Altough I love Samsung products, Im glad this happened, its ridiculous the way the PC industry copys Apple products design and functionality

But - let me ask you this - sincerely. Do you believe that Apple is entitled to 100% of Samsung's profits for the phone for a handful of patents? I don't think so. I'm glad Apple didn't get the 2+ billion they were seeking. They didn't deserve that much. They deserved something. Just not everything.

They didn't get everything, only 1 billion friggin dollars.

I love how Apple finished up by saying "Stealing isn't right" Like they're innocent of ever stealing ideas

No I did not sir, neither did you. But the thing is that I have seen a lot of evidence that samsung have laid forward to show prior works on everything they have been found to violate in this trial, in trials in Germany in trials in south korea.

And they have showed prior works that means that apples patents are invalid

Oh if didnt read carefully enough... i didnt realize you had been to the trials not only here in the US but in Germany and South Korea.

US courts and citizens protecting US interests. Samsung was never likely to get a positive outcome in Apples home territory it would seem.

A disastrous day for consumer choice in the US. Makes me thankful that I live in a nation that doesn't have such a protectionist view. I will have a better choice and indeed the right to choose, as a result of living under a court system that doesn't pander to the $ over common sense.

Will obviously go to appeal so we can expect this to run and run.

and what country do you live in?

So Samsung didn't copy the iphone huh? Christ where do you people come from? You and your country are the kind that would rather not have the cure for cancer if it meant that the company who invented it made a profit.

In the scheme of things - not much of a hit or gain. Samsung will and has changed designs in their current products and moving forward.

The money is secondary to the validation of the patents. Some of which I don't agree with being valid. But that's my .02.

Oh apparently you are a fanboy. Or just mad you live in South Dakota. Who the hell lives there anyways? Cows?

Samsung is the number one TV manufacturer IN THE WORLD. With consistently high reviews.

I love where I live... Beautiful scenery, clean air, open roads, nice people, low taxes, high academic testing rates and last, but not least fast internet and full 4G LTE coverage in my area. Where do you live and how is it better then where I live?

Seriously if you have to resort to trying to belittle me for where I choose to live then you have no debating skills at all. Where I live has nothing to do with this discussion.

Just because someone is number 1 doesn't mean anything. General Motors was the number 1 automaker IN THE WORLD for 50+ years and they even got some high reviews from time to time... where did that get them? Bankruptcy.

It's the law stupid...

I think there are many things wrong with the judicial system.

I think there are many things wrong with the Patent system.

I think I should be able to drive 90 miles an hour. I DONT, because its against the law, and its what we have at the moment until it is changed. Stealing is wrong be it my BMW because you want it, or my IP because you can't / Won't do it yourself.

What makes you think you know more than them. You are hearing everything second hand and commenting before you've fully reviewed the evidence and heard the testimony of the individuals involved. Now that really is stupid. Just sayin'.

Well what makes me think I know more than them, well I do know quite a lot about patent laws. I know that prior works makes a patent invalid, and there are a lot of prior works to every patent that Samsung have been found to violate.

It seams like the jury members did not know enough about patent law, and it was quite a short trial so they did not get all that information in that time either.

"fuuuuuuuck apple. this is going to set smartphones back 5 years"

This is where all crappy android would have been without apple anyway...
I haven't read this entire thread, but did someone actually say this? You are spot on that, without Apple, we would still be stuck with the "choice" of our favourite clunky, keyboard laden phone with miserable internet capabilities and a handful of poorly programmed java apps provided strictly by our cell provider. What a great future we missed out on thanks to Apple.

I disagree. I like a nation that cherishes the right of a jury trial. We all hate being on juries, but in the end, I've found that juries take their responsibilities very seriously.

I don't think this was a case of protectionism at all. Remember, the jury saw only the evidence presented. Samsung's lawyer wasted more than half of his allotted time on cross examination, rather than making his own case. That isn't Apple's fault. Also, I'm guessing the "timeline" proved decisive. It will be interesting to see if any of the jurors speak to the media. The jury's verdict, while decisive, was nuanced. The phones, by and large, infringed, but not the tablets. I think the stark contrast in phones pre- and post-iPhone was very telling. Tablets, not so much. iPad was the first successful tablet, but other designs clearly were very similar.

As for consumer choice, we might actually get more choice than iOS and Android now. Other manufacturers might look at Windows Phone. Heck, Samsung might even release Tizen or Bada phones in the US.

Walter Isaacson, hand picked by Jobs to be his official biographer, pulls no punches. He repeatedly describes Jobs as cruel, indifferent, even to his own children, intolerant, judgmental, profane, verbally abusive to others, controlling, prone to humiliate others, often publicly castigating one day, then claiming credit for the same idea himself within a week. He was emotionally labile, often resorting to crying to get his way. He had the hallmarks of a narcissist, he thought he was “special” and was grandiose in his self-view. He used people up.

Sounds like a PERSON I want to aspire to NOT !!!!

FYI I am 10x the person he ever was. Financially NO.

You talk like you think you know but really you have no clue.

You need to read the eulogy Steve Job's sister wrote ... might just eat your words and choke.

Samsung GUILTY woo hoo :apple::apple::apple:

A VICTORY for ALL Innovators, Designers, Entrepreneurs and Inventors!

Asian knock offs SUCK.

Thank you!.

Probably a much different case. More then likely due to the open nature of Android, a lot of features were probably not covered by patents and even open sourced. Because Google wanted as many phone manufactures as possible to use Android OS in their phones.

As a result it does not necessarily prevent competitors from legitimately using its ideas.

There's an old saying.

Wish in one hand.

Well.......you know the rest ;)

If your an Android fan, give some thanks to Apple.

I'm not saying what I think they deserve or don't. I think its good their is competition. I would hate it if there was no comp for Apple. I'm just saying these people and their retarded "big strike against consumers", "Samsung didn't totally reverse engineer and rip off the Iphone" are just so dumb that it hurts.

I just cant believe these android fans don't thank Apple for coming out with the Iphone. The Iphone created the Androids. Just thank Apple for saving us from clam shells and Blackberrys.
