Android user here, the iPhone 5 WAS the perfect size, then Android manufacturers had to ruin everything by making phones comically bigger every year. Unfortunately, Apple followed suit, but at least this is a step (back) in the right direction.

The Android manufacturers made them comically bigger because people kept going for those bigger sizes. Android's multi-manufacturer market is the place where small phones would have survived if there had been a sufficient number of buyers - they would have flocked to anyone still making a decent small phone. It seems this did not happen on a sustainable scale: even Sony as the last bigger name holdout eventually withdrew from small phones, and they could really have used some profitable niche. There just aren't enough people who want small phones, and I'm saying that as one of them.

This is amazing. I did the screenshot on my XS. I still have my 2016 SE and it is very interesting to line the SE up next to the screenshot. The 5.4 screen plus what I imagine to be the thin bezel and shell, based on the XS, is very close to the shell size of the SE! Whoa. Almost the same. This is unbelievable. The screen is significantly smaller than the XS. But it's going to be fine for my uses e.g. apps, email, webpages, maps, data projector manuals and other PDFs at work where I turn it sideways even with the XS.

It's a bigger (taller) screen than the iPhone 6/7/8, which many people will be satisfied with. Taller and narrower than I imagined it to be and an issue, if you call it that, will be the notifs and control swipes from the top corners, but not as bad as on the XS.

It gives a similar feeling to when I started looking at my 2016 SE after I received it in the carrier shop. But I always thought there was scope for the SE to be a little bigger than it was, without being too big, or as big as the 6/7/8.

I'm excited! Give me non-Pro, I'm fine with the XR or 11 spec and the price will be a nice bonus.

As someone who uses their phone literally all the time and doesn't currently own a tablet, I've found I prefer a larger size.

You can always write / engrave, stencil or carve “pro” on the phone. That way, strangers won’t know its not the “pro” model. :D

On a serious note, maybe Apple will surprise you and give you 1 “pro” feature.
Currently using the 11 Pro, and I heavily use the camera. Would love a slightly smaller phone, but loosing the triple lens camera would be disappointing for me.

It depends entirely on resolution, for me. The new SE could have been the phone to replace my original SE, but at essentially the same pixel dimensions (other than vertical), it offered very little in increased real estate. So many websites and apps are bordering on unusable on my SE now because they're not properly optimised for the small screen size. If this increases with the new phone, it could be a buy for me.

As much as I’d prefer a smaller phone - the original SE was perfect, but the SE 2020 is too big for the pocket on my running vest - it’s the price of the 12 that’ll doubtless keep it out of my hands. It took me a lot just to be able to afford the SE 2020.

If only it was a triple lens, or a lens with zoom. I use the ultra wide sometimes, but I use zoom daily...

Perfection for some, but too small for most of us, otherwise Apple would still offer predominantly smaller models.

Hopefully, this will finally satisfy the tiny phone people, but I suspect not.

Considering the size of it, I think the SE hold-overs will jump on this.
I don't see how it wouldn't satisfy them, other than having no zoom, and Apple's digital zoom not being as good as Google's.

Same. I loove the size though. I have the 11 Pro Max. Will probably keep a total of 4 years. Maybe by then, if we still use phones in the same way, one will have the zoom I want (at least 5x).

Makes sense if it is your only device. I have an aging iPad that I'm waiting to replace until they put a newer chip in it (hopefully this year), so I use my phone all the time because the iPad is very sluggish and has terrible battery life, but isn't worth replacing the battery at this point.

I'm hoping for a new iPod in this form factor, and much cheaper than the phone version.

I kinda dislike carrying too many devices on me but I think a seperate iPod version in that form as you say would still look good.

Maybe an all screen? As I think Face ID might not be as necessary.

The 5.4” iPhone 12 is physically smaller than the 4.7” iPhone 7 since it’s mostly screen.

Thank you. Helps lot to decide ahead of iphone 12 release. It seems 5.4" iphone will satisfy those constantly complaining give me smaller old iPhone SE. Moreover, for rest of buyers if the price is right than demand will outstrip availability, will be hard to get hands on for few months.
I always wanted edge to edge screen iphone in iPhone 6/7/8 body and now we have it. Apple nailed it.

Judging from most the responses on all threads relating to the new 5.4” iphone, it seems most people here would prefer to have the smallest iPhone possible so long as it didn’t come at the cost of reduced performance/internals. So if apple is taking note here, squeeze your most powerful components into the smallest size possible and don’t give the large form factors a power advantage and you’ll have a guaranteed winner. Seems like most people who will opt for the normal iPhone 12/12max will do so for performance not because of desired form factor. Except perhaps the Max for those who like half an iPad in their pocket

Paid extra for “11 Pro” instead of 11 because it was just small enough to be tolerable. I am extremely jelly of those who have the 12 pinned for their upgrade cycle. Hope they keep the form factor in their lineup for years to come.

My Xr might have to go; I was never very happy with the size (the X size was a much better fit for me IMO).

Surprisingly bigger that what I had imagined. Super excited for this, just wish it had the “pro” features 😩

I held a iPhone 5S today and it was super nostalgic, super excited for a smaller iPhone again.
I know. I would love to buy a 5s as an extra phone.
