haven't kept up with and don't have time to go through this rather long thread.

which is the best quality for decent price that we've found so far? still the globaldirect ones or an ebay seller? has anyone had first hand experience with any of these ebay ones and can provide a mini review or pics? thanks

So far it looks like none of them are actually OEM/Genuine. They do not come with a flash diffuser. even the GlobalDirect seller. You can either purchase it for 60-70 from China eBay seller or 80-100 from a USA eBay seller.

Globadirect has it for 95 bucks. The cheapest USA seller on eBay has it for 79.95 in Nevada but it says OEM (it's def. not). I recommend paying 5 cents more for the seller in NJ USA as this seller did not write OEM or Genuine and it seems to be more honest.

I also live in NJ so it should arrive very quickly for me hehe.

There black ones with the flash diffuser now, I posted a link a few posts up. I imagine white isn't far behind.

they are OEM and genuine parts. The reason they don't have the flash diffuser is that the white iPhones aren't available yet and these backplates are rejected parts (read on MR about paint whiteness, consistency and light leak -- compare the backplate white tone to say, a magic mouse and you can see it's milk white instead of pure white). Possibly they've halted this batch production just after gluing everything but the diffuser onto the glass.

The one from my post (#252) is oem and is the same as the ones from globaldirect and is cheaper.

this can't explain the Black back plates and the early black back plates without the flash diffuser, which were sold from same sellers

i agree. after all, most of they are coming from china, where counterfeits are all over the place.. i doubt apple would want even the 'bad batch' to be sold off for a profit.

thanks mate

i notice ur in brisbane, i'm in melbourne, which seller did u go with that doesn't have astronomical shipping costs?

I posted am eBay link a few pages earlier. It was the cheapest anywhere on the internet. Trust me I scoured the internet lol. I asked the seller if I can get it a bit cheaper coz I was a uni student HAHA, you know uni students are poor. so I paid a bit less but that's when I paid him directly instead of checking out on eBay. Took about 1 1/2 weeks to come from Singapore.

I got a white glass back (glass only) earlier on and you can tell the difference that it's not genuine. the print quality, font type are not identical. the bottom writing is different too. perhaps some glass only parts would still be genuine nevertheless. But when you compare the one on with the backplate housing to an actual iPhone they're the same (not just the glass, but the looks, part features and materials on the inside as well). really...

it looks like white backs with diffusers have finally hit the market...

I wonder whether those are actually OEM though, despite their "truthful" claims on eBay

I still have one available!!

Make me an offer guys :) This is from global and does not have the diffuser.

Even if these are OEM, I would hold out..just a little longer. When the white iPhone 4 is officially released, I garuantee there will be a sudden plunge in cost for these white backplates. Lets not forget that these backplates cost very little to make, probably no more than $50 dollar (it's just glass!), they are only so expensive because of the demand.

Very true, as global direct is down to 91. However, its 91 for both the white and black, so I'm not sure the white release will cause prices to plunge right away.

Well that makes sense. If the black was considerably cheaper, potential customers would be able to make out that availability is a factor in determing price. Since black is available it is cheaper. They would therefore hold out for the iP4 to be released..

it wont cost more than $5 for Foxconn to make one full backplate, and the fake plastic ones are cost like $0.1 or even less

the truth was revealed today when I compared my white backplate to a friend of mine's iPhone 3GS. Mine looks milky while his looks pure white. This explains the trouble apple's been hitting with the colour and consistency of the paint. oh well. i'll probably get another white plate when they're cheap on the market and have a diffuser glued on.

can't really compare the two coz one is white plastic whereas urs is white glass. of course glass would have a more translucent property to it which would explain the milkiness?

White glass vs white plastic = failed

White glass vs white plastic = failed

Okay... if you have NOT ACTUALLY seen it with your own eyes then you fail. So let's not compare it to the plastic iPhone back. How bout the magic mouse instead. It's still a tint milkier than the magic mouse. AFAIK that's glass.
