What about...
  • Proximity detention (zooming screen to help with pressing small GUI elements)
  • Eye tracking (auto scrolling/panning of large documents)

Ok, so we all know it's going to be more expensive than we hope or expect (but that we will still open up our wallets and in time learn to accept and realise the genius of Apple's new product start points).

We also know not to get too excited just yet:

1) while it will undoubtedly wipe the floor from other tablet devices, it can never be as good as we all hope it is

2) it's unlikely to come out until the Summer.

Still - I'm hoping it's going to be fantastic - but I doubt I'll be able to get one just yet. 2nd gen has my name on it!

Oh - and the proximity gestures (if they could work) sounds intriguing!!!!

ok, a couple questions of concern: Would people be really happy with an oversized iPod touch running the OS w/a remarkable processor (i wouldn't be too excited)? and, Do you think there's a possibility it could be a more hybrid cross between the mac osx and ipod/iphone OS (in that case, if circumstances are right, i'm sold)?

there's something about this tablet/netbook going on here that implies it should replace 'something' and not just add another device to your long lists of devices. Ask yourself: Replace what? definitely NOT your ipod/iphone or your imac. Now, what i think it will replace, is laptops in general. Yes, even their macbook but most importantly, other competitors laptops AND netbooks for that matter. This will excuse the macbook (or our usual mobile computing devices, save the iphone/ipod) from being dragged to unnecessary places for use.

Now, what they're going to do with the product in terms of OS, services, connectivity between devices is beyond me. But, i do have faith in apple that they always reinvent a product ahead of the game just as they have done with mac os and iphone OS. Everyone seems to be treading their heels with each new product. Expect something to surpass the game, for sure!

Consumer: "How can it do that ???":eek::eek:

Steve Jobs "It just knows what you are thinking. Don't ask. It's patented technology that we can't share."

SJ whispering "and it uploads your every thought to the Apple servers"

Consumer "What?"

SJ: "You heard that?"

Consumer "No, that's why I'm asking."

SJ: "oh, nothing important."

It will have a slide out keyboard

It will have a slide out keyboard.... As it will not be expected this will be the surprise!

New Tablet is amazing

I understand it can perform liver transplants with a simple push of an icon. Jobs SHOULD be happy~

I really don't see how a tablet can actually be useful. I suppose it's just going to be another Apple gadget that fanboys are going to buy because it's made by Apple.

I guess it's going to be like the iPhone, a thing to show off useless apps (games) with.

The only good thing about such a tablet is that Apple will probably earn a lot of money with it, which they will hopefully use to work on Macs and Mac OS X, rather than Yet-Another-Useless-Apple-Gadget™.

I will be purchasing the smaller version to place into my car. I have thought about doing the Mac mini in the car, but on every custom install I have seen, people use 3rd party crappy, LCD screens where the screen resolution on the mac mini is "forced" to fit the wide screen, so things are "stretched out", ie: objects shaped as circles become oval (egg) shaped. I hate that. I'm not one of those people who stretch the images on my wide-screen TV just so they can "fill up" the screen. That is crap. Not to mention, buying all of the separate components is pretty expensive and messy.

Ok, so, yes, I would like to install this in my ride, then sync it w/ iTunes (from bedroom) when parking car in the garage :)

I want:
- Correct, proportional resolution
- Cover flow in my car
- 3G connection to use Navigation
- Not just a touch-screen, but APPLE Multi-touch so that I can easily control things QUICKLY (or "snappy" as you guys say) while driving.

How about you??

I'm pretty sure Apple has already thought about that years ago. I don't think they would waste their time and hard work to come up with something that has already been done. If they are going to release something new, they would be smart enough to make it worth their time and energy, not to mention money. Has to be worth it in the end.

SIX HUNDRED DOLLARS? NO PHYSICAL KEYBOARD? THAT IPHONE IS USELESS.

The way you guys think make me wanna murder little children. No wonder only very very very few people innovate, let alone create something new.

What makes you think it will be just a bigger iPhone? What makes you think it will just be used to show off games? Have you ever thought that this new device might feature some sophisticated apps like iWork Touch and image processors? How about the ability to read newspapers with a subscription service right in the iTunes store? Remember the new iTunes LP, will make sense now, right? Larger device means larger battery, meaning more complex things can be done. There are endless possibilities to what Apple can do with a much larger multi-touch surface.

Think Different: not very many of you do.

Ya, exactly. They aren't going to be working on it for years and spending millions on all this stuff and simply have a "cool" tablet computer. They obviously want to market this thing to the general public. So I think they'll be (again) revolutionizing a new industry.

Or at least I hope so . . .

Wii style airgestures

No way it will have OS X. Think reality low. 7-10 inch iBook with books and magazines. Hopefully OLED screen. Wild guess: Wii Air Gegstures, captured with camera.

The future of reading, really. Books, magazines, newspapers . . . all on your "iBook."

Why is everyone speculating what it's target market is?

It runs App Store apps. Pick a category and leave it at that.

As the strapline goes, "There's an app for that"

I want one so I can play games on a bigger screen. I want one so I can design more useful productivity apps. I want one so I can read emails without having to scroll up and down so much.

And yeah, I probably want one just because it's 'more', and I'm most definitely not alone. This is going to be great fun.
