lol! that's hilarious.

So the rumor is that Apple is going to announce something later this afternoon about it. Let's wait and see what they have to say.

For the record: Bumpers, tape, nail varnish, etc. are not a "solution".

The product should work as sold.

Not in any DIY, fork-over-some-extra-$$$-for-accessories way.

Not only are they not a solutions..... they don't actually work either. I'm sure this will be a software update. The Nexus One had very similar issues when it first came out and it took a couple of software updates to alleviate the problem. I'm not saying that to pick on N1 either, I'm seriously hoping thats all we need is an OTA update or a new baseband update etc.

Is this issue being reported by people who picked the phones up in store yesterday? Or is it mostly people who pre ordered, Maybe the first batch just didnt have coating.

Also, they're still WRONG by saying that. No matter what issues there are - literally no matter what - iPhone is still the best phone out there. No propaganda, and not fanboi crap. It's that good. ...and they're still using a lesser phone.

Have fun.

Don't want to turn this into a flame war. But honestly, have you looked at the specs on the new Droid X?

I don't even know what your posts means. And given that the emails in question were sent to me (I'm the original poster) my point was that he didn't have to reply. He didn't have to say there's no issue. Nor suggest I hold the phone differently. He chose to make those statements.

So for someone (previously in this thread) to say that perhaps he wasn't aware of any situation and that's why he responded to me is silly.

A CEO (granted not probably who responded) would hold off saying anything or perhaps even asking what specifically I meant rather than providing a "solution."

No. Steve Jobs and Apple as a whole are brilliant marketers. They choose their words VERY carefully. Anyone with any PR or Marketing savvy can tell you based on keynotes, press releases, videos exactly how savvy they are. Every move is calculated. So for a response to fly out of his email address like that was deliberate.

Why would Steve Jobs play dumb? Theres an issue with the phone currently. He gave you a work around.

Now, if you don't feel this is adequate, then by all means, walk to the Apple store, return your phone, and use something else. There are millions out there that would take your phone, reception issues included.

Workaround. lol. And who pays our restocking fee?

"doctor - it hurts when i do this.." (raises arm over head)
Doctor: "don't do that."

To not waste my time or bandwidth - feel free to read through my posts in this thread. I'm not going to re-write my thoughts on this or your statement. But don't make assumptions or "direct" me to do anything without knowing my opinion on the matter.

I have personally observed this on my phone and another phone that were picked up at an Apple store yesterday. I have also observed this on a co-worker's phone that was pre-ordered through AT&T Premier and delivered on 6/23.

From the front page, read, then post next time.

"Update: This has been confirmed as an official statement from Apple."

Anyone with a half brain can spoof an email address to make it look like it came fom anyone else. My gosh I can send you a email from President Obama.

So you say, but how was that proven.

Read the front page. Arn logged into my account and examined the emails and header.

Oh - feel free to negate that too. Because similar statements and emails have hit the web in abundance.

Ultimately - I don't care if you believe they are authentic or not. I have them in my inbox. I don't need your acceptance.

It might be the best phone, but...

It's just a bloody shame that in making and receiving calls, it's a capital FAIL.

Maybe you have fun (instead phone calls).

You're right. I, and several other people AND news organizations are lying. You caught us!

Well that CEO you speak of on his own blog needs to wake up to the new social media and tech world we live in. Because if he's publishing something that is available for PUBLIC consumption - it reflects on his company. Don't believe me? Think of all the twitter comments made by people on their accounts which have BLOWN UP in their faces. Blogs/facebook as well.

Unfortunate or not - if you want something private/personal - then put it in a place/lock it down where the general public doesn't have access.

If any CEO - let's say the CEO of Wal-Mart was at bar and speaking very loudly. I don't mean having a private conversation - but speaking loudly so that the whole bar could hear that he hates women. You don't think that the statement he made is legit to go public with?

A public blog - or the sjobs@apple.com email address is no different. Unfortunate (like I said) or not - there are new privacy boundries that need to be considered. And if you're the CEO (and frankly - WHOEVER you are) it's a lesson to be learned the hard way.

I deal with a lot of people in the entertainment industry. And I know very well how private matters/pictures/comments/etc - even when supposedly LOCKED down (let alone on their twitter/website/etc) can blow up.

Do you actually base your purchasing habits on whether or not the CEO is a nice guy? If the CEO of Wal-Mart said he hates women, do you really think that a MAJORITY of women would stop shopping there? I'm sure they would just form their own opinion of him and get over it. So if someone at Apple told you and others that its a "non issue", who cares? It obviously IS an issue if this many people are complaining about it. Steve Jobs and every other CEO can say whatever they want and it wouldn't sway my opinion of their product one way or the other. It takes more than one man to run a company. Complaining about the problem is one thing, but its pointless to complain about the email responses.

I don't hate Apple. I think their products are really great innovations. As far as some of the videos showing holding the iphone in a death grip, that's unrealistic in real life. But there are many more videos/reports showing just normal finger bridging of the antennas causing total signal loss in just a few seconds. Will AT&T and Apple stores have to warn customers about holding the phone during the purchase process? That would be a disasterous PR problem.

I love Apple I am a share holder, but how arrogant is Mr Jobs to tell us how to hold the iphone when he is holding it the same way, I am returning the Iphone 4G rollback OS4 from my 3G
If you are left handed the phone may work for you.

So a co-worker of mine spent 20 minutes on the phone with Apple technical support and after a lot of escalation to managers, etc., they basically said that Apple is preparing a software update soon and hence are not giving out any bumpers as a remedy.

Now I dont know how much faith to put in a Apple care representative but if that is indeed the remedy, I'm sure many will be disappointed. I would guess that they are finding a way to fudge the signal strength meter rather than provide a physical solution or design update. Recall would be insanely expensive.

Huh? How can a phone that doesn't function as a phone or anything else that uses data be "the best phone out there"

I'd say at this point, anything that could make a ****ing phone call is better than an iPhone, even if it is an oversized brick with GPRS and no web browser or touch screen.

Complain? No - I don't think I was REALLY complaining. Sharing and giving my opinion on them, definitely. Complaining? Not really.

And while many might not base their purchase decision on what anyone says, a lot do. One example - there are many businesses the gay community will not support because of the way their business is run and statements made by management.

Your comments above were a response I was giving to someone else who suggested that CEOs who have public facebooks, blogs, etc don't represent their company. Did you read the original post and my reply? My argument was - a CEO is a CEO in and out of the company headquarters. Just like if you're a priest - you shouldn't be seen having sex with a prostitute in a porn theater. Doesn't matter that they aren't "on duty". Public image is public image.

I'm not Giving Apple/Jobs too much credit. I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt. For Christ sakes, the thing just launched a little more that 24hrs ago. I'm not saying anyone should be supporting Apple/Jobs and neither should they be bashing them. Give this thing more than 5 seconds to play out before passing judgement. Thats all I'm saying.
But they knew about it. They've probably known for ages. It's not an "oops" thing they're discovering just now. Unless the engineers who put the phone together were grade schoolers, they would've immediately identified the potential problem with this antenna design, but someone must've told them to build it like this anyway. The so-called bumpers are a pre-emptive strike against this problem (why else did Apple never bother to make cases for iPhones until now?). Steve's email response indicates that he was prepared for this becoming an issue - he did not use wording of someone caught off guard.
