Basically he runs Apple and Timmy is just a figure head.

This makes no sense at all and is a baseless assumption. If Ive would be or is the right one to run Apple, then Steve would have groomed him in stead of Cook. In reality Cook is a brilliant manager, particularly in Supply Chain Management, which is one of the main challenges that Apple faces on a daily basis. The optimized chain that he implemented is partly responsible for the high profitability of Apple. I know many here don't give a crap how profitabel Apple is, but it is not us that keep Cook in his seat, but the majority shareholders and the supervisory board. He is doing a great job.

Lets face the truth guys. Jony Ive is a worse designer without Steve Jobs. If Steve would still around there is NO WAY this would be presented on the stage.

Steve Jobs has been dead for years now. It doesn't matter what he would have done or wanted at this point.

In addition: Steve introduced the Touch Apple Mouse, the hockey puck mouse and many other universally agreed dogs of products.

Alan Dye really is the one to blame for iOS 7. Look at some of his designs from 2009:

This leads me to believe that Jony Ive actually didn't any responsibility for the icon designs.

Found here:http://www.wired.com/2009/11/st_thompson_startups/

Also note that Apple's page says Dye worked on iOS 7, iOS 8 and watchOS. Not OS X. That may explain why OS X didn't get too strictly minimal and kept some of its soul after Yosemite.

Let's get ready. The amount of hatred toward Jonny Ive will be astounding.

I think he really is great at hardware design, maybe the best in the industry. I don't care much for his software design though.
Except you forget. (Deliberately?), What Ive is doing is like a football manager. He takes talent and chooses the best and makes it work well together. If you think that he by his own hand is the best designer you're dreaming.

Hardware and software is exceptionally designed, name one computer company selling products of the quality that Apple sells, and only then post your hateful comments.

"Apple senior executive Jonathan Ive has officially assumed the role of "Chief Design Officer" at Apple effective today, after being promoted from his previous role of "Senior Vice President of Design" nearly six weeks ago."

So in the interim six weeks his official title was "that which shall not be named?" That's some fancy writing, MacRumors.

They called him Prince for that period.

I quite agree.

He may have gone off the boil in recent years without the guiding hand of Father Jobs, but his earlier work was superb.

Let us hope he draws a veil over those antenna bands; not literally, though lol.

Meritocracy should be the only criteria for hiring and promotion. And as far as that statement by Tim Cook... well, it's the sort of crap that you come up when the politically correct gangsters put a gun to your head. Those shakedown artists need to disappear.

Said with aplomb.

More money for more Donuts for Jony?

I did wonder, is this an older phot of him they/we are still using, or have they photoshopped the hell out of it to make him look thin again?

It's a shame he's slobbed out and is now such a bad example to show off the new Apple watch.
If anyone at Apple is screaming to use the Apple watch to monitor their weight it's Jony.

Sad to see where, relaxing too much, too many high calorie, high end luxury business lunches start to affect someones health.

Seeing as he is all about style, design and the aesthetics of things, in a way it's shocking he is letting this happen to himself personally.

I hope he changes his lifestyle before it's too late. He's changed a LOT in this respect over just the past 2 or 3 years.

You can't deny the influence Ive has had on the success of Apple since before 2000. It deserves to be rewarded AND it is normal in any company that someone like this moves up through the ranks. The problem that you and many here have is that you don't like the drawings that he makes. Well, apparently that doesn't stop you and millions of other people on this planet buying more and more devices each year.

So, while you personally might not agree with this appointment, it is entirely logical from a business perspective.

He was laser focus on hardware under Steve Jobs. Now when he oversees hardware, software UI, look & feel of Apple retail stores, product packaging, new campus & more, there is simply not enough time for him to figure out how to make those hideous antenna lines thinner and less visible.

And that is the exact reason for this appointment. He wants and needs more time to devote to design.

In addition we should not assume that he is the only person drawing pictures at Apple and that some of the things that we see on the devices are a compromise between aesthetics and technical requirements.

And to get back to your initial statement about Jobs: with the size that Apple has grown to now, he would have no time to discuss little bands on a phone either. It shows quite an amount of misunderstanding how a business works, when you demand a CEO to curate design decisions and simultanrously criticise the appointment of a design executive to a position where he can devote more time to do exactly that curation of design.

I use to think Steve had assembled a passionate team who cared almost as much as he did about making great products, but that's clearly not the case. It's almost like they couldn't wait to get rid of him so they could scrap of all Apple values and take the company in their own direction. Either that or they're just useless at their jobs. They took a company that had the best software, hardware and UI of the entire industry and they've managed to undo everything within just a few years. Just goes to show you what a difference one person can make.
