You missed the part where the license wasn't transferrable. WHOOPS ;)

Qualcomm couldn't transfer its license to Apple. However, they could certainly sell a chip made with that licensed patent to Apple or any other customer. Otherwise, that license would be worthless to Qualcomm. The point is that you can collect a license fee only once for the same device.

Apple is giving their money to "the world's worst copy cats." So I think it's ok.

You buying Apple products is giving money to Samsung.

When will these types of hypocritical comments end? lol

I have no control of Apple deciding to use Samsung components in their products. If I were them I wouldn't, but my guess is a lot of these supply contracts were in place before Samsung made a phone and a tablet that looked exactly like an Apple product with rounded corners. Also turn them on and even the desktop looks almost the same. At least my RAZR MAXX looks different, is shaped different, and the software looks completely different. Samsung added a layer over Android so it looked exactly like an iPhone.

I do have control of what I purchase and from everything I have seen Samsung copies designs. It isn't limited to phones either. If Whirlpool comes out with a new appliance one year... guess who has a look alike next year? You guessed it Samsung! If LG comes out with a new TV or a new style smart remote... guess who has it next year? Samsung!

It isn't just their mobile phone division that copies. It's the entire corporation. It's your money, buy what you want, but I'd rather not stare at a Samsung logo every time I want to watch TV.

Well clearly you're an Apple hater... you must leave at once and bring all your Apple products to an Apple store and say 1,000 hail marys

I'm packing up my 2 iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, 2 iPad 1, iPod touch and preparing unicorn blood in order to pay ritual and perform a sacrifice at the Apple store.

Life has been a good run.

I have a Samsung refrigerator. Its awesome. I have a Samsung TV. Its awesome. My friend has android phone and its nice too. Samsung copied Apple so bad on the iphone that its silly. Silly! This is obvious. This fact should not be in dispute. Anybody disputing that Samsung copied the Iphone to produce theirs is irrational at best. End of story. Now you can say you believe there should be no patents etc and that is fine. You can say you hate Apple and hope they die, and that is fine. But to say Samsung did not rip off Apple in regards to the phones they produced after the Iphone is idiotic.

Summed it up perfectly.:D

Surely it will be more a case of whether Samsung can come up with a good enough reason for why it should have been allowed after they missed the deadline? Maybe if it was new evidence that had only just become aware of, but something they had been sitting on for years and simply forgot about?

The reason why they missed the deadline does not really matter. Allowing evidence after the deadline does not give Apple enough time to present a proper defense. Some might even use it as a stall tactic just for such reasons.

I did, quite a few people in Steve's life didn't think he was a SOB. You should aspire to 1% of who he was.

Walter Isaacson, hand picked by Jobs to be his official biographer, pulls no punches. He repeatedly describes Jobs as cruel, indifferent, even to his own children, intolerant, judgmental, profane, verbally abusive to others, controlling, prone to humiliate others, often publicly castigating one day, then claiming credit for the same idea himself within a week. He was emotionally labile, often resorting to crying to get his way. He had the hallmarks of a narcissist, he thought he was “special” and was grandiose in his self-view. He used people up.

Sounds like a PERSON I want to aspire to NOT !!!!

FYI I am 10x the person he ever was. Financially NO.

The jury was not stupid to begin with, the judicial system is stupid when it can be used in this way.

The jury did what they can, but I don't believe they did know enough about what they where deciding. And I don't think most people would know anywhere in the US or the rest of the world.

They did what they could, a trial like this should not be allowed to have jury of peers to start with its the system that is stupid not the people.

I assume you spent every day at the trial to review the evidence, as well as speaking to all the jurors to know what they do or dont know... you dope.

Best part is engadget comments. LMFAO.

Just from the constant Android and Google circle jerking I hope Apple and MS straight put them out. I hope WinMO gets the 70% marketshare. Least MS and Apple get the hate unlike the darlings of the world google....for some unknown reason still. I have never seen a company get more praise, ever.

This is total BS. This is what happens when important decisions are left with people who can't tell the difference between their earhole and their @sshole.
We are not talking about inventions. Pinch zoom, bounce back? Icons on the screen? While Samsung's patents cover communication and power savings. Actual technical inventions, not some irrelevant little software feature. It's a shame that patent offices allow obvious things to be patented and abused. Here are some more ideas that Apple might be able to patent:
"The way the user is holding the phone with the right hand"
"Conveying verbal information through sound waves to the mobile device"

Apple can't keep all competition away with lawsuits. The market is won be making a better product and right now Samsung has a better device. Just like RIM and Nokia, Apple can easily lose their lead in the next few years.

Apple won this case. Get over it. Copying someone else's product end to end isn't cool. It was a cut and dry case. Samsung should've just paid for the license like MSFT did.

Ummm, it's not like Apple called 1-800-Lawyer. Most of those lawyers are apple employees, they get paid handsomely, but no where near 300 million.

the 30% or 40% are for the 'no win no fee' lawyers, most respectable lawyers charge by the hour, regardless of the outcome.

The top guys arguing were from a law firm. My guess is that the partners billed out at $1,200/hour. Patent law is highly specialized. Even some of the associates were probably billed out at over $1,000/hour. Apple spent in the 8 figures easily for this case.

Why do you assume a lesser one. They just make it different. Stop showing your blatant bias. I use both phones and in some respects - many things are the same if not better on the Samsung. And I'm not alone - a lot of people I know on here and other boards who use multiple devices say the same thing.

Fine, be different. That's all that Apple engineers are requesting. Stop copying and start innovating on your own. Let's see who comes out on top. Apple engineers are more than up to that type of challenge according to their track record. They just don't want their innovations being "built on" by others without their permission.

Sounds good ... until you're in Apple's shoes ... Samsung went to far, and guess what they lost in court get over it ....

Now, maybe innovation can 'really' begin since Samsung will have to copy less and INNOVATE more ... had they done that, or enter into a licensing agreement like MS did, there never would of been a lawsuit.

I'm very  where some of these posters came from today.

US courts and citizens protecting US interests. Samsung was never likely to get a positive outcome in Apples home territory it would seem.

A disastrous day for consumer choice in the US. Makes me thankful that I live in a nation that doesn't have such a protectionist view. I will have a better choice and indeed the right to choose, as a result of living under a court system that doesn't pander to the $ over common sense.

Will obviously go to appeal so we can expect this to run and run.

You condensed 50 years of a man's life into one paragraph. You have such anger I recommend you go to a Windows or Android website where you will probably feel much better and find people who think like you do.

You missed the part where the license wasn't transferrable. WHOOPS ;)

And you've missed the part where it was transferrable, until Samsung terminated the agreement with Qualcomm solely for the reason that they could then sue Apple over it.

What makes you think you know more than them. You are hearing everything second hand and commenting before you've fully reviewed the evidence and heard the testimony of the individuals involved. Now that really is stupid. Just sayin'.

But - let me ask you this - sincerely. Do you believe that Apple is entitled to 100% of Samsung's profits for the phone for a handful of patents? I don't think so. I'm glad Apple didn't get the 2+ billion they were seeking. They didn't deserve that much. They deserved something. Just not everything.

It's ok to admit you're just being hypocritical. You always have a choice and control. You are choosing to support Samsung by buying Apple products. You can just as easily NOT buy Apple products and stick to your moral high ground. It's cool. Just don't try to move any goalposts to justify it. :)

I assume you spent every day at the trial to review the evidence, as well as speaking to all the jurors to know what they do or dont know... you dope.

No I did not sir, neither did you. But the thing is that I have seen a lot of evidence that samsung have laid forward to show prior works on everything they have been found to violate in this trial, in trials in Germany in trials in south korea.

And they have showed prior works that means that apples patents are invalid

"fuuuuuuuck apple. this is going to set smartphones back 5 years"

This is where all crappy android would have been without apple anyway...
stupid engadget users l0l
