"After time, however, many customers usually learn to adapt. Google even removed the headphone jack on the Pixel 2 this year."

Forcing your customers to adapt rather than meeting and exceeding their needs is policy that leads to failure. Ive's attitude always strikes me as arrogant.

From my experience, if you ask consumers who followed Apples design choices (in this instance remove headphone jack and buy AirPods) whether they think they need the headphone jack, you'll hear a resounding "no". Even better, they say it's much better now than in the past!

FaceID across the board, probably not just next year but years to come. That's why it baffles me why add TouchID on a MacBook when you know you already have this tech in-house? Why not just wait till it's featured THEN introduce it to all your product line that can be accessed securely via FaceID (iPhone, iPad, MacBook)?

...because you hear people on this forum (for example) moaning day in day out when new MacBooks are going to be released. Don't get me wrong, I like to see new devices, too, but waiting and delaying new MacBooks didn't really make sense in this instance.

Their household appliances are exploding , and if Apple loses Samsung loses. Their mobile phone division is still trying to recoup 8 billion in losses.

And yet they haven't folded and are the most profitable manufacturer on Android. Amazing eh?

None of my Samsung appliances have exploded though and I own a lot of em

You like your square corner content being cutoff by the curves?

Notch iconic? It's been out for 2 weeks

The only time I feel like the borders (rounded corners and notch) don't play well is when I zoom into theatrical widescreen videos (21:9). However, compared to 16:9 screens like on my old iPhone 7, I'm still able to see much more of the content. So, it really doesn't feel like anything is cut off. Rather, it feels like bonus real estate. For all other squared-off content (16:9 video, pictures, etc.) it is not a problem whatsoever, since they still get squared off with beautifully black OLED borders. And yes, in general navigation and usage with scrolling pages and stuff, I absolutely love the screen following the curves of the device. It looks and feels very natural and harmonious.

The notch is iconic. It was shown off months ago at the keynote and has easily been the most talked/argued about element of the X (and probably of any iPhone, ever). Its shape how you quickly identify the X from any other phone, just like the round home button was for all iPhones preceding it, even by looking at just a thumbnail icon.

I'm saying that I don't agree nor disagree, it could be done either way. But considering Apple has used widgets going way, way back you'd expect they'd have leveraged them. Regardless, they absolutely had to have tried them and did not like them.
[doublepost=1510920803][/doublepost]

The point of all of my posts has mainly been about app placement, not widgets. I simply used widgets as an example of "other information" that users may want to see, since options are a good thing. All I want the same control as users have had for decades on their PC's and Mac's where you can move apps and shortcuts anywhere within a pre-determined grid structure. A lot of people I know have pictures of their family, dog, car, etc. set as their home screen wallpaper, and those images look like garbage since app icons cover them. It blows my mind that a user doesn't have the option to place apps where they see fit. The default grid structure from apple isn't ideal for everyone.

And yet Apple is heading up to 1 trillion dollars despite the bevy of naysayers that Tim Cook will drive Apple into the ground. As far as your Samsung appliances you can search yourself for recall information in the us government websites. You are lucky your Samsung appliances haven’t exploded; I have all LG appliances.

Apple PR machine out in full force today. Wonder if the waning sales of the iPhone X are a cause.
nonsense. the X is an amazing selling with off the charts numbers. the notion that it’s not is just hater fantasy narrative.

Stop holding onto these "features" then.
  • Remove the TouchBar on MacBook Pros. Nothing Pro about it.
  • Remove The Notch™ on phones.
  • Remove the lack of Retina on the MacBook Air and bring it back with thinner bezels to replace the MacBook One entirely.
  • Remove the new "thin" keyboard.
  • Remove the insecure-of-itself oversized trackpads.
  • Remove the lack of MagSafe.
  • Remove the lack of iPad Mini, Mac Mini, and Mac Pro updates.
  • Remove the Mac Pro being a trashcan and give us something upgradable.
  • Remove 16 GB RAM limits.
  • Remove Tim Cook's politics.
  • Remove Beats and all the execs who came along with it.

If you looked t the link you would see what I mean. Samsung is far to diverse to fail as a company. A division could take a hit. The company itself? No.
Well the same applies to Apple. If sales went to zero tomorrow, Apple could still be in business for 10+ years. However while highly unlikely either company would fail, it’s not outstanding any realm of possiblility a catastrophe could befall Samsung and they could be out of business.

iPad mini 4 in the lineup is probably to get rid of the rest of the stock. Someone who has a Plus or X probably wouldn’t want the mini.

That doesn't make any sense. You could just as easily say someone who has the iPhone 4.7" probably wouldn't want the Plus. Someone who has a 21" display probably wouldn't want a 24" display. Someone who has a 5 seat SUV probably wouldn't want an 8 seat SUV. All statements are equally devoid of reason.

I interpreted his statement as in: wanting to purchase with their money, given that they already have a large phone. Or is that incorrect?

Yes and no. Apple would survive for a while based on cash reserves and licensing.
Samsung on the other hand is too diverse.
Products: Apparel, chemicals, consumer electronics, electronic components, medical equipment, semiconductors, solid state drives, DRAM, ships, telecommunications equipment, home appliances
Services: Advertising, construction, entertainment, financial services, hospitality, information and communications technology, medical and health care services, retail, shipbuilding

Samsung has a global diversity that Apple cannot match.

Being diverse does not guarantee catastrophe. is it possible for Apple or Samsung or both to go out of business; the answer is yes. Probable? No.

It’s kind of complicated. You’re not turning off WiFi, your disconnecting from the access point. When the blue icon goes grey, the text at the top says “disconnected from blah blah”.

It will probably take 4 or 5 years for people to understand this, but then they’ll probably stop complaining about it.

sorry. i understand. but its not what want. its silly. not this way. wrong way. apple should perhaps implement force touch for different states.

It's certainly worked for Apple in the past.

Removed floppy from the original iMac in 1998. People claimed it'd kill it but it was the product that brought Apple back from the brink of failure.

Put USB on iMac. People claimed it was a horridly stupid move but it ended up being the catalyst for the entire market that later moved to USB, thanks largely to the popularity of the iMac which drove peripheral makers to adopt USB.

Removed DVD-ROM from laptops and desktops. Again people claimed it'd kill them and again it worked just fine.

Removed headphone jack. People went crazy but over a year later it seems nearly everyone is perfectly fine with it and most haven't been impacted by the lack of a headphone jack.
Exactly. Apple does what they do... because they can.

They're marketing research has determined how many (if any) customers will defect given any particular design change. They make a calculated risk based on that and move on.

I don't agree that the "popularity" of the iMac drove adoption of USB. iMacs weren't a significant percentage of sales or install base to cause such a shift. There were/are many other technologies that Apple adopted with a larger install base of devices that the rest of the industry ignored (for one reason or another).

I actually like the new way, because usually I’m just wanting to disconnect from a slow access point, I’d rather use LTE for the moment. The old way, I’d have to remember to turn WiFi back on.

But I agree about your idea about using 3D Touch to access the on/off states, that would be a good feature to add to an upcoming version of iOS.

'nearly edge to edge'

Pretty funny. Other manufacturers have been making phones with edge-to-edge displays for years, yet Apple gets respect for almost getting there.
Well yes they do. We’re not talking
I interpreted his statement as in: wanting to purchase with their money, given that they already have a large phone. Or is that incorrect?
Not incorrect at all. Look at their lineup now. Why refresh a product that isn’t selling as much? The mini had never sold in droves like it’s bigger brother. Same goes with the iPod Touch.

Let's see. Hypothetically, let's iPhone sales went to 0. What's Apple's fall back?
