I'm a happy new owner too!

Love the screen, love my Apple Watch unlocking it, love the touch bar (would like it brighter though).

Not such a fan of the lost magsafe, mainly as it's a bit fiddly plugging things into the tiny ports. I'm worried I'm going to scratch around them.
Need look into a 3rd party magnetic lead (read the Griffin isn't the best built thing).

Do you people live in a diferent parallel candy-made world?

Do you know most of the other laptops in the world doesn't have magsafe? I never dropped one.

It amazes me how people get all crazy because it doesn't has magsafe. Just like the rest of the ****ing world! Get over it.

Dont know about the candy parallel dimension, but in this dimension tech stuff still may be broken if they are dropped down. So, it is quite hard to get over something that has been more practical than the current solution. I have never dropped my macbook (2014) to the floor but my winlaptop (also ipad and iphone) has dropped couple of times to the floor because of the powercord.

And i dont remember living in a candy world when apple introduced magsafe.

Love mine too, the backlash is really strange but to be honest I've seen it for every product launch Apple has. Like when they launched the Apple Watch everyone was calling it useless and saying there was no point since you had to charge it once a day it didn't have GPS or a FaceTime camera. When they launched the iPad Pro people flipped out at how much RAM it had compared to the 12". With the iPhone everyone flipped out about the headphone port. So I really don't know but it seems to me like every time Apple launches anything there is a large group of people that come out of the woodwork to hate on it. I've really never noticed it for other products either. Like if I go on a AV website I don't see people going onto a TV owner thread calling people delusional for liking a product that they bought. That's just not normal. Maybe it's a product of Apple's success? The fact that they do shake things up? Not sure. I have recently switched over to Apple products and I do find it really strange.

It's not new either. Someone posted this in another thread and it almost sounds like Jobs is talking about this product launch:

So this isn't anything new I guess. I also like how Steve wouldn't let the reactions be smoothed over either "people call us crazy." "Or perhaps premature maybe." "No they call us crazy." Then later when he talks about how people will call them nasty names. He's specifically talking about how much vitriol is in the responses. Seems like something he had to deal with a lot from his response.

I agree. Can you tell me why there is such hatred and disdain for it thought? I just did a Google search for 2016 MacBook Pro and it was page after page of hatred...? I am so confused. What exactly is it that people are so disappointed about?

I haven't seen much hatred around.

Yea, but then you have this clip of him, where he seems to be talking about exactly what's WRONG with apple these days:

So, I guess you can interpret the 'prophet' anyway you like :)

So I went ahead and bought one... I ended up buying a second... Enough said? No seriously, I love this thing!!! I do not understand why there is such hate for it.

Seems a lot of the 'hate' comes from people who don't have one. Probably a bit of herd mentality thrown in too.

I don't think any interpretation is needed in the clip I posted. He's talking about this specific topic directly. As to if you think Tim Cook is a great leader thats a completely different topic. Jobs is the one that picked him though so I don't think he'd be too against the idea of Tim Cook leading Apple. I mean if you have definitive proof that Jobs approved of Tim as a leader it's a bit of a stretch to assume the opposite would be true.

That's how peeps roll on the web these days. Good stuff is shot down because the negative always generates more clicks and revenue than the positive. Until that changes you have what you have. However, as a business you have to go by the hard sales numbers. Look at MSFT for instance. They seem to get tons of praise lately but it doesnt mean much in the grand scheme of things at least thus far. Saying MSFT released something terrible or made a mistake isn't news to anyone these days. It's not a trendy thing to say anymore even if its the truth. Trying to take Apple down a notch is the thing to do right now. Apple was the same way until the iPod and iPhone came out and even then they were initially panned.

To buy 1 for yourself and 1 for your partner seems okay to me, but to buy 2 for yourself seems like a waste of money to me...
Why is everyone so concerned with me buying two!?! I bought one for my recording studio and one for personal use if you must know.

Got mine last week, and it's really an impressive computer. Way more powerful than I expected, though I did get the highest 15" processor and the better graphics card.

I like the new ports, they seem more substantial than regular USB, and not really missing the magsafe cable.

The battery really doesn't become a problem until you're really pushing the components, like in high-end gaming. I'm getting 2-2.5 hours per charge for those situations. Everything else, I'm happy with the battery life.

Look, there are educated buyers and then there's everyone else.

The educated buyer knows that we're not seeing huge jumps in processing power in recent years. The reason is that the software is now VERY evolved. Music, film/video and photography have gotten near a maximum of usable resolution.

Let's take photography, because virtually every Mac owner will do "something" with photos. The best pro DSLR cameras are not going to tax a MacBook Pro and the sensors have 3-5 year cycles, which are also not evolving fast because they've reached an optimum size.

So what do camera designers do? They improve other things like color, dynamic range and ergonomics. I have a Nikon D810, D500 and Df and all are capable of virtually the same photo quality with small differences.

That's where we are in the computer age. Smart phones and computers have reached a sensible plateau. So Apple went after other things...screen, keyboard, speakers. It makes perfect sense to the EDUCATED buyer.

The uneducated buy just wants MORE. They can't quantify it or make much sense when asked about it. Look at the (many) threads of haters where I simply asked, "What does this machine do to effect or impact your workflow?" And there would be no answer because there was NO workflow. They just wanted a machine that was 8 times faster that was 3 times cheaper that had ports for every investment in electronics they ever bought.

Apple was brave and they built a machine for the long run. They looked forward, towards the next generation of buyers and educated people who know what they need.

When Apple makes a TINY change there's a backlash. This time they changed almost everything and the backlash is exactly what they expected.

So I will arrogantly state the facts. This too shall pass. And within 24 months almost everyone will be using these new machines. The USB-C ports will be what we all use. The touchbar will be adopted usefully my many apps and also accepted.

A bunch of people will ask, five years from now, why is there such anger at Apple moving the touchbar and splitting the trackpad in two? It works great!

I have spoken.

Because you spent $6-10k on buying back-to-back computers in one day, when the previous you were agonizing on when to buy just one? I really don't understand how you can't see the dilemma in this. It's your money to spend, but to make a post like this so soon to praise Apple just seems so hilarious to me.

Yeah, ok. Glad you got a kick out of it. I bought the second Mac a day later after having spent the day using the first and deciding I loved it. Do you own one?

The only thing I don't like about the new MBP is the giant trackpad. No one was asking for it--it hasn't made anything easier for me, it's only made it harder. If the computer had the same trackpad as the 2015 model, it'd be flawless to me. But oh well.

Though I still think the size of the trackpad was increased to allow for Apple Pencil support and they just couldn't get it finished in time for the "Christmas rush". We might be seeing that in the next MBP update.

You might be on to something there with the Apple Pencil. That's the first thing my buddy said, was oh they made it to work with a stylus...

So I went ahead and bought one... I ended up buying a second... Enough said? No seriously, I love this thing!!! I do not understand why there is such hate for it. Both mine are flawless and beautiful and awesome to use. I am seeing probably around 6-7 hours of battery life. Love the touchpad. Love the screen. Love the keyboard. Don't know what else to say. If Apple is seriously aiming at 10 hours of battery life, maybe they can get there with some more tweaks to the OS. Oh,,, and no GUI glitches at all that I have seen. Assuming there are some legitimate bugs floating around out there, I hope these can be addressed with software and that we aren't going to see some kind of crazy mass recall...? Here's to hoping.

I got myself av 15'' MBP with 2.9Ghz/1TB/Radeon pro 460

I get 10-11 hours of reading and browsing with screen brightness set to medium or two thirds. More than enough for normal use at university.
An interesting thing is that I only got 6-7 hours during the first days of use: I guess this could be due to MacOs indexing files and making the first time machine backup right after first boot. That could explain the wildly inconsistent reports on battery life for this model.

And yeah, the screen is nothing less than fantastic. The keyboard is the best I've ever tried, trackpad second to none, the touchbar an interesting new feature I'm beginning to appreciate more and more.

And It's blazing fast: it flies through MacOs. Windows via Bootcamp is working flawlessly. I didn't expect it to work with more graphics-intensive games, but it does. I've installed Battlefield 1, Battlefield 4, and DooM, and the MBP handles them too, at comfortable framerates.

The only odd quirk I've found so far is that while running Windows and gaming, the input from the power brick don't seem to be enough to power the computer: because the battery gets slowly drained during several hours of gaming, even though the power is connected. Not a practical problem, since I'm usually not gaming for ten hours straight, but nevertheless: shouldn't the power brick be configured to deliver the maximum power output the Mac can use?

Apart from that and the hefty pricetag, I really cant find anything to complain about. I dont understand what all the YouTube-bashing of the MBP has been all about?

Awesome report my friend!

I like the big trackpad, it pretty much eliminates the need for an external mouse, unless you're doing super-detailed work.

the new 2016 MacBook Pro is great for browsing the internet! at least Safari doesn't freeze for so long! - shame about the touch bar - haven't had any need to use it so far... seems kind of redundant like the function keys for anyone who can type without looking at the keyboard

The bashing is easy to understand. This is an expensive machine that performs just as well as computers half the price. Combine that with people were expecting the world with this overdue release and all they can see is missing ports with a high price tag. They do have a point though but that's not the entire picture. People always focus on the negatives over the positives.

This is both the best and most expensive laptop I've owned. Amazing build quality, and beautiful finishes.

I think once devs get onto the Touch Bar that there will be endless uses.

Yet another odd angle for hating on the MBP. Seriously, not sure why people care you bought two. If you like it, you'll like it twice, if it sucks, it'll suck twice. Not really a relevant reason to bash.

The giant trackpad is funny to me. It seems perfectly sized on my 13". Without pencil support currently, it's just funny looking on the 15". It's ginormous! One thing I did notice is that you can sign pdf's in Preview on the trackpad. If you got some sort of stylus, a bigger trackpad could be helpful. Another reason to like the Macs. The ability to sign using trackpad or camera is super handy.
