A true self driving car wouldn't need the function of a steering wheel, so why not let other forms and functions take its place?

I know it sounds funny on first glance but once you start thinking about it, it actually makes a lot of sense.

Reminds me of programmers who assume their code always receives pristine data.

Jony knows what's up. Jony needs to be rehired as CEDO - Chief Executive Design Officer. Gives him veto authority over the CEO on decisions related to design.

Given Elon's comments of the vision of where Tesla is going over the next decade at the investors meeting some months ago, it's pretty funny all the comments about Ive's design suggestion of no steering wheel being stupid. Because that is exactly the vision of Tesla, they plan to keep removing things from the inside and he specifically mentioned that at some point the steering wheel would be gone. This was a several hour meeting where he had a parade of tech guys discuss in great technical detail why they could evolve to this.

And The Atlantic Monthly just had an feature article in May discussing Ford's choice to hire an interior design guy as CEO and the future trend of self-driving cars.

Far from being stupid, Ives's idea is simply what's coming and going to happen sooner than you think. There are kids being born now, that possibly when in their late teens will never need to get a driver's license and will look at you like you are stupid when you talk about a car needing a steering wheel.

I think the first few generations of self driving cars should have some form human controls. At least from my pov

I know I won't be comfortable without at least an illusion of control.

You don't undo 20+ years as a driver (and worse, backseat driver!!) in one day!

Jony's contributions are legendary, from the central role he played in Apple's revival beginning in the late 90s, through the iPhone and perhaps his most ambitious project, Apple Park, where he has put so much of his energy and care in the past few years.

Ironically, during this time there were very few Mac innovations and refreshes from Apple. This was the time frame Apple was accused of abandoning the Pro customers. Now that the Apple campus is done, we're seeing Pro products again. Coincidence?

It would be so much better if it was on the top of the mouse so I could at least still use it while charging as lets admit it we all will at some point forget to charge our mouse until we need it..

Should have been in front, like a cabled mouse ... cable removable.

IDK about lack of steering wheel. Autonomous vehicles are still pretty far away.
