put a hot item in your back pocket in a crowded area?

FYI, the phone doesn't actually need to be on you at all times.

That's just screaming "steal me!" To a pickpocket. Put it in your laptop bag when you're riding public transit. Don't make yourself a target.

You're altering your everyday wardrobe for a phone

I found myself doing this the day after my + so I have since returned it and got a 6 and it is much better. The phone suits my life, I am not suiting my phone's life.

Well, what did you expect? You're lucky you weren't in the subways and someone didn't run off with it.

Decency from your fellow human beings is just too much to ask for these days.

Glad to hear you avoided it OP. Safe travels everyone.

I'd say for such a large phone, keeping it in the back pocket is a mistake. Heck, I move my wallet from by back pocket to the front when I'm dealing with large crowds.

That's right. Maybe you have kids, maybe you don't, but when they are 16 and driving to school for the first time, you want to be available at all times, just in case. :)

With that said, great ideas all around, including returning for the 4.7. My only issue is, if I return, I would have to wait at least a week before my 4.7 arrives. I'm not sure how this works exactly with AT&T Next, etc... but I'll look in to it.

I'm sorry but this thread made me laugh out loud.

A brand new iPhone 6+ that is going for a ridiculous amount on the resale market, a phone that many are searching for. And you put it in your back pocket, a fully packed train, thinking that it wouldn't get stolen? All because you were afraid of missing a text from your family in a short ride?

LOL! Sorry...

I've carried the 1, 3G, 4, 4S, 5, 5s and now 6+ in my back pocket and sat on them daily with no bending and I'm a pretty big guy. 240lb 6'2".

I have kids, I get where you are coming from. It is a struggle to let them expereince that "own your own" feeling and still be the "save the day" dad.

here is what i do.

I use a bluetooth head set and keep one ear peice in, and stow the phone in a coat pocket or my bag. Solves both issues.

 I couldn't care less.

Common sense is too much to ask for these days.

Wow, maybe the OP should be cited, the way he/she's being castigated.

And in other news:

Man arrested after getting shot because he was in a bad part of town. "What do you expect?"

Woman arrested after getting sexually assaulted while wearing hot pants and a bikini top. "What do you expect?"

Poster claims not to care but cares enough to post anyway.

I "expect" people to obey the laws. I "know" that not all will. Adequate precautions should be taken, dictated on a case-by-case basis.

Common sense indeed, up to and including victim-blaming I guess.

How about buying mom jeans from now on. Those pockets will eat almost anything!
