Something to note: singer Sam Smith's Instagram post of his Apple Watch was "liked" by over 140K people and received 1,600 comments. That's esentially free advertising for Apple.
Sam Smith should send it back for only gettinng the stainless steel. Someone with his following should get the Gold like Katy, Drake and others.

Why can you not understand.........?

The watch does not last for 18 hours on a charge.
It last for 18 hours when you use it in a manner that Apple suggests you do.

Should I perhaps try and sell you a car, that I say will last a month between needing fuel stops, but only if you drive it in a manner and distances I suggest you do?

The watch may last 3 days for someone who never looks at it, or perhaps 3 hours for someone who uses it heavy, perhaps later in the year when REAL apps come out.

18 hours is just a made up concept it's not real.

Cars are already sold with a miles per gallon figure which depends entirely on your driving style and choice of roads. You can trash the MpG figure if you drive like an idiot. Similarly you can burn through a smartwatch battery by using it for things it was not designed... like interacting with it for more than a few seconds at a time.

But MPG figures are arrived at by standard testing - it's a useful comparator rather than something plucked out of the air.

They've broken down how you use it, and reviewers have confirmed that Apple was spot on.

In your example, it would be like saying 'You'll refuel every week, if you drive the car 2 hours a day on your commute to and from work'.

Apple Watch will last 90 time checks and 90 notifications (one of each *every* 12 minutes in an 18 hour day).

PLUS 45 minutes of app use. (Again, that's 2 and a half minutes of app use *every* hour in this phantom day where you're awake for 18 hours.)

All this and a 30 minute workout (with music playback).

This actually isn't bad: And much better than your original comment implied.

When they say App usage. I wonder what that means?
Acting as a dumb terminal screen for an App that the iPhone is powering, or something running on the watch itself?

Also what type of app, something very light thats using minimal computing power to maintain what's on screen, or some future game, that's using 100% of the watch's power to keep the on screen graphics running smooth.

I think this will make a lot of people here happy. They want and applaud an Apple dominated world. The larger Apple gets, the harder it is for anyone else to compete. It won't matter if another company comes up with a good idea, people won't buy it. The Apple marketing machine is far above any other companies. They make good products and they have the brand recognition. IMO, if any other company made this exact same watch there would hardly be any buzz about it. Bands in multiple colors would be a gimmick, etc. etc.

Apple's marketing is better than other companies, but they aren't the only ones who could have pulled this off. Now that Apple have done it, others can see how it's done and copy it if they chose to.

Neither Google nor Samsung, to name two, had the wit to first engage the community of people who really get wearables. The fashion industry has been doing wearables since forever. It is of course a ridiculous industry but it works. Expecting people to wear a creepy, privacy-invading cyborg headset in public places does not work. Expecting people to wear a smartwatch that you're selling as a great way to creepily hit on girls does not work either. Technology only sells clothes to explorers. Apple got that, and it looks like they'll win this round deservedly, but it's hardly world domination. Everyone else will get it too.

I wonder if they have all of those colors patented so they can sue anyone who makes bands in similar colors? :D

Disclaimer: This post was intended to be humorous. Please don't go into cardiac arrest.

I actually had a different thought in mind.

It's some kind of unfortunate to publicly provide all these custom versions of the Apple Watch to fashion celebrities so early. I mean, what is the underlying message behind this? Commonors can only buy the maxed-out Edition watch if they're ambitious to get the maximum classiness. From my point of view the timing behind these promotions is just not right. This is actually not the way to promote a new product. People want to be able to purchase what they see.

Doing this later during the product life cycle might be understandable. Now, were still non of the purchases arrived at the customers, they already read about serveral special editions, they at least at the very moment will not be able to purchase even if they wanted or could afford.

Just a thought...

What are you trying to do here? You suggest the battery isn't enough, then when pointed out that it's enough for what it does, you concoct 'future games' that would drain the battery. Who wants to play a game on a 1 inch screen? How would you control it? Somebody will make watch games in the hope of cashing in, but they won't sell in the long run. The watch is and always should be a terminal to a more powerful machine, whether that be your phone, your Mac or a cloud server.

Have to admit the sheer variety in faces and bands is going to make the Apple Watch extremely easy to personalise, which given the number they're going to sell is probably not a bad thing at all.

Wow. Colored wrist bands. Fanboys will be hyping this as the greatest revolution ever for mankind.

And trolls will be decrying them and/or anyone who likes them. What a simpleton's view of life, thanks for your insight.

I assumed it was native Watch app. I know third-party developers can't build these yet, but the Watch comes with Apple apps which presumably run natively on the Watch?

Cool! In regards to exclusivity, how does MacRumors know this? These bands may just be a sneak peak of what’s to come, or perhaps simply colors they produced during their initial development and have decided to give away.
It’s apparent that Apple has decided to embrace the creative class by having these events, and Apple has always been about creativity. Fashionistas, movie producers, musicians - all creative, and all part of this Apple Watch PR campaign. :)

I'm looking forward to picking up the red band. Am surprised they didn't make it available at launch...

All I am saying is that the battery will only last for this quoted 18 hours, which some are mistakenly using like a guaranteed cast in stone figure, if the device is used in the way apple are telling you they think you should be using it.

Also, they are deliberately blocking developers and holding back what they need to build proper full apps as a temporary measure to not make the battery life look any worse for the time being.

I don't blame apple for doing this and using deliberate tactics to stop the battery life looking bad. But lets just all be aware this is what they are doing.

As for the games from, we have being here saying how dumb the concept of games are on a watch, and they won't sell.

Well, lets see in time shall we?

Why would they.
They got you to buy a watch with one of only about 5 colours, and now, they can show you additional colours they already had make but had kept hidden from customers a few days ago, knowing they can now get another $50 from many of you.

Wow look at all those beautiful band colors in which Cook has deemed to nice for the general public right now. The affluent get to have watch bands to match there skin tone while the rest of us get bright green. If Jobs would have done a watch you better believe he would have had all those band colors available to everyone on launch day.

Looks like everyone's getting an apple watch these days. Except us commoners.

Those 27 likes tho...

You've absolutely hit the nail on the head here.

Apple's strategy was always to offer the very best products, and let everyone buy them. On the day the new iPhone launched, the general public could queue up and own the best phone in the world, and nobody, no matter how rich, could have a better one. This is one of Apple's strongest assets, and the source of fan's fanatical loyalty, but they have thrown it away for the watch.

When I bought my iPhone, it was the best phone money could buy.
When I bought my iPod, it was the best music player money could buy.
When I bought my iPad Air, it was the best tablet money could buy.
When I bought my MacPro, it was the best computer money could buy.

The Watch though... I can't have the best one, and even if I was rich enough, I'm not famous enough to get the 'exclusive' colours.

I have a feeling that in 10 years, the folly of this new strategy will be painfully obvious.

Listen Macrumours if you don't stop doing stories about this stupid watch I swear I'm going to cancel my subscription, I know you'll miss me.

We should be so lucky. There is no way you will leave this site. Where else would you find the attention you so desperately seek by trolling here?

There's really nothing that indicates these "exclusive" colors won't be available later on. It's the Macrumors article that suggests that, but it's not a fact.
Apple may be field testing some options in fashion circles before releasing them to the general public.

Even if you could afford the most expensive one and get the exclusive colours, it wouldn't be the best watch, by miles. And why is this? Because Apple is an electronics company, that is why the iPod, iPhone... were or could be "the best" in their categories. Watches are jewels, and an electronics company lacks a lot of things for being the best watchmaker, jewels seller. That doesn't mean they won't sell a lot, because real jewels are:

-More unknown
-More expensive
-Only appreciated by an elite class

... so they're not intended to be blockbusters. Luxury, high end, and selling millions of units every year, don't mix together, no matter what you can think.

Real high end jewels are not even covered by Vogue and all that stuff, simply because quite no one, in %, of their readers are their targets.

The route Apple has taken in marketing this watch is actually turning me off from wanting to buy one. I think they've gone too far with the whole fashion/celebrity angle. I will feel like a total douche/knob/tool/(insert word of choice) buying one of these. The seemingly "exclusivity" of it, with all the ridiculous fashion events and photos over the last month.... when you get down to it, it's an overpriced piece of electronics...... stop pretending it's so much more Apple. Then there is the "You can only order online" weirdness, which one can only hope is being driven by poor production output and not some intentional strategy. Just a completely strange launch of a new product.

Btw, Milan Design Week is different from Milan Fashion Week (which occurred in February). Milan Design Week is focused around product design, not fashion. And the Salone Del Mobile is actually a furniture fair.

They don't know this. But using the word "exclusive" instead of, say, "new" is better click bait. People see "exclusive" and think 'not for me' and rant about it.

I think the headline of the article has something to do with it...

And how does MR know these are "exclusive"?
