Alright geniuses. Now that you've divulged your great linguistic abilities, why don't you provide a brief translation!

Very brief: "PC is for business use. Macs are for personal use. But no, really the Mac can do both"

This ad appears to be aimed at the business guy, telling him he can use a Mac too. Not like the US ads where they simply make fun of the un-cool PC.

My wife grew up in Tokyo and Japanese is her native language. She thinks the ad is funny. It's a cultural thing, the same ad when translated would seem odd, not funny here in the US. I think this explains why you don't dub over a translation of a US ad.

I only saw one ad

But for not doing much Japanese (actually none), I kinda followed along quite well. :D Kinda cool seeing the ads in another language.

Just wondering how Japan perceives Apple as a company - if anyone knows. I know they don't like Microsoft (as in Xbox). I can't imagine they sell many Apple computers over there. Ipods a different story?

To be fair, Justin Long's name was known before the Apple ads. As well as John Hodgman's. Justin for Dodgeball, and John for his stints on the Daily Show.

Those two actor's names are only known in America, I'm sure Japanese have never heard of them (and probably don't care much either), Australians wouldn't know who they are.

Ha! That guy totally calls it "iRife"!! I rewound it several times to be sure : )

That's because there is no "L" sound in Japanese, and the "R" sound is what comes closest to the English "L" sound.

Is there something funny about that?

Much like how Apple is viewed in North America. Design-minded users love Macs, those that are more "office"-minded dislike them. I'm generalizing, of course, but I believe that sums it up fairly accurately.

Yes, there is.

You got a problem wit' that?

Why does everyone get so sensitive whenever someone points out a difference in race, culture, etc? It's not like someone said "That <insert racial slur here> can't even say iLife right! What a retard!" Everyone wants to be different and unique, but no one can handle their differences pointed out in a humorous way.

Yes, it is funny when a Japanese person tries to make the "L" sound and it comes out sounding like an "R", just as it would be equally funny for me to completely bork the Japanese language while attempting to speak it.

Like freeny said, lighten up. We're laughing with you, unless you can't laugh at yourself, then you're just getting laughed at.

Yeah, because I didn't think the stereotyped Japanese pronounciation was accurate, but there it is : )

I'm not sure why you guys think the ads are more amusing simply because they're in a foreign language  Not everyone in the world speaks english.

I'm sure Boutros-Boutros-Boutros Ghali can tell us which is the funniest language :D

/Booyakasha!

The PC guy seems happier than the Mac guy. Are they sure they want to advertise that?

They should have blown the budget and got Beat Takeshi or Sunny Chiba as the PC and later Chiaki Kuriyama could come in as the girl.
And then Godzilla somehow.
Damn I love Japanese cinema.

Mac

- Nice to meet you, I'm a PC (Personal Computer).

- Nice to meet you, I'm a Mac.

- Eh? You're also a PC.

- Yeah, but everybody calls me Mac.

- Is there anything to distinguish you from your friends? (Other computers)

- Everyone can use me privately in their home, so I'm very friendly.

I see, since I do pretty much all business stuff, is there a name for me?

Your association is mainly with work, how about we call you "Work."

。。 Mac and Work... Mac!
