I'm looking for the collective meltdown when the price of that gold version is announced. Anyone that knows anything about gold, especially 18k gold, knows that that things is going to be a horrendous price.

Infighting within Apple is what famously set them apart in the past... If they turn into a bunch of yes-men, innovation dies and they follow the path to tech purgatory that Sony has a head-start on.

Bring back Forstall!! Do it... For the children. :p

Yes sure. That's why Maps went so flawlessly and the iPhone/Mac design was getting more simple and the software more complicated.

Isn't it amazing how everyone knows what Steve would and wouldn't have liked.

Ive is one of the greatest designers of all time, hands down. Just because Steve isn't around anymore, doesn't mean a designer suddenly forgets what the hell they're doing. Get a grip.

Ive is a great designer, but to discount Steve's influence on Apple product design is to not know what you are talking about.

Steve would send Jony back to the drawing board (it's documented he did so with the iPhone) if he didn't like what Jony did.

Now that he's not there, we can clearly and objectively look at Apple products "before and after Steve", as it were.

I for one am not happy at all with ANYTHING after Steve. Being a good performer is not the same as being a good leader.

How is this cut off in the corners?

moto-360-review-sg-0.jpg

Obviously you won't get the answer from a single screenshot. See https://forums.macrumors.com/posts/19703849/

I owned the moto 360 for a week, just returned it today
..it was a great watch and all, and while on the watch face or turned off the round display was great, but for everything else having the round display was a drag.

..text would constantly get cut off, buttons in apps would be off the screen and unusable

The square face just works ..i dont see switching to a round face in the future at all

Hilarious how so many "no talents" here are complaining about Ive's work as if they really understood the constraints he was working under.

The guy works for a company with essentially unlimited amounts of money, unlimited number of test models allowed, no time limits, and almost nobody to say no to him.

It doesn't get much less constrained than that.

18k gold plated. The USA always gets crap gold.

I used to come here to read intelligent comments and discussion. Now I just read the article and skip the comments. This place is degrading fast. :(

What does your current watch do?

Shows me the date and time. What else do you want it to do?

The apple watch just shows you notifications. I don't need to spend another $400 to look at my notifications. I can just take out my phone when I want to deal with my messages.

A smart watch can never be a smartphone. A smartphone basically replaces your laptop in many ways. A smart watch will never be a smartphone.

Are you really going to check all your messages, email, documents, answer and make calls from a watch?

Give me a break.

Never say never. In a few years, if Apple a Watch becomes a standalone device, I can easily see it becoming my main device and a small screen or tablet being the companion device. Not unlike my iPhone and iPad combo today. Further out, pico projectors, holographic displays or companion glasses could eliminate the need for a separate display altogether.

Also remember that Siri's capabilities will grow by leaps and bounds, further eliminating the need for a traditional smartphone in many instances.

Exactly. My Walkman does the same thing as the iPod for a fraction of the price. Besides, who listens to a thousand songs in one sitting anyway? :p

That’s the issue with this watch. They made it too difficult. Completely opposite from what iPhones/iOS stand for. He needs to head back to the drawing board with this thing before final product is released. If you need to zoom in on a super small screen when you have a phone in your pocket why not just whip out the bigger phone instead of turning a little dial? A watch should be click and scroll for notifications or action items. When you add zoom it’s a fail. And you got 2 buttons on the side to add more confusion.
Never seen a product that hooked me in for the first minute but completely lost me at the end.

What can a smartwtach do than my smartphone can't?

All a smart watch does is show you notifications. It does nothing really.

You're making a false comparison. Makes no sense.

"What can an iPad do the iPhone can't? It's just a big iPhone."

Capabilities and features aren't the only thing that matters. Like most Apple products, it's about the experience.

How do we know that Steve didn't come up with stuff that was rejected? Remember he didn't want video on iPods, didn't want to bring iPods to Windows, didn't support an App Store for iPhone, didn't support a smaller iPad. He wasn't always right.

So you quote me some unverified thread from an apple fan in macrumors?

Show me a screenshot that shows the moto 360 cutting the text off. Go ahead. I'll wait here.

How about a professional reviewer like engadget? http://www.engadget.com/2014/09/12/moto-360-review/

Additionally, round displays and Android Wear don't always get along. Motorola apparently worked closely with Google to ensure that the UI would play nicely with a round screen, and it succeeded -- for the most part. Text occasionally gets cut off at the corners, especially when scrolling through messages and long lists. Also, the beveled sides make the circular border look a touch jagged at certain angles, especially against a white background.
