Nothing is illegal until you get caught. and then you are just paying the penalty for being so stupid as to get caught. a cop once told me that lol

one thing is that if apple knew you jail broke, you void the warrenty. but that is all.

Os

How is jailbreaking possibly 'illegal'? I bought the phone. It's mine. If I want to drop it in a puddle, I can. if I want to unlock the operating system, I can. I paid for it and I can do what I want with it!

All I can say is read the EULA you did not buy the OS just the right to use it.

If you're stupid enough to walk into Apple with a jailbroken iPhone hoping to get it serviced you deserve to have your warranty voided.

Anyway, all you have to do is restore the phone. If you don't, many times the Genius won't void your warranty (strictly from hearsay), since a lot of them jailbreak as well. However, it's best not to test the system.

one bad apple...

we've all heard the pros and cons, so I think it really comes down to personal choice.

I can use my 3G connection on my Macbook Pro. Can you?

I bet this is a really enjoyable experience.

I'm not really interested in JBing, I guess. I haven't run into any limitations of the phone that bothered me enough to consider it.

Breaking an agreement is not illegal. Breaking a law is.

Breaking an agreement just means the contract you have entered into is null & void, and the other party (ie Apple) could in theory seek civil redress against you if they have lost money because of you. But it is still not illegal.

exactly!

I've jailbroken an old ass ipod touch and there was VERY minimal lag with a winterboard theme and the weather and HTC clock on the lockscreen.. Almost none when actually using the thing, and only 1 second of it when I hit the home button to unlock after it's off. On iPhone 3GS it's hardly noticeable unless you go insane with things.

Always do this stuff in moderation.

You want to know what is truly illegal?

Crossing the street without crosswalk is!

I would neither jailbreak nor jaywalk! NO J's!

The problem is that jailbreaking is a gateway crime. It starts when you jailbreak your iphone, then you jailbreak your Ipad, then before you know it your ripping your DVD's you paid for to watch on your iphone and ipad. Then you start really getting bad and loading umbuntu onto your mac via VMware. Then you find yourself on the street doing armed robbery, and before you know it your holding up banks to get money so you can buy hard drugs.

It all starts with jailbreaking, then your on the street homeless with no teeth selling your body!!!

Dont do it, please, oh the humanity

Slippery slope is my favorite fallacy. It applies to everything!

THIS is why I said it's illegal. Just as illegal as downloading unlicensed software and cracking it. Why you guys think it's so funny, I have no clue. If I told you downloading cracked software was illegal, (which it is) you wouldn't rofl and say "Oh no a cop is gonna pull me over and put me in the slammer!" It's the same concept... Catch my drift?

Yes I have the right to "use" it. "USE" has many definitions. Maybe the way I use something is by changing it to suit my needs. Why dont you look up the word 'use" in a law dictionary, there are different ways to define the word. If I buy something and I decide I want to "use" it I can choose how to "use" it, you can not tell me how, you can offer advice on how to use it. But if I purchased it, I have the right to choose how I will "Use" it. as long as I am not duplicating it and reusing it I am within my legal rights. I can do anything I want personaly with my copy of the OS.

Mind filling me in on what you're trying to accomplish here? I mean, you do know where you are, right?

Seems kinda equivalent to running to downtown Chicago and yelling "drugs are a very bad idea, not to mention illegal!".

Instead of getting shot, you're gonna get bombarded by smart-*** remarks.

You're still on this illegal crap? People provided you reasons it's not "illegal," but you seem to have ignored those posts.

He's saving his acknowledgement as topic for his next new post. He has a new topic quota to meet.

op

your entitled to your opinion on JB as am I. I could do a post on why JB is a good idea, but I will let people do there own research and decide for themselves.

also I have said before I personally walked a store with a jb phone was told to do a restore and to come back in a few days. Nobody voided my warranty and Steve Jobs doesn't make harassing phone calls in the middle of the night! yelling JB or you ruined my phone etc.

I could careless if people want to jailbreak their phones. My buddy next door has his and his wife's done while mine isn't and as he says to each his own. It all depends on what you are using it for.
