I just wonder how the input interface is designed. I can't imagine having Twitter and FB notification on the wrist and having to pick up, unlock, start the app, and then finally write on my phone.

swipe, press, dictate.....

I'm more excited about this than the new iphone. It's what i'll be focused on during the announcement.

I hope this rendering is what the iWatch ends up looking like. Maybe slightly wider.

Sort of like this?

If it does end up being more of a wristband, I'm eager to see how they make it easily adjustable to a range of wrist sizes.

Yeah, I hope it looks something like that. I dunno why I like the other mockup better, but I def prefer this style to round faces, and other designs that look like traditional watches.

It would make sense given that Apple has been selling the Nike Fuelband in its stores for so long.

Maybe we haven't seen any part leaks because it's being made in the United States. Remember how there wasn't any part leaks of the Mac Pro before it came out.

Edit: and the timing of his visit to the facility in Austin in June to look at "cough" iWatch "cough" models is a conspiracy theory I endorse

Facebook on your wrist?

I think you're right. I think that's why Facebook forced everyone to download the separate messaging app. I think within the new messaging app it allows you to see your messages on your iWatch. Maybe something that couldn't have been achieved through the normal fb messenger?

By the way, this is a total guess. I know nothing. Lol

I didn't even think of that, I just figured that Facebook and a couple of others are sure bets. I think that you made a good guess.

I agree, that design by Todd Hamilton is beautiful. My design was more of a thought experiment of how they might fit a display and battery into a wrist-sized device based on a number of fitness bands I've tried out (yes, I'm a gadget addict.) It probably can't be shaped like a perfect circle if it's going to conform to your wrist and the volume required to contain a battery with enough power for multi-day use is going to be a key limiting factor, hence, it will probably be a bit thicker than a Nike FuelBand.

Mocking up UI concepts made me realize how constraining the narrow vertical layout can be, forcing the type size to be really small in a lot of cases.

I'm most curious about this device since it's probably going to require some really novel UI designs and user interactions. iOS (and the Newton long before it) blew me away with how naturally they worked and I'm sure Apple is going to set the bar again for wearables.

Facebook on your wrist?

Something tells me no. And no to third party apps on the watch. This SDK is probably to add to their device apps to send notifications etc to the wrist.

----------

An iWatch-only App Store? It doesn’t make sense to me. Installing an app on the iPhone should automatically display a new widget/app/watch face on the iWatch, not differently from Notification Center widgets in iOS 8.

Exactly. And this SDK might merely be how to get an app to detect a band and send the info

Two more total guesses of mine. What if that's why apple forced the small caller ID icons on our iPhones with iOS 7,so we would get use to how our "favorites" contacts would show up on the iWatch? So you go to initiate a call from your iWatch by touching your small circular "favorite" picture of the person you want to call. Or when you get a call, that's how it looks on the iWatch?

Last guess.... What if there is no wireless charging, but the "female" end of a lighting port is built into the clasp of the iWatch? But it's totally concealed when the watch is fastened? Like the pic someone posted up above (I'll attached it) I could totally see how one end of the clasp contains a female end of a lighting port. On the other end they could make different sized clasps or different size bands to accommodate wrist sizes?

Again...I know nothing, these are total guesses.

As you can see I have too much time on my hands. Lol

The smaller ID icons being a precursor for iWatch UI is a brilliant insight! I read a rumor that iOS 8 was designed with the iWatch UI in mind and the use of the more compact icons throughout makes sense.

Great idea for the charging port. Similar to how the Nike FuelBand has a male USB connector in the band. I keep reading rumors that wireless charging is a key feature. I surely hope so since having to plug in yet another device every day or so is a pain. I eventually gravitated to the Garmin Vivofit since the battery lasts a year even though the iOS app is terrible.

NFC in a watch could enable payments with your wrist instead of having to get the phone out of your pocket.

And with an NFC device so open to public, this can do a lot. Imagine shaking hands and each user's iWatch exchanges contact information?

Thanks, yeah I was just thinking of things here and there. :D I really really hope they incorporate some type of wireless charging. I'm truly looking forward to that.
I guess I thought the concealed female lighting port could be a easier, inexpensive way for them to do it. Yet still maintaining it to be astehstdiclly pleasing.

I am with you 100%. I do hope it's wireless charging! Plugging it in all the "time" lol...would be a pain.

Great buy on the garmin too!

I like this mock up. And I think you've made a couple more plausible guesses too. Personally I would hope for wireless charging instead of having to plug it in ever night, but who knows? Hopefully we'll have all the info on Tuesday.

This is also a good guess that makes sense.

Ok,

So since it's fitness based and people like listening to music during workouts, it needs to play music, we also know that the headphones will have health sensors right?

So if it's wrist worn those headphones will be Bluetooth right?

Best,
SvK

Best rendering/mockup I've seen! Absolutely beautiful.

I agree, but for a different reason. I think apple will want this to be as sleek and modern looking as possible. I don't think apple likes headphone jacks and charging ports. They would totally prefer Bluetooth over adding a conventional headphone jack to their beautiful looking watch.

I know nothing.... Just a total guess :)

That's a nice concept.

One thing that seems certain, based on what I've seen so far, is that fitting all the stuff that a smart watch needs to be "smart" into a traditional watch is more than a challenge. The round-faced watches look good on their own, but they look comically oversized on an actual wrist. The screen needs to be big enough to provide useful information, and the device needs to be thick to hold the computer, the sensors, and the battery, plus a mechanism for charging the thing. I've no doubt that someone will do that right, eventually, but the tech is not ready yet.

I think Apple's product (or products) will resemble a watch about as much as the iPhone resembled a telephone. The question is, will people want it?

I don't even know if I will want it. I don't wear a watch today. The last one I owned is a titanium watch that my mother gave me as a gift, probably more than a decade ago. Once the battery ran down, I was unable to get the back to come off to replace it. I know I could take it to a jeweler to get that done, but I just put it off and put it off, and there didn't seem to be much point anyway. It also had a visible scratch across the crystal. I made some inquiries about getting that buffed out, but no one gave me an answer that made me feel comfortable. I'm used to bare wrists now.

What use case will Apple make that could make me strap one on again? Maybe I'll find out on Tuesday.

Well it has to be Bluetooth, because the arm swing ing during running, yoga etc would tear out the cable.

my concern is the battery drain that results from Bluetooth.
