I jailbroke my iPhone 3GS with a 3.1.3 firmware and 5.12.01 bootrom. The only downside is that you have to have jailbroken your iPhone previously for it to work. Also I did not save my shh file before I upgraded so that isn't a factor for this jailbreak for the method that I used. If you want to know how to jailbreak your iPhone 3GS with the new bootrom then you have to search kaubut0145 on youtube. He has the videos that walk you through the jailbreaking process.

i was jailbroken previously on 3.1.2 5.11.07 can i do ur method?

This method is well known, if you are currently jailbroken, have old bootrom and can get into recovery mode you can restore to custom restore IPSW.

Nothing new here.

mabey the dev tem are working on jailbreaking the current one, but dont release it till 4.0 is released then release it because if they release it now for 3.1.3, not many people need to upgrade to 3.1.3 ( all it does is fix a few apps crashing and make the battery life % on the 3gs better ) apple may fix it then release 4.0 and the dev team will have to make a whole new one

This guy 100% gets it. Why is this so hard for everyone to understand?

i honestly think that having no way to properly JB the newest and best iPhone is going to hurt its sales

honestly, i doubt it. most everyone who have an iphone dont jailbreak - its only a small amount who do (still in the millions, but definitely not a lot compared to the people who have iphones).

downgrade to 3.1.2 iPhone3GS, 5.12.01 baseband

just came across this in another forum:

As many know, Apple recently released 3.1.3 firmware along with a change in baseband. This has left many believing they are stuck at 3.1.3 with no way to unlock or downgrade, losing their jailbreak. After entirely too much research, I’ve stumbled upon a temporary fix. It is possible to downgrade to 3.1.2 by following these steps. This will work for 5.12.01 baseband and all MC models.

1. Download the latest version of iTunes.
2. Download 2g 3.1.2 firmware. Make sure you select the correct firmware – iPod touch 3.1.2 (7d11) or iPhone 3.1.2 (7d11). THIS IS THE ONLY FIRMWARE ITUNES WILL LET YOU DOWNGRADE TO.

3. Power your device off. Hold home and power for 10 seconds, then release power but CONTINUE holding home for 10 more seconds, putting your device into DFU mode.
4. Open iTunes. Click on your device at the left, and you should see the option to restore. Holding shift, click restore. Select the 3.1.2 2G firmware downloaded above, and let iTunes do the rest (you’ll need to select 2G even for 3G ipod/iphones).

5. Your device can now be jailbroken. The fastest and easiest way to jailbreak is going to blackra1n.com, though this is a tethered jailbreak. If this doesn't work, try RedSn0w 0.9.4, which is what I used.
6. Enjoy!

Note : this is the only working 5.12.01 baseband jailbreaking guide I know of.

can anyone confirm this?

Can't comment on the procedure as a whole (although since it's just describing a DFU restore, I'm skeptical that it's any kind of magical way to bypass Apple's signing requirement for the newest models), but I just want to point out where the author says "blackra1n...is a tethered jailbreak". Blackra1n itself does not perform a tethered jailbreak; this is a function of the device. Any device with a tethered jailbreak using blackra1n is also going to have a tethered jailbreak if redsn0w is used. Conversely, any older device that is capable of an untethered jailbreak will have one even if blackra1n is used.

I'm not sure where this "blackra1n is tethered!" thing comes from.

I had to take my 3GS in to the applestore because the volume rocker was all wonky. They swapped it out for a bright and shiny unjailbreakable model.

I really miss backgrounder. a lot

I'm a new 3GS owner, and have just read this thread. Learned a lot about jailbreaking and the marvels of human faith (and patience). Guess I will settle with my jailbroken 2nd Gen iPod Touch for now... shame (although I suppose it stops me from breaking my pretty 3GS).

I'm enough of a noob that I decided to give this a try (even though it sounded way too straightforward to work). You'll be shocked to know it doesn't work. The failure point is step four, as there is no way to 'select the 3.1.2' firmware--you are thrown by iTunes directly into a 3.1.3 restore with no way to select anything else. On my 3GS, anyway.

Oh well, learning experience for when a working break is released.

I notice the paste doesn't mention 3GS in the first place, so I'm guessing it doesn't refer to these models.

You are entirely wrong. Ever try shift clicking restore on a windfows and apple clicking restore on a mac.. lets u choose.

Here is what I did...

plz someone confirm this and can we use iphone 2g os on iphone 3gs

That didn't work for me. Redsn0w puts my iphone on endless recovery mode and blackra1n can jailbreak my phone but doesn't activate. I did a modified version. Below are my differences:

1) Use 3GS 3.1.2 firmware.
2) I restored twice using the 3.1.2 firmware (first in DFU, then again in recovery mode). You will encounter 1015 error on both times
3) Once I restore a second time, the phone will still be stuck in recovery mode but you can run blackra1n.
4) After blackra1n, my phone was jailbroken but not activated. So I ran pwnage from scratch and everything fell into place after that.

HKY has his 3.1.2 SHSH on file with Saurik. This won't work for you. This is nothing other than the downgrade method using Saurik's server we've all known about for months.
