Yet another odd angle for hating on the MBP. Seriously, not sure why people care you bought two. If you like it, you'll like it twice, if it sucks, it'll suck twice. Not really a relevant reason to bash.

The giant trackpad is funny to me. It seems perfectly sized on my 13". Without pencil support currently, it's just funny looking on the 15". It's ginormous! One thing I did notice is that you can sign pdf's in Preview on the trackpad. If you got some sort of stylus, a bigger trackpad could be helpful. Another reason to like the Macs. The ability to sign using trackpad or camera is super handy.
Yeah I think Apple is heading somewhere with the huge trackpad. Foreshadowing.

The bashing is easy to understand. This is an expensive machine that performs just as well as computers half the price. Combine that with people were expecting the world with this overdue release and all they can see is missing ports with a high price tag. They do have a point though but that's not the entire picture. People always focus on the negatives over the positives.

This is both the best and most expensive laptop I've owned. Amazing build quality, and beautiful finishes.

What laptop can touch this machine at even 1000.00? This is obviously superior over my 2015 rMBP, but somehow this is too expensive?
My MacBook Air cost 1549.00 with the 8gb and 256 gb SSD. The 13" tMBP I'm on right now is a LOT more machine for just 250 dollars more. Seems like a bargain!

The only odd quirk I've found so far is that while running Windows and gaming, the input from the power brick don't seem to be enough to power the computer: because the battery gets slowly drained during several hours of gaming, even though the power is connected. Not a practical problem, since I'm usually not gaming for ten hours straight, but nevertheless: shouldn't the power brick be configured to deliver the maximum power output the Mac can use?

It has been ever thus with Apple; they prefer form over function. My 2012 cMBP's battery would slowly drain if I gamed for hours on end. The power brick has a lower output so it fits in a smaller package.

I bought two of the 13" tMBP and my son has my Air, plus his old late 2011 15" MBP (still a solid Machine). My wife is using the 2nd 13" for her job. My 2015 15" rMBP is retired at the moment until I decide to give it away or sell it, but I do want the 15" tMBP, but I would like to wait a cycle before buying it.

For the most part these machines pay or earn their way and it's our money to spend.

Haha. You're not going to win this argument. Although many of us actually see VALUE in this MBP, for most people, it's just a high relative price tag. It's not quite a "bargain" to me, but it's worth it's price. The "comparable" PC's have generally gotten cheaper, although there are some exceptions like Surfacebooks. We can do everything on a PC half the price, just unpleasantly. While we value the experience of doing what we need to, others see specs. These things are expensive, even before this latest iteration. Some of us just think it's worth the premium. If you don't, tons of choices out there.

When have Apple products not carried a premium price tag?

It's great to see some good opinions of the new MacBook Pro 2016 on this forum. What do you make of the Touch Bar and the screen?

I also think that the trackpad was made bigger for a reason, It could be because they plan to make it compatible with the Apple Pencil, Apple do have a couple of patents for this so it's possible they might add support in either IOS 11 or the next MacOS.

I love the Touch Bar, and like I said before I see endless options for devs. The screen is well, stunning!

I got myself av 15'' MBP with 2.9Ghz/1TB/Radeon pro 460

I get 10-11 hours of reading and browsing with screen brightness set to medium or two thirds. More than enough for normal use at university.
An interesting thing is that I only got 6-7 hours during the first days of use: I guess this could be due to MacOs indexing files and making the first time machine backup right after first boot. That could explain the wildly inconsistent reports on battery life for this model.

And yeah, the screen is nothing less than fantastic. The keyboard is the best I've ever tried, trackpad second to none, the touchbar an interesting new feature I'm beginning to appreciate more and more.

And It's blazing fast: it flies through MacOs. Windows via Bootcamp is working flawlessly. I didn't expect it to work with more graphics-intensive games, but it does. I've installed Battlefield 1, Battlefield 4, and DooM, and the MBP handles them too, at comfortable framerates.

The only odd quirk I've found so far is that while running Windows and gaming, the input from the power brick don't seem to be enough to power the computer: because the battery gets slowly drained during several hours of gaming, even though the power is connected. Apart from that and the hefty pricetag, I really cant find anything to complain about. I dont understand what all the YouTube-bashing of the MBP has been all about?

8GB or 16GB?

Do you edit using the Touch Bar? sounds like your really happy with it. I'll have to go into an Apple Store to have a look at these new MacBook Pro's, but do you think the screen on the new MacBook Pro's is better than the retina on the 2012 iMac? I'm trying to gage whether it's worth an upgrade for me, that's why I'm asking these questions.

I think the screen is about on par with the 2015 iMac 5K screen. It has the same P3 gamut and seems to have the same brightness and [lack of] reflectiveness.

Sorry cap, talking about the 15". There are many alternatives with the same or better quad core chips and graphics that are superior to the MBP for half the price of the higher spec'd Macs.

Widows alternatives exist for half the prize of a Mac, yes, but...

But without MacOs. Without the effortless syncing via iCloud. Without iTunes and iBoos. Without the superior power management of MacOs. Without the superior battery time of the MacBooks. Without the stellar build quality of the Macs. Without the superior trackpads. Without the good keyboards.

User experience is a lot more than just megaherz and gigabytes of RAM: I didn't realize that myself until I bought my first Mac. All in all, they are worth the premium prize tag. If they weren't, they wouldn't be the best-selling laptop of 2016. ;-)

The premium price tag is worth it when you think about it, I had my first MacBook in 2011 (MacBook Pro) and it still works today (over 5 years later) all that without needing to manage or do anything other than use the machine. The same goes for my 2012 iMac, a great device that has lasted longer than any cheap Windows machine. I have not had one problem with either of the machines I own, to me that is well worth the premium price tag!!

Yes I believe the screen is better.

Though I still think the size of the trackpad was increased to allow for Apple Pencil support and they just couldn't get it finished in time for the "Christmas rush". We might be seeing that in the next MBP update.
Hate to burst your bubble but they didn't and they never will. The pencil is designed for the iPads and is no different than any of the Wacom drawing tablets. Those tablets are in relative mode while a trackpad and ordinary mouse are in absolute mode. Trackpads and mice cannot be used in relative mode, you'd go screaming mad if they did and you'd do the exact same thing when using a pen in absolute mode. Drawing on an absolute only input device is so annoying that it is just impossible to do. When you compare the trackpad to that of an average Wacom tablet it is still way too small.

The only reason for going bigger with the trackpads on the MBP is the same reason why the Magic Trackpad 2 is bigger than the first (which was a lot bigger than any of the trackpads on the notebooks) and a far more pleasant trackpad to use than any of the notebook ones: 3 and 4-finger gestures. With a much bigger trackpad those 3 and 4 finger gestures are just way easier to do and something like moving a window with 3 fingers is now much less annoying because there is more space (you don't run into the edges that quickly): what used to take 2 or 3 takes can now be done in 1.

The bashing is easy to understand. This is an expensive machine that performs just as well as computers half the price.
And how is that any different from all the other MBP versions? People have always complained about the price: you paid too much for what hardware was given, other OEMs did a better job (they in fact didn't because they simply made different compromises).

Apple is simply the best when it comes to desktops and laptops. Macs can last decades thanks to the ability swap old, broken parts for newer one. They are like automobiles. OSX is the perfect laptop OS while Windows can be better for desktops because gaming is far superior on them.

Mobile devices (in general) is a different story. Their lifespan is shorter but their lust factor (thanks to subsidized contract pricing/cheaper installment plan), OCD-ness, and wanting that WOW factor is far higher. You really can't go wrong with Apple computers. I don't even love Apple with their iOS, walled garden approach, lame fanboys, and greediness, but Macs and OSX are two of my favorite things in the world! Mac4life!

The only component you're ever going to swap in the MBP 2016 is the PCB because everything is soldered on that 1 board.

Just meant to say that swapping has gotten much easier: you just swap 'm out all at once! :p

Not that I care; since Thunderbolt we are seeing that mobile computers are slowly moving into the realm of desktop computers. It allows for a much more modular and flexible design where the user gets to choose what the port does instead of the manufacturer. Now if only Apple would design macOS to use Thunderbolt 3 eGPU solutions...that would make my 13" MBP 2016 even nicer.

Mac's are not really gaming machines, Windows machines are what most people use for that. But I do think the Mac is better for an all round computer. I have to disagree with you on IOS tho, I do think it's good when compared to the likes of Samsung. And I think it's getting better for the iPad, we now have picture in picture and better multitasking. But nothing is perfect and they have made a couple of mistakes. The Mac as been iconic to Apple, especially the iMac. Plus for some reason my iMac 2012 still feels as new as the day I had it, something I can't say about my previous experience with Windows machines, after a couple of years they felt old, clunky, yet the Mac doesn't, it still has that appealing factor, I don't know why.

There are vids showing that the base 15" tMBP will out-render video on those "better" PC's. Anyway, I spent time with a Surface Book and windows 10. Not interested.
