I bought a black sport band in addition to a leather loop blue. I'm not sure these additional colors would have made a difference. If I like one, I will get one as will most, it's only $49 (likely).

What I find interesting is that at a show in Milan they did not feature the Milanese band.

Wow look at all those beautiful band colors in which Cook has deemed to nice for the general public right now. The affluent get to have watch bands to match there skin tone while the rest of us get bright green. If Jobs would have done a watch you better believe he would have had all those band colors available to everyone on launch day.

Man I would buy a watch made by a zombie, that's cool.

I agree with this and this screams Ahrendts is the mastermind behind it, however the marketing behind it is brilliant. Release everything to the masses from day 1 and it loses its novelty factor. Seeing glimpses of random bands is only building the cool factor/demand more and come holiday time you release the hounds. Almost a 2nd launch in some customers eyes.

They're excluding allot of people, both literally and communicatively.

I mean they've worked so hard to make Apple associated with affordability (albeit their prices). Now they throw that away by making gold-colored Macbook, iPhones and actual gold Watches and showcasing new stuff at exclusive design fairs. This is new...

A troll post? No. Only in the mind of a troll could the prospect of more colors be a dirty trick. It's pure nonsense.

********. He explained his reasoning perfectly. I agree. You don't. So don't upvote it ;)

Exactly! Have they forgotten who is CEO? A supply chain expert.

It's almost like Tim Cook said 'I'm bored of a few iPhone options, I need a logistical challenge.'

If Tim Cook spends his time as CEO working on the tasks of his previous position as VP, then Apple is in worse trouble than I thought. In all the hype and gushing over these trivial devices and pieces of colored plastic, has anyone noticed that the music store is dying? iPad sales are declining? The MBP hasn't been updated in two years? AppleTV is a nothing burger? OS X is in its fourth beta release since X.6?

Apple Inc. is a giant gleaming ship with a talented crew, it can go anywhere. Too bad it lacks a captain to set the course.

Back to work guys

Maybe too much time marketing and galavanting around and not enough time fixing a crumbling software infrastructure and addressing the deteriorating overall Apple product experience.

Apple has never been an affordable brand. Never. It has always been one, if not the most expensive tech brand for products in its category. Sometimes deservedly so, sometimes not so much.

No because I enjoy reading about legit TECHNOLOGICAL ADVANCES from Apple, their R&D and the wild speculation of what they may be up to. I do not give a flyin' ***** about new variations on the same plastic crap.

your actions don't match your words..

(though maybe the '****' is something different than i assume? because generally, someone that doesn't give a flyin' **** about watch band variations certainly wouldn't open a thread about watch band variations)

Right... Quoting a recent Bloomberg story about Tim Cook's leadership:

"During the three fiscal years he has run Apple, revenue climbed 69 percent to $183 billion and net income grew 53 percent to $39.5 billion. Sales of iPhones more than doubled to $102 billion. “Apple is just unbelievably killing it,” said Dan Ernst, an analyst at Hudson Square Research in New York. “A good leader like Cook builds a team around him that can do the job.”"

And that happened while he moved the company forward on the social and environmental responsibility front.

.

The Apple Watch is the most useless Apple product in a long while.

Remember when the iPad launched and everyone said its useless, just a big iPod touch, nobody will ever need it? How about we wait a few months after launch to decide its usefulness..

Baloney. They sell buttloads of iPhones, everything else is going to seed. AAPL shares are up because of buybacks and institutions now view the stock as equivalent to a bond. We live in interesting times.

Deteriorating? Besides the hardware itself wearing out, how is the "experience" deteriorating? It's still the best on the market.

Apple has always spent a lot of time and money on marketing, so I still don't see your logic.

I do not disagree that Apple should be focused on improving the experience, but I think that's what they're trying to do with the Watch, whether they succeed or not.

Who says the SS with red band is a "special" version? It could be that he just got it before Apple starts selling it to the public. I guess that's technically special, but in my mind special is something that no one else will be able to buy. At this point I have a hard time believing these new band colors are only for famous people.

Of course there will be a Project Red band. That is just a given and a matter of time.

I don't think Apple will come out with new band colors all that quickly. The watch is giving people enough choices as is. And Apple has generally settled in on four to six colors in lines that allow colors.
But maybe this Fall there be more bands.

I can't tell if this is a cleverly cynical commentary or you're genuinely impressed, but if it's the latter, then it's not Apple that troubles me, but fanboys/girls like you.

It is a little of both. I'm actually not impressed or happy with Apple selling a fashion item instead of utility products. It is partly manipulative and the Edition is catering to the economic elite. I'm just saying that Apple has been accused of selling a fashionable set of computers and phones, but I always thought they were just well designed and very functional. The watch is all those things, but Apple is showing how it sells products as a fashion item. This is what Apple was accused of doing for the last half dozen or so years. And this is completely different than how it marketed the iPhone or iPad.

The Apple that took the world by storm was the unique result of one visionary afforded a unique degree of power and wealth at his disposal. It continues to be fascinating to observe his company since his departure. It is obvious to me that Apple continues to create useful, beautiful technology motivated and in the spirit of Jobs. The problem is that they aren't Jobs and this Apple doesn't have his vision.

The result is what we see today. The products that are nice, but just not the same. Take the 6. The iPhone now comes in two sizes--choice I agree with fwiw--exactly what Jobs didn't want and said wouldn't happen. And the different sizes and colors, the protruding camera, the bland design...it's a nice phone, it's just not one Jobs would have let out the door. Now we have the Apple watch.

The watch is ridiculous in so many ways. It does virtually nothing, and even less than many competing products. Jobs wouldn't have jumped into a whole new category like this unless his device offered real utility, that this watch doesn't. My guess is that it was intended to be revolutionary with GPS, health sensors, and probably connections with augmented reality UI--a product we honestly haven't seen anywhere else. What the Apple watch turned out to be is a pure marketing gimmick. It's a smaller iPod nano they've prettied up.

My guess is that there was pressure to release something new, and they didn't have a big product ready for launch this year, so they went with the best alternative R&D/Jony had been working on...a designer watch that wasn't nearly there yet. Supposedly it's been in the works for two years (which doesn't seem long for an Apple product). Suspiciously, we previously been told Ive was submerged in iOS development for major chunks of this, making me wonder how much focus the watch actually received. At any rate, the two years development didn't come up with anything remotely revolutionary. The watch needs to be tethered to your phone, negating most value, it requires daily charging, it can't be worn at night to monitor sleep (assuming you want to wear it the next day), it won't map your run or act as a better fitness monitor than products already on the market, and on top of all this it's homely.

Facing the reality of the non-revolutionary Apple watch, Apple has decided to do what they can to market it differently. Instead of one awesome product, they're going the Samsung route and offering near limitless choices, with different sizes, materials, bands, and price points. They've decided to only offer early review to a few outlets they could count on to be complimentary, they're getting celebrities to wear them, and they're sticking in fashion/luxury promotions. Regardless of what the fanatics will claim, this simply is a different Apple than we've seen previously. It isn't nearly as cool, it lacks the polish, and the devices themselves aren't that interesting.

I personally like the look of the watch. ( compared to a lot of android watches ). I'm just not paying that much money for something I think will be obsolete in a few years. Not to mention they fool you into thinking that you can just switch these plastic bands out when you really can't. Anyone in their right mind will save their money.

Funny.. Do you any other company on earth where not coming up every time with a revolution is considered a fail ?
I think every other company would love to fail as hard as Apple.
