That's called "Yourself" you should try using it more , it's amazing what it can do

Yes, I realize I can do it myself. It's just sometimes, I'm preoccupied with other things, like carrying a backpack, holding the leash on my dog, and pulling the phone from the backpack isn't as practical as I'd like it to be.

or...

I'm driving, and don't want to fiddle with the phone; I just want to make the call hands free, and the LTE is having hiccups.

Just curious, what's your point? Is it that Siri is so awesome that we don't need to use it, or Siri is so bad that we shouldn't use it?

Here's the pseudo-code that can be used:

If request can be done without connecting to the Internet, do it, else
Connect to the Internet and find the answer.

EDIT: Saw your "slap" post, and I get it now (greyed out the "what's your point" section). Yeah, for the most part, I do tap the screen and don't belt out, "Play Barry Manilow's Greatest Hits" in the crowd, but when calling my wife, it's most likely when I'm walking to the car from work, and it's a long walk (If you're in Redmond, I work right off of WA-526 at the big blue building, and there's plenty of time to walk and talk), and my hand is usually carrying something, so it's just convenient to press the button on the headset and say, "Siri, call honey-buns" and have her dial my wife up.

We've literally learned nothing new since last February, lol.

Which is why I am so pumped for Tuesday. It's been so long and we haven't seen a single tiny piece of it. Just a little over 2 days left and we will know all about it. I just hope it's a jaw dropping, game changer that will turn the current smart watch market on it's head. Then in another year we can look back and see all the watches before iWatch, and what the competition looks like after iWatch. Then all the lawsuits can begin.

I think I know where you're going with that ....

CLASSY !

Very good compadre' !

Glad you're still here too. I was feeling attacked from all sides by Apple neurosis patients so I took some time off.

Are you going to buy the ....Um , ...iWatch ..(Don't want to get "off topic" if ya know what I mean)

LOL

I hear you, I've been fending of a siege myself and samcraig and Renzatic haven't been around to cover my back! It's good to have a friendly face appear in the nick of time.

I am going to hold judgement on the iWatch until I see it. The rumors have been to the moon and back.

Wow, so useful instead of making proper laptops.

I can buy a real watch from a lot of companies. A Mac I can only buy from Apple.
That sounds like an artificial limitation. You can buy a proper laptop from a lot of companies, but Apple's watch will only be made by Apple.

It's already a pain in the ass doing flexible page layouts for desktops, tablets and iPhones - now we'll have to do one for a watch screen??
Only if you want your app to run on the watch. Many apps won't make sense on a watch screen.

A photo editor on an iWatch? Google Earth? Solitaire?

No. If you don't want your app on the watch, then don't build it to run on the watch. If it's an app that does make sense to bring to the watch, someone else might do it (with their own app) and save you the effort.

I have to say, this is the least expected or surprising news about the iWatch. Of course it will run apps..
;
Agreed...this is looking like an Apple complete solution: software, hardware, Services And Support - I can hear it now from Tim - "Only Apple can do this"

An iWatch-only App Store? It doesn’t make sense to me. Installing an app on the iPhone should automatically display a new widget/app/watch face on the iWatch, not differently from Notification Center widgets in iOS 8.

It is more likely that the iwatch apps with be extensions of iPhone apps. Aka you download an app on your phone and it will prompt you "would you like to install xyz extension on your watch?" It will have minor functions.

Yeah, but to have already seeded some developers with an sdk IS relevant news. I kinda figured they would have an app or 2 to show off, but I didn't think it would've been a 3rd party considering how secretive this device has been.

I am just super psyched for Tuesday. Haven't been this excited since 07!!

I think so too. If the delayed availability is correct, I would’ve assumed just some internally developed apps to show off. Figuring the messages, email, music, general bio data, transaction/NFC are there OOTB (obv. I’m also assuming a lot about the functionality).

So FB and Twitter? Probably some fitness apps like Runkeeper? Some kind of major development from a medical org like Mayo?

Yeah, I’m pretty stoked too.

Life altering problem !

Okay guys,

I'm really stressed about this, what if I could iCloud my iWatch preferances to my coffee maker to send commands to my toaster and make breakfast ...while I'm on the road !

Who's going to eat my breakfast if I'm away ?:(

And what if my iCloud settings get hacked ?

Who's been eating my porridge ?

The proximity sensors won't let that happen. The toaster in the room will be programmed.
Who's going to eat my breakfast if I'm away ?:(
I will when I get back to Everett. It's only 3 hours to Redmond from there. (Seattle traffic joke for those looking at the map)
And what if my iCloud settings get hacked ?
Impossible. Everyone has 2 factor authentication now.
Who's been eating my porridge ?

It could be...

Is it going to be a bracelet, or a quarterback playbook? I really think it's not going to look like a watch.

I would hope Apple would make it look like a watch and not something obnoxious like the Gear S.

What if the iWatch isn't an actual watch at all? It could be a watch band with integrated sensors and screen, maybe? Or a piece that can be added to any watch.

I pity all the people who claim to have read my file. What you don't understand is that this is MR. People here expect posts to have a certain douche factor, and without that your posts won't be well received. Here's the top rated posts on the story before this one-

"Please MacRumors, spend 10 minutes on finding new and better mockups.."
"Every time that mockup is shown, an angel loses it's wings."
"This iWatch mockup looks uglier than a Galaxy Gear..."
etc. etc.

That's pretty much how this forum goes- there are no thoughtful posts that get recognized. When I'm at Ars, I post under my real name and the tone is very different, but you have to match the culture of the site you are at or you just get super frustrated. As you are, apparently, when you read my posts. Have a nice day.

Hah, sadly I agree with you! Ars, & AnandTech are sites with valuable and good comments. Mac rumors, Verge, Engadget, is 90% nonsense people just trying to be comedians. There is a lot of valuable knowledge in the forums though, just not on news discussions.

Developers with SDKs, top fashion editors and bloggers invited to the media event, mobile payment partners signing on; maybe this thing is ready to ship. One can hope.

"Me too" post: I'm with anyone who likes this mock-up honestly. I don't see myself going back to a traditional watch (except for actual real running training, i'll stick with my $40 timex ironman and my known routes).

This armband concept design is definitely more intriguing in a fashion sense, it seems more gender neutral and wayyyy more futuristic than a typical watch design. Maybe an old school watch face (a la ipod nano watch) for those that prefer looking backward into the past and this type of design for futurist types?

Maybe I'm just bummed that I like the design in this picture so much only to click away to see it was just a fan concept. C'mon Tuesday!

(Ed. note: not that I could afford an iWatch/bracelet right now...oy)
